Cutie! Saaay...one out of two ain't bad.

You are a scholar and a gentleman. And I thank you for understanding my humor. Thanx! ;-)
Now...are there any other takers who can help me clearly understand wha' hoppin'??

There was no storm, or train going into the tunnel shots.
Oh no...please don't send me to the "Naive, But Curious" thread in Hot Topics...

HA! Tell that to his constituents in Minnesota. (I think it's Minnesota, right?) All politicians are actors, si?
Peter Graves: "Stalag 17."
Margaret Lindsay...

Fred in light of what you wrote, and I quote you below:
"In the old code films they always did it when the camera was off, after the fade to black..."
May I push my question one step further? Since there was no fade out or dissolve in that rainy scene with Mitchum & Greer that I referred to in "Out of the Past" what can we make of what happened?
Thanx.

Get back your TCM. Redriver, did you cancel the station and re choosing not to receive it? Isn't there anything else worth watching that would make you have TCM again?

WoW! The vault is getting filled with great movies. And it's interesting for me to read who you feel is worth saving a thousand years from now. Thank you and you too VisualFeast.

Cagney with a Cockney Lower East Side brogue.
Hmmm...kinky!

Oh no, not again.
Ava, you're opening up a Pandora's Box with this thread. You're a newbie, but we all just had a fight about this a couple of weeks ago.
YIKES!

If you believe this...why not scroll on down to my "Thousand Years" thread.
And Arkadin...don't leave out the name of that beautiful actress: GERALDINE FITZGERALD who plays the widow in "Nobody Lives Forever."

Go to www.imdb.com which can answer those questions for you.
Does anyone know what Jose Ferrer DID to Peter O'Toole in that scene??? What the hey...

Respectfully may I say au contraire, mon frere. I never got the impression that Eve was going from sweetness to cold-calculating-bitchdom. I thought she was always the conniver.
(Of course not the first time I saw the movie, but subsequent times).
But I come not to bash Anne, but to say that 1950 was one hell of a year for the Best Actress category. I think a few of them wish this performance in a different year. How do you choose between Eden and Shangri-La??
-
Thank you. And please do. :-)

I'll take my Christian, Gabled, not Brandoed.

What an ignominious end for Veronica Lake. Sad. Just plain sad.

May I piggy back on what you've written and say I'd love to take Mayo Methot out for a drink and tell her that that guy Bogart who's giving her the rush, may not be the guy for her; save herself some heartache... and concentrate on a career. Oh yeah, I'd get her to lay off the bottle, too.

Selfish!!

May I Hollywood...I think Josephine Hull and Nancy Olson AND the great Ritter could have been eliminated from the running that year. I add Thelma Ritter to the elimination because she should have won a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her fantastic portrayal in "Pick Up on South Street."
Eleanor Parker's transformative arc from a sweet kid to a hardened woman was amazing. But Bette Davis, I swear...
Too bad there was not a tie. (Please don't get me wrong, I think Baxter played it superbly!!! But imagine how ballistic Baxter would've been if Davis had tied with anyone of those other actresses?? That might've been a worse explosion than *"Krakatoa, East of Java").
Damn, these boards are ADDICTIVE!!! I have laundry to do.
*I know, I know..."Krakatoa..." was WEST. Okay, where's the fabric softener???

I've never seen this "trilogy" in its entirety. Just bits and pieces. But you've certainly piqued my interest and your comments are VERY funny. I think I've suggested you ought to write a series of essays on your view of films. I think you could be another Irma Bombeck.
As for Jimmy, I remember seeing him so angry in "After the Thin Man." It looked kind of sexy. And he was so angry yelling how Novak was such "an apt pupil" in "VERTIGO." But there's something kind of disquieting and...well...CREEPY about our beloved Jimmy getting so apopletic about his daughters in these films. You've got Maureen O'Hara and you're creeping out about Sandra Dee? A little Lolita-ish & Humbert Humbert, non?

Bronxgirl...what did you think of the freeze frame at the end of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"??
-
E-z there pardner. My sister is a native-born Noo Yawker. She's just lived in Texas for the past 20 years. I don't want her getting in trouble with any real Texans. Hell, I saw "GIANT."
And to answer the thread's question: Kate Beckinsale, Sanaa Lathan & Scarlett Johanssen are among the prettiest of today's actresses.

Piggy backing on your mentioning "Bram Stoker's Dracula" I liked the line in "The Mummy" (1931):
The old doc explains to the young man how to wake up the sleeping/comatose heroine:
"Call her! He's dragged her back to ancient Egypt. Call her. Her love for you may bridge the centuries."
I wait for it EVERY time!
And I want to quote and repeat CelluloidKid's line from waaaay back in the thread:
"Niagara"
Ray Cutler: Why don't you ever get a dress like that?
Polly Cutler: Listen. For a dress like that, you've got to start laying plans when you're about thirteen.

In 'OUT OF THE PAST" when Kathy and Jeff (Robert Mitchum and the beautiful Jane Greer) come in from out of the rain, and towel each other's hair dry, Mitchum throws the towel and it knocks down a lamp; the camera pans outside to the rainy night...and immediately cuts back to the couple.
Were they "doing it"?? I often wondered about that 'cuz when we cut back into the house an instant later, they don't look appreciably disheveled and you know if she was with Mitchum, she was definitely going to be "disheveled." ;-)

Let's talk to the people of the future who will no doubt be watching classic films.
You are going to put five films in a vault that will NOT be opened for a thousand years.
When the people of the future open up the vault, what films will they find? Let me explain it like this:
Take five actors, actresses, directors OR any combination thereof:
1._________
2._________
3._________
4._________
5._________
And name one quintessential film that they've done that you feel represents the pinnacle of their career.
1._________ in "__________"
2._________ in "__________"
3._________ in "__________"
4._________ in "__________"
5._________ in "__________"
What film would that be? (The film, VHS tape, DVD, Betamax whatever will be protected & pristine when the vault is opened). You may explain your choice if you like, but really challenge yourself and pick one. What am I saying? Go on...break the "rules." You know you will anyway:
1. GARBO in "CAMILLE"
2. GABLE in "GONE WITH THE WIND"
3. BOGART in "CASABLANCA"
4. BETTE in "ALL ABOUT EVE"
5. HITCHCOCK'S "VERTIGO"
And if there's a teensy place left in the vault...may I add to the future:
6. TIERNEY in "LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN"
What would YOU add?

Veronica Lake

Wait a cotton-pickin' minute Redriver...is trying to get to first-base with a girl a suicidal offense? You want Georgie blowin' his brains out 'cuz he tried to go on the make for Lake?
