Jake...you're starting to be one of my new favorite people on these boards. Tell me, how d'ya feel about Gloria Grahame.
-
I'm surprised I haven't heard from my fellow Noo Yawkers. We had the Theatre 80 St. Marks (in the Village) and Carnegie Hall Cinema and the Thalia on West 96th Street were some of the places I got my 'old movies' education. Say, am I forgetting any others?
-
Quite a dark beauty and a good foil opposite Bing and Bob.
-
I'm sooo sorry I missed this one.
-
Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh! I might not have always liked her choice of films...but she was glorious to look at. Thursdays nights have been heaven for me.
-
Dammit SCSU. You got me again. How'd you know? Okay, you're clairvoyant.
You're right!!
-
Hi Jack. I'm going to assume you were talking to me since Bio 47 is (thankfully) long gone from these boards.
Yes, I agree...the players don't seem to change much anymore since there's no studio system. But come to think of it, when we did have the studio system, Sheridan & Cagney played a number of times, Gable & Loy, Gable & Harlow, Bette & George as well.
I got a chance to ask Helen Mirren a question when I went to a New York Times seminar where she was interviewed and had a book signing. I was in heaven and floated away. She's absolutely gorgeous. (I have an autographed copy of her book).
Aaaaah!

cmvgor...I am impressed!!
-
EUREKA!!! That was a great tribute by Robert Redford. I'm a big fan of hers and it's still such a shame she is gone. Damned shame.
-
Mr. Favell: "And she can act rings around anyone else...."
I loved her in that recent movie opposite Judi Dench. I'd love to see Cate opposite Helen Mirren. Now there'd be a match!!
-
I don't know about Madge...but I LOVE Ramsay Ames.
-
I always favored talking horses (Mr. Ed for instance).
Don't worry...I'm not stalking you. Like your sense of humor.
-
JAKE: Your choices are exquisite. I'm happy to see Inger Stevens recognized and remember.
SCSU: "Ok: 1. Anne Francis 2. Kay Francis 3. Connie Francis."
Why not Frances Farmer, Frances Dee and Frances Langford??
And yes...Shirley I jest! ;-)
-
Whew Jake!!! How many times did you see the movie to get all THAT down. I LOVE Cate Blanchett! Thanxx for recalling that speech.
-
Hi Jake...don't get me started on Hedy. I think it's against the law to gush about Lamarr on another actress' thread. But boy oh boy oh boy!
-
"where is this class suppose to be? i would very much like to attend. i love learning new things!......i hope our teacher is exciting, my economics teacher could put betty hutton to sleep. heehee!"
Put Betty Hutton to sleep...I laughed out loud and I'm sitting inmy local bar with my laptop.
Looking at the class of Peyton Place below, it looks like this is before Brown v Board of Education. Hopefully we've all progressed and everyone is welcome. CUTTER: thanxx for the location of the class. I look forward to it.
Oh and for a good time call 212-DOUBLE-G. Gloria knows what to do.
-
SCSU: "My three are:
1. Minerva Urecal
2. Margaret Hamilton
3. Edna May Oliver."
Geez!!! Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder, but you're blind as a BAT!!! Surely you're not putting Minerva Urecal above Marie Dressler???!!!
I know...I know. Don't call me Shirley! ;-)
-
Say, RedHook: "How about a blonde a brunette and a red head: Catherine Deneuve, Hedy Lamarr, Maureen O'Hara."
Don'cha mean: Alice Faye, Ava Gardner and Rita Hayworth??
Message was edited by: CineMaven...had to underscore them.

See wha'cha started Milland? And all of the ladies on the list are so lovely to look at. Can't wait to see how this plays out.
Raining Violets wrote the answer I almost put:
Hedy Lamarr
Hedy Lamarr
Hedy Lamarr.
Does that count as three votes??
MOLO I LOVE your choices.

Hey Cutter "Kid, A thread was started on this very topic this morning in General Discussions: It is still on the front page of General Discussions tonight. Sometimes checking out the forums to see which threads have been started can be your friend."
This'd be good advice unless one is egotistical and always wanted the last word or see her/his name up in lights on the top of the board.
Yikes! That might be me.
"I'll never go hungry again tra-la!"
-
Congrats to Patricia Neal. She was sexy mama...and a fine and talented actress. Loved that sexy throaty voice of hers too.
-
This thread will be nothing but trouble, but I'll start with:
(1). HEDY LAMARR
(2). ELIZABETH TAYLOR
(3). CATHERINE ZETA JONES
Their beauty is astounding, mesmering, and otherworldly.
A shout out honorable mention for FRANCES DEE and ZASU PITTS
-
ChiO...you're subject line has me cracking up! So YOU'RE the clever boy I will be cheating off of. Good to know.
Please make it obvious if the class does indeed proceed in June. I usually sleep in the back of the classroom.
-
Well...you kids take care. Let me know what the assignments will be and where to answer them.
And when.

Am I being blacklisted?

"Type on eggshells."
Wonderfully put. I've seen a lot of yolks spilled on this message board.
