On the Waterfront - Discussion

I thought Brando's character regains his dignity at the end, and also earns the respect of his fellow workers. It also seems to have marked the beginnings of a tendency in Brando's career of playing characters who are brutally beaten. -

mickeeteeze, if someone vented via PM about something (anything), is that all that different from the way you're venting here (admittedly, without stating any names)? -
Would it not perhaps be easier if we just discussed the movie itself? What does everyone think about the casting?

I'm glad you enjoyed it vallo. Personally I thought it was an interesting premise but not fully realized, and hurt a bit by what seemed a fairly low budget. I would love to see someone try a remake, with a somewhat updated screenplay. But I really wouldn't bet on that happening.

Fans of foreign-language films may be interested in the release of this 2002 Spanish movie: Lionsgate Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of *Mondays in the Sun* as part of The Meridian Collection on 21st October 2008 priced at $29.98 SRP. Javier Bardem stars in Fernando Le?n de Aranoa?s insightful and heartbreaking drama. The film follows five unemployed shipyard workers who spend their days drinking in a local bar and riding the ferry back and forth, to no destination. Led by the cocky Santa (Javier Bardem), a lonely former ladies' man, the men may be down on their luck but still manage to encourage each other to search for work, love and the strength to hope for better days. Presented in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85.1, this Meridian Collection DVD transfer was enhanced using the MTI Digital Restoration System to reduce the appearance of dirt, scratches and other film impurities. It includes deleted scenes, audio commentary, storyboard to scene comparisons and a making-of featurette.

Well, if that is the case, may I have another slice? This cake's yummy!
