  1. My...my...my...my! My. Glorious Gloria Grahame. Triple G.
  2. Okay...that's a good start to make amends. We'll add jelly to your bread and water, though you might have a point there in his later work. ;-)
  3. Next time I'm on 14th Street, I'll look and get back to you. Just know this: NO more May's or S.Klein's.
  4. CHARISSE Cyd -- She had the legs of the century. Dancer partnered with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. One of the beauties of the cinema. "Suffered through a manage a trois, complete with a murder scandal." Joan Bennett... not a bad way to be remembered.
  5. One of the pix I have shows her dancing at her wedding...with a woman. She was something, as I'm sure many'd agree.
  6. Those fotos are staggering. Funny, I feel faint... Ow!!
  7. "I think we can conclude that this is a pretty tolerant thread (although, in saying that, I haven't yet made public my belief that Al Pacino is insanely over-rated.....okay! Now I must run for the hills and take cover!)" Come out! Come out, where ever you are!!! Oh there you are Nando...
  8. Lulu is on my computer screen saver. She was intense and had a heck of a life too.
  9. Nando: "That was a wonderfully thoughtful, insightful and sensitive review of this astounding movie..." I am very flattered by your comments and I thank you. But look what I had to work with...a great Bette Davis film. I give all praise to her. I also give a lot of good-natured jabs to folks on this board (and take some good hits in return). But I truly mean no harm. I love movies. I absolutely LOVE and appreciate movies and stars from the "classic" era. Thank you for taking the time to read my comments. The other posters had some well-written words themselves on this thread and I'm sure they thank you for their compliments as well. Uh-oh...and next, "Now, Voyager" on the Essentials tonight. Or that might open up a can o' worms re: McGowan's hosting duties. Take good care... Message was edited by: CineMaven...well I had to get in there that "Now, Voyager" is on tonite.
  10. I loved Ethel Barrymore in "Portrait of Jennie." Soft...and in love.
  11. West 12th & 7th Avenue. I'm sadly reminded everytime I pass there. I was formulating a little treatise on Double G based on her movies recently shown on TCM, but I've misplaced my notes. Yeah, I know some are happy about that.
  12. Grace Kelly's...Princess Diana's... not a movie...but a FAIRY TALE!
  13. Under-Rated: DAN DURYEA Over-Rated: Awwww......do I have to?
  14. http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=117212&start=0&tstart=0 I hope the above can be cut & pasted. Read the whole thread entitled William Wyler's "The Letter" way back in November 2007. Others had comments on the movie as well...so many well-written posts on the TCM Message Board.
  15. I just checked out the Eve Arden interviews (Parts 1 & 2) and I was absolutely and utterly mesmerized by her. She really was one of the greats. Thank you thank you...thank you!
  16. Redriver...did "Party at Horror Beach" have a Black woman as a maid named Eula Belle??? Doctorxx...the rest of us are paying 5cents or a dollar for a movie and you're sneaking in for free?? No wonder Republic went under.
  17. Molo: When I go to Greenwich Village (NYC) I often pass the hospital dear Gloria passed away in. St. Vincent's Hospital. Poor woman. She was one of a kind.
  18. I agree Nando. Just watch any number of Davis' movies of the late 30's and 1940's. She truly was the Queen. Now, I would say: "as for standing there and doing nothing while mesmerizing an audience...that'd be Hedy Lamarr's forte..."but Ava G. will jump down my throat and put down Lamarr. So I won't say that. I wrote a long-**** review of "The Letter" somewhere here on this Message Board, that I was flattered to read was enjoyed by folks. Check that out and see what Bette Davis can do with just a look, a knitting needle and some lace. Sublime. Bette ROCKS! And Virginia Mayo is HOT!
  19. VIOLETS: "Francis, Anne - one of the most beautiful actresses to ever grace the silver screen was in Forbidden Planet and played the maniquin on The Twilight Zone who thought she was alive - her sunny blonde beauty was a wonder to behold..." What a wonderful description of the sultry Anne Francis. Elizabeth Allan was a real looker as well in that "Twilight Zone" episode. Now to continue the game...Zorina, Vera. After Sonja Henie, another ice skating star of the 1940's. Ooops! I skipped some letters. So sue me. ;-)
  20. "DUCK SOUP" Of course. "WHITE CARGO" or "WHITE HEAT"??
  21. Lafitte, keep BOTH eyes out for Gloria. You've got to take ALL of her in!
  22. Look at me, I'm directing...look at my pans, my slo-motions shots. How 'bout I dissolved into a sunset that was really a man bursting into flames. "Sundowners" "A Man for All Seasons" "The Nun's Story" "Okklahoma" "From Here to Eternity" and the iconic: "HIGH NOON." Let's not let Zinneman go unnoticed and un-remembered. He wasn't flashy or showy. He got out of the way and got the story across; like a good director.
  23. No doubt Virginia was one of the hotties of the 1940's and apparently, tells it like it is. LOVED her in "The Best Years of Our Lives" and "White Heat." SHE was the white heat, I'd say. I still love Gary, Grace and Barbara in spite of Ginny's opinions. And Stanwyck's talent was unparalleled.
