Those fotos are staggering. Funny, I feel faint... Ow!!

"I think we can conclude that this is a pretty tolerant thread (although, in saying that, I haven't yet made public my belief that Al Pacino is insanely over-rated.....okay! Now I must run for the hills and take cover!)"
Come out! Come out, where ever you are!!! Oh there you are Nando...

Lulu is on my computer screen saver. She was intense and had a heck of a life too.

Nando: "That was a wonderfully thoughtful, insightful and sensitive review of this astounding movie..."
I am very flattered by your comments and I thank you. But look what I had to work with...a great Bette Davis film. I give all praise to her. I also give a lot of good-natured jabs to folks on this board (and take some good hits in return). But I truly mean no harm. I love movies.
I absolutely LOVE and appreciate movies and stars from the "classic" era. Thank you for taking the time to read my comments. The other posters had some well-written words themselves on this thread and I'm sure they thank you for their compliments as well.
Uh-oh...and next, "Now, Voyager" on the Essentials tonight. Or that might open up a can o' worms re: McGowan's hosting duties.
Take good care...
Message was edited by: CineMaven...well I had to get in there that "Now, Voyager" is on tonite.

I loved Ethel Barrymore in "Portrait of Jennie." Soft...and in love.

These lines are from "Swing Time." I wasn't quite in the mood to watch Fred & Ginger this morning, but I couldn't switch channels until I heard my favorite exchange between: Victor Moore and the great Helen Broderick. Moore sits at the receptionist's desk (Broderick) when she's about to eat her sandwich. We cut to them:
HB: You know, that's the most marvelous trick I've ever seen a magician do."
VM: You mean the, uh, one with the four aces?
HB: No, the way you made my club sandwich disappear.
VM: Who me? My dear young lady...
HB: You'd better take a club sandwich out of this hat!
VM: Are you accusing me of eating your sandwich?
HB: You might begin by taking that piece of lettuce off your necktie.
I laugh EVERY time! And Broderick's delivery is worthy of Eve Arden or Roz Russell. or Ann Sheridan. Great!

Why'd you throw in Robin? We weren't even talking about Batman? ;-)

West 12th & 7th Avenue. I'm sadly reminded everytime I pass there. I was formulating a little treatise on Double G based on her movies recently shown on TCM, but I've misplaced my notes.
Yeah, I know some are happy about that.

You are sooooo right Ziggy. I apologize for the transposition. Thank you for the correction.
Have you ever seen Landis in "I Wake Up Screaming" or the one where she and her husband switch sexual identities
-
Hello Randy...I understand. Still lovin' Anita Ekberg and can still see her at the fountain in "La Docle Vita."

Well, what I've seen on the FMC schedule are:
Friday 05/09/2008
8:00pm - 3:30am "Gentlemen's Agreement," with one of our most handsome and earnest movie stars: Gregory Peck. A fine performance by the lovely Dorothy McGuire and the wonderful Oscar performance of Celeste Holm.
Saturday 5/10/2008
8:00am - 9:30am "It Happened in Brooklyn," for those Carole Landis fans. Gone too soon.
9:30am - 12:00pm "Carousel" with the booming voice of that handsome baritone, Gordon McRae...and the very pretty Shirley Jones.
12:00pm - 2:00pm "Move Over, Darling" Doris Day...perky as ever; James Garner...a hunk and light comedian if ever there was one, both doing the re-make of the classic "The Awful Truth."
2:00pm - 4:00pm "I Was a Male War Bride" with Cary Grant and Ann Sheridan. I wish I could see them in another movie together. They had nice chemistry.
I hope this was helpful. Enjoy!

Grace Kelly's...Princess Diana's... not a movie...but a FAIRY TALE!

I hope the above can be cut & pasted. Read the whole thread entitled William Wyler's "The Letter" way back in November 2007. Others had comments on the movie as well...so many well-written posts on the TCM Message Board.

I just checked out the Eve Arden interviews (Parts 1 & 2) and I was absolutely and utterly mesmerized by her. She really was one of the greats. Thank you thank you...thank you!
-
Redriver...did "Party at Horror Beach" have a Black woman as a maid named Eula Belle???
Doctorxx...the rest of us are paying 5cents or a dollar for a movie and you're sneaking in for free?? No wonder Republic went under.

Killer legs if you're a leg man. Need a close-up of the face. But very happy she is STILL with us. Miss Jayne, Barbara and Monique (Hey...is Monique Van Vooren still with us?)

Molo: When I go to Greenwich Village (NYC) I often pass the hospital dear Gloria passed away in. St. Vincent's Hospital. Poor woman. She was one of a kind.

Hi Nando: "Oh My God! I had NO IDEA that Mamie Van Doren was still with us! I would have bet my life savings (not much, admittedly!) that she was long gone. How great that she's still with us! Thanks, Cinemaven, for giving 'The Gift of Life' to good ol' Mamie!"
I can't take credit for that gift of life to Mamie Van Doren. I didn't know she was alive. Must've been another --doctor-- uh, poster.

Micketeeze, MaryAnn would never date a cub reporter like geeky Jimmy Olsen.
And SCSU...don't call me Surely.

I agree Nando. Just watch any number of Davis' movies of the late 30's and 1940's. She truly was the Queen.
Now, I would say: "as for standing there and doing nothing while mesmerizing an audience...that'd be Hedy Lamarr's forte..."but Ava G. will jump down my throat and put down Lamarr. So I won't say that. I wrote a long-**** review of "The Letter" somewhere here on this Message Board, that I was flattered to read was enjoyed by folks. Check that out and see what Bette Davis can do with just a look, a knitting needle and some lace.
Sublime. Bette ROCKS! And Virginia Mayo is HOT!

VIOLETS: "Francis, Anne - one of the most beautiful actresses to ever grace the silver screen was in Forbidden Planet and played the maniquin on The Twilight Zone who thought
she was alive - her sunny blonde beauty was a wonder to behold..."
What a wonderful description of the sultry Anne Francis. Elizabeth Allan was a real looker as well in that "Twilight Zone" episode.
Now to continue the game...Zorina, Vera. After Sonja Henie, another ice skating star of the 1940's.
Ooops! I skipped some letters. So sue me. ;-)

Vote for the MOST beautiful actress!

One of the pix I have shows her dancing at her wedding...with a woman.
She was something, as I'm sure many'd agree.
