CineMaven replied to johnm001's topic in General Discussions
Great question. These lovely ladies would be my choices: France: Moreau, Bardot, Stephane Audran Puerto Rico: Rita Moreno South Africa: Charlize Theron Nigeria: Sophie Okonedo ("Hotel Rwanda") China: Anna May Wong, Joan Chen, Gong Li England: Vivien Leigh, Greer Garson Germany: Romy Schneider, Elke Sommer Brazil: Sonia Braga Denmark: Connie Nielsen Austria: Senta Berger Norway: Liv Ullman Australia: Judy Davis and from Coo-coo Crazyland: Britney Spears/Lindsay Lohan -
"Love Affair" "FIle on Thelma Jordon" "Mississippi Mermaid" "TIll We Meet Again" "Marked Woman" Kerr in "Eye of the Devil" "Torrid Zone" "Portrait of Jennie" and "KILLER OF SHEEP" are some of the films shown in January that I'm looking forward to. And then there's Harlow on the 20th. I might have to take off a day from work.

Guy went the other way? Whoa. Okay. You're in California? I'm soo sooo sooooo sorry to hear about the tragedy the fires are causing to countless others. I pray all remain safe as Mother Nature rages on. Geez. Ciney. I like that ;-)

Marilyn and Ray Bloch...two outta three ain't bad. That ain't Ava.

"...Yes, I could definitely see a squash bug science fiction creature-feature movie from the 50's. Complete with Kenneth Tobey, the Army, and Beverly Garland." ------------------------------------- Bronxie...just in case Beverly Garland is busy doing Blanche DuBois...there's always Margaret Sheridan, or Allison Hayes, or Faith Domergue or my personal favorite Barbara Rush to star as the female lead opposite Tobey or Richard Carlson. Will you write the script?

The Lovely Ladies of Hitchcock (1927-1949): A Visual Tour
CineMaven replied to FrankGrimes's topic in Films and Filmmakers
I wish I could like Robert Montgomery. I can't. I just can't. I've tried...I've tolerated him, but I just can't. That's what prevents me from looking at "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." I've endured him through through Norma Shearer. LOVE Lombard! And the pictures of Teresa Wright...Oh my. Lovely, lovely! -
You see how careers ebb and flow. One minute you're working with the Master of Suspense playing a doctor to James Stewart another icon of the silver screen. The next minute you're playing a banker named Mr. Drysdale, playing second fiddle to Max Baer Jr. and Irene Ryan. Gee. Hollywood's a tough place. That's show bizzzzzzzzzz. By the by...your thesis on "Vertigo" is masterful Frank!! I say you and MissGoddess oughta put a book of essays together. "Talking About the Movies." C'mon!! Oooh, Jeanne Moreau is on right now in "Elevator to the Gallows." Gotta run. Night folks.

Thistledown...Carolyn...thank you for the humor. I say let's give Guy a twenty-one gun salute. Now who was over the hood of a car?? No blind items here.
-
"Ride Vaquero..." if I had to choose between Robert Taylor and Anthony Quinn, I'd choose Ava Gardner. Uh, I mean...Anthony Quinn. She looks gorgeous.

"Hey, it's a list, not a census report. I'm stickin' to 25 - and these are the 25 I like best right now. But, yeah, the names you name are all top-drawer." Okay. Not a consensus; just a list. Not an edict? So what are the rest of us to do? Just look at your list...make one of our own? Just add Ava or Yvonne DeCarlo on to your list and we can all be friends.
-
Miss Goddess I love the behind-the-scene look at "The Bad & the Beautiful." Lana looked like an icon in that movie. I heard that Kirk wanted to make a pass, but her boyfriend, Fernando Lamas, was on the set a lot. Yikes! Talk about missed opportunities.
-
"But that would've entailed removing a couple of the names already there. Sorry. Can't bring myself to do it. But if the list were longer..." WHADD'YA TAWKIN' ABOUT??? YOU MADE THE LIST. YOU CAN BREAK THE RULES. Put Virna and Monica Vitti and Sylva Koscina or whoever you want on that list. C'mon man. Yo! That you thought you could make a list of only 25 Screen Beauties was c-c-razy!!

I think good questions will bring out the old timers.
-
Keep your cigar. This dude looks scary! Next question.
-
Judy Garland. Greer Garson or Deborah Kerr.
-
The surprise find for me in "I Married A Communist" was Janis Carter. I thought she was spectacular!!! But this is a Laraine Day thread, so let me say how good she was in "The Locket" a movie with a flashback within a flashback within a flashback. Very interesting. She was very good. But can I just say JANIS CARTER: Hubba Hubba!!
-
Put Yvonne DeCarlo, Julie Christie, Ava Gardner and Joan Chen on your list and remove some of those other babes and then you'll have something there. (Leigh Taylor-Young from Peyton Place? ) See, that's the problem with lists. You have her representing the sixties and NOT Candice Bergen or Jacqueline Bissett?? Dude!
-
Lauren those photos you posted of Ava are positively...positively...aah words escape me. Okay I thought of a word: L-U-S-C-I-O-U-S ????? Especially the shot of Ava putting on her lipstick. Great Caesar's Ghost!!!
-
I like my Trevor 1940's style...with lusciously lacquered hair, full eyebrows and that dynamite voice. G-g-g-g-rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
-
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, you're THAT big a fan of horror films, ey?? " I'd give up the Halloween schedule for a Kerr tribute; that's how much I loved her -- I wouldn't do it for many other actresses. "
-
GUY!!! You're in bed with one of the hottest sleazy hotties of Hollywood and you're doing the wild thaang with your socks on??? Sheesh! It sound like a bad porno movie from the fifties. Were his socks black or white?? Just askin'.
-
I guess with everyone serving their serfdom in their own studios... never the twains (stars) shall meet. That's why it was a treat to see old Hollywood premieres, where the stars hobnobbed with each other. You know...thinking of the passing of Deborah Kerr, I am looking at an HBO or Showtime movie called "Losing Chase" with Helen Mirren and Kyra Sedgwick (directed by Kevin Bacon) and thinking of Helen maybe having played Deborah's daughter(like Ingrid & Liv Ullman did in "Autumn Sonata")...or seeing Helen & Julie Christie together. Good thread idea. How come all of us are smarter than today's movie producers???????????????????????????????!! Shheesh!

Just read imdb's account of Barbara Payton. Jesus Christ!!! It read like a lurid dime store novel...but it was one human's life. Poor girl. Poor poor girl. (If it were a movie...I'd put Scarlett Johansson in it and let her go to town..or to pot...or to hell). Seriously, poor girl. A life wasted.
