"CARVE HER NAME WITH PRIDE (Virginia McKenna as famous WW2 intelligence operative)"
Funny to see her name. I just saw "Sliding Doors" starring Gwyneth Paltrow and there was a shot of an older woman playing one of the character's mother. It looked like Virginia McKenna. When I read the end credits, it was indeed...Virginia McKenna. She has aged...but it was recognizably her, and she was still beautiful.

Miss Betty your writing has made me swoon. WoW! I've never been a costume drama lover so I've kind of stayed away from "The Ghost & Mrs. Muir." (LOVE GENE THOUGH). But after reading your words...I must make it a point to check out that film again. Have you ever seen Tierney in "The Shanghai Gesture"? If you haven't...you've a treat in store.
Now, my favorite romance film is...
-
Is it true Barbara's stunning looks would put Hedy's to shame?

"Sacrilege! SCARED TO DEATH and BRIDE OF THE MONSTER are cult classics starring Bela Lugosi!"
Sorry Princie...I actually LOVE both those films I cited. Sorry I used them to make my point. I love today's films...I love the classics of yesteryear...I love schlock and prestigious films. I love movies!
-
Is that quote from "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls"?. Now talk about puking, being grossed out and etc...
And Fred, I hear ya. Every movie is not for everyone.
-
"Scared to Death" "Bride of the Monster" (and others). Are you sure there weren't directors and actors comparable to today's Judd Apatow and Will Ferrell back in the golden age of Hollywood???
I love classic films as much as the next person. (I daresay more). But c'mon guys...you didn't laugh at "The 40 Year Old Virgin"??
-
"Sorry for barging in. There are so few threads these days that are engaging, I was just enjoying the moment!"
I apologize for my piqued moment. Perhaps I was just sore I didn't think of those films first. You're so right about the threads these days.
I'll just add one defining moment of my own: Monty & Elizabeth's kiss in "A Place in the Sun." That close-up kiss of theirs has never been equalled in the history of motion pictures.
Go on LZ...name some more. You're very knowledgeable.

"My interpretation of Waldo Lydecker's relationship with Laura is that she's the female he really wants to be, but he doesn't know it yet. He still feels like an inadequate male, jealous of her appreciation of macho men."
Well Bronxie baby...truer words were never spoken. I always wondered why Waldo put up such a fuss for Laura. Maybe who he really wanted was Mark. I mean, can you see that bathtub scene being done today??

Lombard. xoxoxoxoxoxo Lombard.

"Does anyone else notice that Miss Torso's apartment is SO SMALL?? We see her dancing and entertaining guests, but it looks like all she's got is about 300 square feet. True, the porch expands it a bit, but still..."
Well obviously, it's a New York apartment. Who did she sleep with to get such a large pad?
-
If you can hang out until midnight..."The Awful Truth" will be on. What a funny film.
"Go on honey...truck it!"

Heh...heh...heh...which poster[/i].
-
...WHO hasn't seen "Laura"
Most probably the ones who haven't seen "Casablanca" and there are quite a few of them on these boards.

-----------NEW MESSAGE-------------
Well what are y'all waiting for. Catch-up. CATCH-UP on those classics!
-
If you could send a TCM poster into a film and have them stay there, who would you choose???
-
Awmigawd...Mr. Novak. I was totally in love with the gorgeous blonde James Franciscus. Thank you for bringing up his name. It brought memories flooding my...
Thanx!
-
I'm going to go with the lovely, the delicate, the beautiful: EDNA PURVIANCE. She had the greatest name too.
-
I enjoyed "Se7en" and "Silence of the Lambs." But I guess that was officially Monday morning. Oh well. I still love TCM and NO ONE can stop that.
-
Hey, maybe someone else can get a shot here. Whew!
-
"The LITTLE Foxes."
-
'...suppose some have not seen 1944's "Laura", so I won't give it away, but those who have seen it know the moment I have in mind.'
Yep...Laura being interrupted pinning up her hair at her night table. Aw geez...WHO hasn't seen "Laura" yet?
"Primal Fear" had a twist that was absolutely stunning...but I think the best was Darth Vader claiming paternity. You know what I mean: "I AM YOUR FATHER...SEARCH YOUR HEART. YOU KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE!"
-
'NETWORK."Period!
-
I always thought the evil queen in "Snow White" was sexy as hell. C'mon, tell me she doesn't make you think of the gorgeous, the evil Gail Patrick. Grrrrrrrrrr...
-
You can say THAT again.
But cut...uncut..."Killer of Sheep" was a good heartfelt film! Again...reminiscent of the neo-realism films of post-war Italy.
Thanx TCM!
-
I liked the ending...fading out on Dad (Walter Connelly) as he's listening to a barrage of reasons from the wacky foursome.
Wonderful film. Others may disagree but I very much enjoyed the re-make "Easy to Wed." Well-cast. (A man can do anything a baboon can do.")
