  1. Miss Goddess, Frankie did mention Jessie Royce Landis on his thread, but you've totally named some beauts. And speaking of "Imitation of Life," let's not leave out both actresses who played the tragic mother / daughter who struggled with racial identity: 1959 -- Juanita Moore / Susan Kohner 1934 -- Louise Beavers / Fredi Washington.* *Fredi Washington literally broke my heart, knowing that this role probably mirrored her bi-racial background, and the struggles she had.
  2. Well...well...I am truly impressed and see I've got a lot of catching up to do. You have many names I want to read about. I think I'll start with Lizabeth.
  3. I've heard of this film and that Fontaine was a hot mess in it. I've got to check this out one day.
  4. I've been watching the movie too. And I think we've seen the last of Gloria in this. But she does start off the movie and boy does she have vim and vinegar and full o' pepper extolling the glories of Brooklyn. And boy does she fill out a uniform too. **
  5. Hmmm...does this beg the question: what actress would you most liiiiiikely have an Oedipal Complex for?
  6. That screen cap of Grace in *"Dial M for Murder"* is so beautiful, perfectly composed by Hitch and tells a story within itself. GREAT!!
  7. Might I add the actor with the greatest head of hair along with his killer smile (no, not Tom Cruise or Dennis Quaid) but someone from a time when men were *MEN*...the dashingly dangerously handsome *STEVE COCHRAN.*
  8. Hi Bargar. Your picks of Anthony Hopkins and Glenn Close were brilliant. Damn, why didn't I think of them!! Who else did you think was narcissistic??
  9. Plug those ears with Cotton, Nando.
  10. *Take us into the workings of your mind, Mongo.* How do you decide who to spotlight? Where do you get the bios from and the photos? How long does it usually take you to create a thread on one of the greats???? Message was edited by: CineMaven: *P.S. Mongo, would it be a huge undertaking for you to list your past SPOTLIGHTS??*
  11. I loved the black widow look of Talia Shire in this movie. I loved the silent scream of Al Pacino's Michael when his daughter is shot. "Daddy??" My God did the chickens come home to roost. The Godfather...quite a family epic. Kudoes Coppola. Kudoes!!
  12. Please, just one question: Wouldn't you say Widmark was psychopathic in "KISS OF DEATH"? He was a pickpocket in "PICK-UP ON SOUTH STREET." Would you reconsider?
  13. The guy was still lucky to sit close to her, hold her in his arms, and have her look deep into his eyes...until the director said cut. What's a little cotton...
  14. Frank, ButterScotch...will you two ever kiss and make up over this issue of "Pride and Prejudice"???
  15. Mickey, Frank, Artie (among others...) how *LUCKY* were they??? I don't believe Ava could take a bad picture. There is something about her...
  16. You've made quite a collection there, Mr. Grimes. Nice. Playing a mom in the movies was most likely thought as to be the death of an actress' career; to be seen as a mother precluded one from being seen as sexually viable. (I mean, who wants to see their mother as sexy, right?) Looking at Jessie Royce Landis brings me to mind of today's tv mom Holland Taylor who has a quip and a martini in her hand while meting out maternal advice. My choice for Mom: I have to go with Donna Reed. She's imbedded in my mind since I was a kid. Yes, Phylicia Rashad looks more like me...and June Cleaver was great too...but I'd have to go with Donna Reed. SCSU...shut yo' mouth!
  17. Triple H...look at the choices that folks put down for Machiavellian and hopefully that will give you an idea of the type of actor that fits the bill.
  18. ccbaxter...I am jealous that I didn't put down your wonderful answers. Good choices. And again...GREAT question, Poinciana.
  19. LOL! ;-) I saw a young man on the "J" train last week (NYC) who looked like a very young Al Pacino. Even sat there like Michael Corleone did in his last shot of "Godfather II." I shamelessly stared...and told him before I disembarked the train, that he looked like Pacino. His response? "Thank you. I've never seen 'Godfather II'. I have to check it out." YIKES!! Youth is wasted on the young.
  20. You bet your bippy that's the amazing Eve Arden.
  21. Dude! Ay yi yi!!! (Though I loved Jamie Lee baaaad!)
  22. Dude, you get the whole enchilada. Good make-up sex. Saaay, was Pacino in "Guys & Dolls"???
  23. Nice, nice Poinciana. Well...my picks would be: Machiavellian: BETTE DAVIS in "The Little Foxes" or JOAN CRAWFORD in "Queen Bee" or GEORGE SANDERS in A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G. Narcissistic: BETTE DAVIS in "Mr. Skeffington" or the beautiful GENE TIERNEY in "Leave Her to Heaven." Beware! Psychopathic: ROBERT MITCHUM in "Cape Fear" or ROBERT RYAN in S-O-M-E-T-H-I-N-G.
  24. I took a peek-a-boo at the site you cited. Actually, it wasn't quite a peek-a-boo...it was more like a gaze...a stare... and a couple of sighs. You certainly know how to raise the blood pressure.
