I'd like to put my bid in for "China Moon" as a modern noir. After Madeleine Stowe gets finished being the vulnerable vamp with Ed Harris, ugh boy...you can guess what happens.

I'm not in middle school...but I'd sure like to take your class. "Out of the Past" (voice over narration) and a detective who ust chase a damsel (whose stolen some money) might also fit the bill. If I can't take the class, let me know if you want someone to film your murder mystery. I'm your gal.

Are these really good? I had never heard of them before and I like "B" flicks. I know I want to see Janis Carter...I'm becoming a big fan of hers.

Saw a biography of Barbara Eden. She's a total dish. Wow! Nice list. -
Wow...that older picture of Young (with the silver hair) looks great. Her eyes look lavender. Very striking.

Hey man...didn't misquote you. I can't 'cuz this is read far and wide. And whenever "Vertigo" is out there on the big screen again, let me know. We'll go. -
And I'm sure Duane would think he died and went to heaven with all these hip city chicks. FrankGrimes: "Is that heaven or hell? Hmmmmm. I'll have to ponder that one. Okay, I'm done pondering with you. It's heaven. As for those other three "chicks," I'm not so sure. CineMaven is so very lively that I tend to believe she's on the heavenly side. She's pretty honest. MetsGirl can be quite evil at times. In the light of day, she appears to be heavenly, but the second the sun fades away, it's a whole different story. Ohh, I could tell you some tales, but I don't like speaking out of lab. " CineMaven: "Well I'd certainly give Doberman a run for his money...as long as I don't have to go second." Say riddle me this, how do I bold and italicize my comments?

Ann Carter was a beautiful child. I fear I missed her present day interview on TCM re: "Curse of the Cat People." Have I missed it? Alexis Smith was a gorgeous creature. A shame in "The Young Philadelphians" they kind of scoffed at the idea of an older woman with a younger man. She was dreamy. I think Paul Newman would've gotten the better of the deal if the scene had continued. It was interesting to see her in a movie (the title escapes me) with Ann Sheridan. Gorgeous.

Frank...ChipHeartsMovies think "Vertigo" is over-rated. I wish he would read your thesis on the film. It really was a great read. Rhett-loves-Scarlett...Scarlett-loves-Ashley...Ashley loves the "idea" of Scarlett, but the milquetoast really loves Melanie. That's how "Vertigo" is as you suggested. John/Scottie loves the Madeleine that is Judy...NOT the Judy who is Madeleine. He loves the illusion. And maybe that's why I love movies...the illusion of real life or reel life.

The synopsis of Un Chien Andalou sounds like the synopsis to "Saw" "Saw II" "Saw III" and "Saw IV." -
Carolyn / Goddess...lovely descriptions of Robert Ryan. I always thought he was okay, but now I've really become appreciative of him from reading these threads. Ruggedly handsome. A great big boogie man to have on YOUR side. (P.S. Please check out Sidney Lumet's "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead." Off-topic, but the movie is as tough as Robert Ryan). Lame segue...but you won't think so if you see the movie. And that's Ryan when he's a villain.

Content Guy says: "To Jane Greer in Out of the Past and Stanwyck in Double Indemnity, I would add the equally devious and equally seductive Yvonne DeCarlo in Criss Cross. Burt Lancaster, the poor sap, never had a chance." RedRiver says: "Nightmare Alley's psychologist Lilith Ritter (Helen Walker) chills me to the bone, but maybe the role doesn't qualify as a femme fatale in the usual sense. " " I like Stanwyck in "Indemnity." Like Ms. Astor in "Falcon." Gloria Grahame's characters are so complex and intricate it's almost frightening. But the femme to reckon with is Jane Greer in OUT OF THE PAST. She's diabolical and manipulative from start to finish. Even when you think she finally has a heart. That's when she's most dangerous." I say Sharon Stone in "Basic Instinct" the most sexual volatile murderous psychopathic female role in the history of movies. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh 40's & 50's. Then STANWYCK head and shoulders above the rest. But Jane Greer...the sexiest femme fatale/lethal lady of 'em all. Femme fatale...ALL DAY. Let's hear it!! -
Hopefully one out of two ain't bad: Crawford & Diane Baker were crazy mother and daughter in "Strait Jacket."
-
Didn't really care for "Capetown Affair" a questionable remake of "Pick Up on South Street" where Claire did Thelma Ritter's part. BUT I remember Claire coming out in a nightgown when Powell was in her house...her hair was down and messy if I remember right. That clinched her in my soul."Murder, My Sweet."

