  1. Temperature is great in Texas. But one thing...where I'm staying at has NO TCM in my niece's house. AAARGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a trade-off. This is the closest I'll get to the Duke until after 4:30pm today. Ugh! I did want him wafting over my atmosphere here while I'm babysitting.

  3. "Agggh. So basically you are dressed like this? I swear this is Anne Francis. I can't confirm it though. I thought maybe you would know?" - << ( JACK FAVELL ) >> Ha...not quite...and I wouldn't look that good. But I did just have on a light sweater. Oh...that is unequivocably not Anne Francis. "You're being unpleasant!" - << ( MISS GODDESS ) >> Ewwwww! That did sound like gloating, right? Heh, heh. "I'm actually thinking the 30s are a 'heat wave'." Girl, I can believe it!
  4. Haaaa...you're right Jackaaaaaaaaay: the good ol' days. P.S. Tomorrow I will show my nephew "THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS." It's 82 F down here in Killeen, Texas today. Aaaaaaah!!
  5. I showed my Texan seven year old great-nephew "ATTACK OF THE FIFTY-FOOT WOMAN" for the first-time. He liked it. Now he may not be as discerning as your Mother...but he knows what he likes. * When he saw the man from the satellite, he wondered if he was Warrior (becuz of his outfit). * He likes black and white movies because color movies are so bright. * When they were using the (rotary) phone to call for the sheriff my nephew asked if they were dialing 9-1-1. * He didn't understand why the sheriff didn't use an AK-47 to shoot the 'giant.' He didn't notice Allison Hayes. He's seven.
  6. WHAT??!!! CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER?? Am I reading between the lines properly? You did it!!! You did it. I hope you two will be very happy.
  7. "You're right. We'd better be good. Sensible. Even if it takes years!" I've been watching "A SUMMER PLACE." Gawd help me...it's my guilty pleasure..the color...the schmaltz...the melodrama...Constance Ford's sexy repression...Richard Egan's big booming voice & handsome physique in his Izod Lacoste tight polo shirt...Dorothy McGuire's sincerity and moist eyes...Sandra Dee's pouty mouth....the soft focus ...the fabulous late 50's decor.....the over-ratedness of being "good"...the ocean's metaphoric crash-ing waves...the lovely lilting theme song...clueless, sanctimonious parents...crashing heavy-handed music...the dreaded unwanted pregnancy...scattered, half-baked teenage plans and... no one but no one wears color better than Troy Donahue. SANDRA: "Is kissing me tough? TROY: "Stopping after one is." SANDRA: "Please??" Yeah...Gawd help me!
  8. Probably 'cuz the first-time poster is always the same two or three posters who hold a grudge against TCM for: * firing them... * not hiring them...
  9. Grand job TCM! Thank you for the series!
  10. Hi there Mongo, The pix of Elyse Knox and Lee Remick are lovely. Elyse Knox is the mother of Mark Harmon. I remember her being in one of the "Mummy..." movies. The Gary Cooper puppet gives me the willies and creep me out...but for that matter, all "puppets" do. :-(
  11. Bon soir Monsieur Laffite: BTW, are you aware of the 1997 Washington Square, with Albert Finney and Jennifer Jason Leigh? I saw it eons ago and of course remember nothing. It was just on tv a coupla weeks ago. I watched fifteen minutes of it. I had to turn it. Ugh! I know it?s unfair to compare apples and oranges. Yes, D.H. A couple of years ago TCM featured gay issues in film, airing among others, The Fox (Sandy Dennis and Anne Heywood)...also a similar issue with Women In Love, a fascinating movie by Ken Russell, involving the Alan Bates and Oliver Reed characters. I?m old enough to have seen both of those movies when they were released. I also saw "The Virgin and the Gypsy? which stood me in good stead a few short years after its release. I was on a plane with Sidney Poitier and his new family with his second wife. When the plane landed I made a bee-line to him and got his autograph in a film book I had taken with me on my trip to the Bahamas. While everyone was crowding around him, his wife was kind of off to the side with the kids. I went over to her and told her I enjoyed her in the movie ?The Virgin and The Gypsy? and would she autograph my book. I could see she was happy that someone remembered her because not only was she Mrs. Sidney Poitier she was also, Joanna Shimkus, and I got her autograph as well. Action Jaxxxxon, how the heck are ya?: I just watched "The Heiress" again, and tried to look at it solely from Dr. Sloper's viewpoint. A wealth of underacting is going on in Richardson's per-formance. He is never still, and there is so much sadness and confusion in his actions that I never noticed. I only noticed the coldness and the little slaps he seems to give to Catherine, trying to make her over in her mother's image. How did you do that? HOW did you do that? You just created a second movie out of a movie I?ve seen many number of times, by your singling out the performance of Ralph Richardson. Your poignant description of his performance is so compassionate you have won me over to watching the movie from his point of view next time. When it was on recently, I couldn?t bare to watch it since DeHavilland?s performance hurts my heart. Now you?ve given me another reason to watch it. It'll seem like a different movie to me. You?re making me appreciate Sir Ralph Richardson more and more with your wonderful writing. I know you and some others are Pappy?s Girls...but I?ll take Willie Wyler any day. He truly is a master and the one I'd like to most emulate in my forays into directing. ...And as for ?WOMEN IN LOVE? the wrestling match is the main reason to watch this movie. < Sigh! > Alan Bates did :x make my list.
