I thought Brando's character regains his dignity at the end, and also earns the respect of his fellow workers. It also seems to have marked the beginnings of a tendency in Brando's career of playing characters who are brutally beaten.

Would it not perhaps be easier if we just discussed the movie itself? What does everyone think about the casting?

I'm glad you enjoyed it vallo. Personally I thought it was an interesting premise but not fully realized, and hurt a bit by what seemed a fairly low budget. I would love to see someone try a remake, with a somewhat updated screenplay. But I really wouldn't bet on that happening.