Not seen "Desert Fury"??? Well get on that woman. Get on that.

Becuz I'M a Star Trek fan...dangerously handsome Ricardo Montalban. Laura Linney or Jodie Foster?

I'm a 1930's and 40's gal myself. But I will keep you in mind when threads take a turn for 50's. By the by...love Kim Novak. She evokes the 1950's for me. (Yeah Marilyn too...but my heart belongs to Kim). Tawk 2 ya soooon. -

Randy...this thread may not get you many takers; too involved, unwieldly. But I'll give it a go. I'm going to go a different route though: A-nn Sheridan, Ann Sothern, Anne Gwynne, Acquanetta, Ann Blythe B-arbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis, Barbara Rush, Beverly Garland C-arole Lombard, Cate Blanchett, Cathy O'Donnell, CineMaven D-onna Reed, Dana Wynter, Deborah Kerr, Doris Day E-lizabeth Taylor, Esther Williams, Eve Arden, Eleanor Parker F-rances Dee, Frances Farmer, Frieda Inescort G-reta Garbo, Gail Russell, Gene Tierney, Greer Garson, Glenn Close H-attie McDaniel, Helen Walker I-ngrid Bergman, Ida Lupino, Irene Dunne J-ean Simmons, Jeanne Crain, Judy Garland, Jean Harlow, Joan Crawford K-atharine Hepburn, Kaaren Verne L-ena Horne, Lucille Ball, Laraine Day, Linda Darnell M-erle Oberon, Mary Astor, Maria Montez, Mala Powers, Meryl Streep, Mary Pickford N-ina Foch, Norma Shearer, Nancy Davis, Natalie Wood O-livia DeHavilland, Osa Massen P-aulette Goddard, Patricia Neal, Patricia Medina, Priscilla Lane Q-ueenie Smith R-ita Hayworth, Rhonda Fleming, Rosalind Russell S-onja Henie, Sharon Stone, Sandy Dennis, Sigourney Weaver T-eresa Wright U-na Munson, Una Merkel V-eronica Lake, Vera Zorina, Valerie Hobson W-anda Hendrix, Wendy Hiller Y-vonne DeCarlo, Yvette Vickers Z-ita Johann, Zohra Lampert Dude, try something easy next time. -
Thistle...Linda...I must revisit "Act of Violence." I did see it once but wasn't quite giving it my full attention. My preference is long hair so I can imagine Astor's looking younger with it than without it. Have you two ever seen "Desert Fury"?? Yes, it has Lancaster, and Hodiak and (the dullest man in the history of cinema:) Wendell Corey. It was great, but there are those ("Mary Mary Quite Contrary") folks that probably have to diss this film too. I'm a big Astor fan.

"This is why I am so glad no one ever replys to my posts, either they don't like me or I just said something that doesn't need being replied to. I am so glad that I don't have to worry about getting in fights like this. Both Vertigo and Psycho are great films to me, it's hard to say which one is better because they are both superb." Kubrickbuff...if nobody talks to you, I'll talk to you and I don't think you're disliked. Did you read FrankGrimes' posting on "Vertigo"? It was a great great read. It's not trying to convince those contrary folks who just don't wanna like the movie; it was a great great read. And again, I second that motion: no 90's on TCM. -
Too bland for you??? Richard Denning or William Lundigan.
