Libeled Lady great cast great film (?)
CineMaven replied to TripleHHH's topic in General Discussions
Spencer and Gable might've been swell together, but I think he's a little too heavy handed in the comedy department. This is a fantastic movie. And I enjoyed the re-make too with Van Johson, Esther Williams, Lucille Ball and Keenan Wynn. ("A man can do anything a baboon can do.") I can even see it re-made with George Clooney, Charlize Theron, Eva Mendes... Oh boy, here I go gettin' clobbered again. Love Gable though. Killer smile, and handsome and... -
I'm beginning to think you're psychopathic and Machiavellian!!! Yeech!
-
One of my favorites...Paulette Goddard was a dream. Loved her in the movies! Thank you!!
-
Bargar, that was me. And that's MISS Cinie to you! :-( Psst! ILRM...there are some things better left unsaid.
-
ILRM[/u]: "And CineMaven about the other thread where you mentioned others smarter than you, the reason I think YOU are smart is because you give intelligent input on almost EVERY thread! Others don't do as much as you!" ILRM, Bargar and CC... I will not take the big dive, no one here is chopped liver and I'll sign a truce. Oh and...ILRM, I can be bought by flattery. That's my cup o' tea! ;-)

Annie Hall Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down
CineMaven replied to Moviebuffer12's topic in General Discussions
"ANNIE HALL" was a blueprint for romantic comedies to follow. Great! -
Wow wow weeee! It's like comparing apples and oranges, isn't it.

I just saw "And One Was Beautiful" and was reminded of one of the sweetest smiles in show biz. It would make you melt, and bake cookies, and welll.... he had seven kids in real life, so something must've worked: ROBERT CUMMINGS. Can killer smiles be sweet? Gee had the sweetest smile.
-
I dunno Frank...Jimmy Dean is kind of sensitive in this; crying and whining. It might not be your "cup o' tea." But Cal finally meeting his mother...WHOA!
-
Actually that was me ducking you. And Garbo over-rated? You've thrown down the gauntlet.
-
You get no argument from me, Jake. And SCSU...you made me bust out laughing!
-
I'm glad you took it lz...I wrote out a comment, and then I deleted it. Folks get sensitive when corrected.
-
Jake: "Well, The Godfather speaks for itself..." Tell me man, what's it saying??

I loved 70's movies. I lived in New York City then (and still do) and while I frequented the retro movie houses...I was right there at the Baronet & Coronet, Ziegfeld and Loew's Tower East watching current fare.
-
Poinciana, you find -G-Brando OVER-RATED? Okay, I guess you've made it clear that you do. You're wrong. Dead wrong. He & Monty Clift came up with a different style of acting. More natural, more motivational and coming from within and not cardboard. Monty, Brando & James Dean changed the face of acting. That he became a big tub of lard in his later years has nothing to do with his acting. Okay, that one connected Poinciana. But you NEVER found Brando attractive. Girl, you don't even believe that. You're trying to sell us wooden nickels.

SandyK: Feel free to jump in anytime. I'm feeling like a pizza right now. Tobitz: Whaddya mean, back in love? Didja fall out of love with Gloria? And I agree that another appearance by Grahame (out of uniform*) would've been great. Molo: I apologize. I get defensive about Gloria. I know you love her. It's Jim2 who'd oughta watch his step. I'll look for my notes. *Oh, and out of uniform...I meant it that way.

Pride and Prejudice (1940) A TRUE Romance!
CineMaven replied to butterscotchgreer's topic in Films and Filmmakers
CM: Frank, ButterScotch...will you two ever kiss and make up over this issue of "Pride and Prejudice"??? FG: "Maybe if I actually took the time to watch the film, but I'm trying to keep my "manhood." BSG: "SEE cinie!! this is what i mean! the meanie doesnt know the meaning of the word, "quit". heehee!" CM: "Well...if Israel and Palestine can't get along, what can we expect of two TCM posters. (Where's U Thant, Kofi Annan and Dag Hammerskjold when you need them?) And Frank...your "manhood" will remain intact, if only based on your posts on Novak, Tierney and Double G. Quite manly and spirited posts on that trio of lovelies. BTW, I'm into cooties, so lay 'em on me Frankie boy. -
Miss Goddess: "Yes, he mentioned her mom in To Catch a Thief who I love, but he didn't name her character from North by NorthWest and I think she was so smart to raise her son like she did." Yes. Yes ma'am! Frank: Please let me add one of my favorites in the Monster Mom category: Jo Van Fleet in "EAST OF EDEN."

*JOHNS,* Glynnis....Did a great turn in "The Sundowners." Hey Jim: "Hagen, Jean--Very beautiful, completely under-rated actress. Always played the "best friend" of the star. Bette Davis' pal in "Dark Victory". She did a completely different type in "Singing In The Rain", for which she received an Academy Award nomination. Danny Thomas' wife in "Make Room For Daddy" You're mixing up Hagen with the beautiful Fitzgerald. Geraldine played Davis' best friend in "Dark Victory."

Annie Hall Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down
CineMaven replied to Moviebuffer12's topic in General Discussions
"Annie Hall." Thumbs up...thumbs waaay up. Allen had a run there in the 70's where he and Mel Brooks were untouchable!!! -
I liked how Frankie alluded to her character in the last scene of this movie. And since I thought the whole movie was predictable, I would have bet the farm that Gloria would've walked into that restaurant at the end. I would have been homeless. Damn, wasn't she a spunky spirited thing? "The Outer LImits" episode I wish I could see. Lip no lip (quit bringing it up, Molo). It's Gloria

I must say, Louise Brooks has a very contemporary face, her 20's garb notwithstanding.

Kyle In Hollywood's CENSORED Poster Gallery
CineMaven replied to hlywdkjk's topic in Remembering Kyle in Hollywood
Funny you should mention Posteritati. When I'm in the City Hall area, I pass by the shop, go in and daydream. NYC, of course.
