  1. Bringing this thread back to life because we're still faced with the abysmal lack of care on the part of Paramount (and to some extent Universal, to the extent they own a huge chunk of the Paramount classics library) to preserve and promote its classic films. TCM signed a deal with Paramount recently which has allowed it to show, among other movies, *Wings*, but hopefully more can be done to put more of the classic Paramount movies on the TCM schedule (and possibly also on DVD).
  2. FMC showed *The Bowery* (1933) earlier today, which stars Wallace Beery, George Raft, Jackie Cooper and Fay Wray.

  4. Donald O'Connor was in *Beau Geste* with Brian Donlevy
  5. > {quote:title=MissGoddess wrote:}{quote} > The picture quality of the entire documentary is only middling. But what about the other movies that come in the set? Granted I'm not going to be picky for something that sells for so little, but I'm still curious.
  6. Peter Breck was in *The Wild and the Innocent* with Sandra Dee

Sounds like I will like that one much more! > > Kathy was the one who let me know about this little gem buried deep within a multi-movie pack: How was the picture quality on the movies in that set?
  9. At the end of the movie the narrator says: "It may interest you, too, to know that the man we have depicted for you as State's Attorney Harvey was actually a Connecticut lawyer named Homer Cummings. He did not become governor of the state. He rose instead to one of the highest legal positions in the land: Attorney General of the United States." Also, according to the information in the little DVD insert, the shooting of *Boomerang!* marked the first time that the main street of a U.S. city was completely closed for multiple nights of filming. (Stamford stood in for Bridgeport, which was renamed Fairport in the film).
  10. I am going to look into my crystal ball and boldly predict that upon its release, *High School Musical 3: Senior Year* will immediately be recognized as the worst movie musical in the history of cinema.
  11. I watched *The Big Lebowski* when it first came out and haven't seen it since. Maybe I'll pick up the upcoming Collector's Edition and try to remember what it was all about. Did anyone read the NYT's interview with the Coen Bros. over the weekend? http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/31/movies/31head.html
  12. Dennis O'Keefe was in *The Story of Dr. Wassell* with Laraine Day
  13. For a second there I thought you were talking about the live grasshoppers. Isn't there someplace in southern Mexico (Oaxaca?) where they eat live grasshoppers?
  14. > {quote:title=CineMaven wrote:}{quote} > FilmFatale...I must look for "White Banners." > It's worth trying to catch, possibly next time TCM shows it. As good as it is, it's never been on home video as far as I know. No DVD, no laserdisc, not even VHS. Zip. And Claude Rains is quite good in it, also.
  15. > {quote:title=lzcutter wrote:}{quote} > George Clooney channels Clark Gable, wonderful homages to classic films and classic myths, two great side-kicks, the wonderful Holly Hunter "bona fides" and an amazing soundtrack. Oh, and did I mention John Goodman and Charles Durning (especially with his little dance)! > On a small side note, I wonder if George Clooney was going for a similar effect with his own effort, *Leatherheads*. It seemed like he wanted to recreate a screwball comedy or something.
  16. Lynn, have you ever been to the George Eastman house? (I think that's what it is called).