  12. Hey man, I know my Lane Sisters. I'm a movie buff. Now let me go ponder the charms of Frank McHugh.
  13. Haha, it's the bow tie; they do say still waters run deep. ...And Lola did turn down her 'vamp'ness in this shot. (Remember her in "Marked Woman"??
  14. McHugh??? Wow...I might've underestimated his...talents. Let me checkout "Four Daughters" again.
  15. These are very ni--...hold up again. Sean Connery, Yul Brynner AND A HORSE?? Hmmm....I must be dreaming.
  16. Okay MM'57...I do see the mini-ramble on "WARLOCK." I haven't seen it in so many years, but I remember it well.
  17. No doubt Freddie, was a veddy veddy cutie pie. But still, my two all-time favorites are young Gene Reynolds, and Scotty Beckett (especially in his Little Rascals days. P.S. The pix you posted over in the Frank Grimes Torture Thread of Jean Arthur, especially the one in her pajamas, are great.
  18. I, for one, will be a very happy camper tonite, when TCM airs "WARLOCK." It's one of my favorite westerns. Hope you all watch it as well. :-)
  19. One of my favorite brunette Blondes is being featured tonite on TCM. And that is the wonderful DOROTHY MALONE. One of my absolute favorite westerns airs tonite: "WARLOCK." It may not have all the mise-en-scene of a John Ford western...but, it's got Dorothy Malone. I haven't seen it in ages, so this is a treat for me. Watch it tonite if you get a chance. You'll see Fonda & Quinn & Widmark. Check out these two clips on YouTube: They might be on the frivolous side...but hey, that's Hollywood. Enjoy tonite's fare and bring your own popcorn...and cigars. ;-)
  20. Miss Goddess writes: Woops! who put that in here? < ( Sigh! ) > Our last look at the Male Divine. What a way to end our portion of the topic. Laffite writes: MissG, The Maven is after me for my Top Ten Sexy list...you are putting me in the mood for that project with some of these recent photos... Quite lovely motivations, aren?t they? Hiya MadHat: Hi CineMaven, I really liked your reading your list and and all your observations. A wonderful, enlightening window into the inner workings of a Maven! And thank you so much. Grimesy writes: Will someone save me from all this torture! Post some pics of Grace and Gloria! Okay, quit yer panicking...see below.
  21. >Nobody will believe this (except maybe molo) but I was actually thinking of adding Warner Oland as Charlie Chan to my sexy-male list. So change "legendary" to "crazy". Okay Bronxie...when you visit us next time, please look over your list. And tell me you're still adding Warner to your list of men below: I can't put this list into any kind of order. For me, "sexy" in a guy equates with sensitivity, stability, intelligence, devotion, loyalty. As well as subjective physical appeal. George O'Brien Ronald Colman Gregory Peck (especially TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD and THE BIG COUNTRY) Laurence Olivier (especially PRIDE AND PREJUDICE) Ralph Bellamy Richard Greene Cornel Wilde (especially LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN) Robert Taylor (especially WATERLOO BRIDGE) Cary Grant (especially ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS, THE HOWARDS OF VIRGINIA, MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE, and ROOM FOR ONE MORE) Clark Gable (especially SAN FRANCISCO and ACROSS THE WIDE MISSOURI) Rod Taylor (especially THE CATERED AFFAIR and THE TIME MACHINE) John Gregson Harry Carey, Sr. Robert Donat Richard Todd (especially A MAN CALLED PETER) Nelson Eddy Roy Rogers Are you sure you don't mean Russell Wong? Ever since I saw him be such a meanie in "The Joy Luck Club" I've been in love. Okay okay...so l'll add him to my own list. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1365678592/nm0005568 Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Nov 29, 2010 5:49 AM
  22. Boys...you can dish it out, but ya cain't take it, can ya? No orchids for you either, MM.
