Let's stop the practice of creating new threads in BOLD

Come on FF, you have been around here long enough to know better. > No, I didn't think it was OK, but I didn't think anyone would listen to me if I suggested that such thread might be more appropriate in another forum. So I merely tried to go along with something I didn't agree with personally but felt powerless to change. > Folks have been saying that there is a dearth of actual film talk in this particular forum as of late and over-running the forum in an attempt to one-up-CK as to who can post the most dueling threads is one reason why. I don't know why you would assume that it was "an attempt to one-up-CK". It was nothing of the sort. People seem to be enjoying these kinds of threads. It appeared to me that they led to some lively conversations about movies. I am not here to "duel" anyone, I am merely seeking a peaceful place in which to engage in conversations about movies with like-minded folks. I don't believe CK and I are like-minded so by far and large I try to avoid engaging with him. I found many of the things he did extremely annoying since way back in December and for the most part just ignored him since that point. There have been many instances when I have agreed with you and filmlover in that certain habits of him were annoying, and I tried to offer some constructive criticism, not to attack him, but so that he would become involved in the forums in a more productive manner. I don't have anything against him personally but I do think it's a bit rude of him to be so dismissive when others offer constructive criticism - something he has done not only with me, but also with you, filmlover, Edgecliff, FredCDobbs, and others. You may not spend much time in the DVD forums, but filmlover and others have literally spent months asking him nicely not to post repeat information. So I don't really think it is productive to try to engage with him even in the most polite possible way. -

I certainly am going to find all the glad rags I can, so I, too, can have "IT"! Just yesterday I was commenting on an upcoming Chanel biopic in which Audrey Tautou is playing the title role... so you could be on to something there. B-) -

Didn't Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake share a cup of coffee when they first meet at a diner in *Sullivan's Travels* ? My memory could be faulty, as I haven't seen the movie in decades.

> {quote:title=lzcutter wrote:}{quote} > Just because I posted in the original thread doesn't mean that you have to start a half dozen threads about Favorite Films. I'm merely addressing the fact that the threads were started in the "General Discussions" section of the forums and that no one suggested at that time that it might be more suitable to start such threads in the "Your Favorites" section of the forums. Personally, I didn't think at that time (Aug. 21st) that it was a very good idea (to start them here)... but nobody else said anything. So, rather than saying something about it at that time, I merely accepted what appeared by all rational standards to be something no one objected to. When it comes to unwritten rules, I think it is sensible that some people might either be entirely unaware about something, or come to misinterpret the way it has generally been understood here. It has never been my intention to "use" you as an excuse in any way, shape or form; on the contrary, Lynn, you have been an example that I have looked up to. -
Has this been mentioned before? *Missing Hammer films finally make it to DVD* There were a number of Hammer horror movies that for some obscure reason never made it to DVD, much of the dismay of fans around the country, particularly, since among these films were some of the studios? most beloved movies. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has finally prepared DVD versions of these films and is releasing them as a DVD box set called *Icons Of Horror: Hammer Films*. The 2-disc DVD set will allow fans to finally see *The Curse Of The Mummy?s Tomb*, *The Two Faces Of Dr. Jekyll*, *Scream of Fear* and most importantly, *The Gorgon* in restored anamorphic widescreen quality. Unfortunately the release will not contain any bonus materials, but for mot fans it will be satisfying enough to finally get their hands on these films. ?Icons Of Horror: Hammer Films? will be in stores on October 14 and can be yours for $24.96. http://www.dvdreview.com/news/viewnews.asp?id=10452 Or this? *The Pink Panther Ultimate Collection will give you everything* MGM Home Entertainment has just announced an incredible package of DVDs that will arrive this winter. Called *The Pink Panther Ultimate Collection*, this DVD set will include not only the nine feature films, but also nine cartoon classics and the quintessential Pink Panther encyclopedia, ?Pink Panther, The Ultimate Guide to the Coolest Cat in Town!? written by Jerry Beck.. Included as a special treat in the set is the new collector?s edition of the Oscar-nominated 1964 film *The Pink Panther* starring Peter Sellers as the bumbling Inspector Clouseau who tries to catch a jewel thief who?s right under his nose. This special collector?s edition can only be found in the box set and contains over 60 minutes of never-before-seen footage. But also included are *A Shot In The Dark*, *Inspector Clouseau*, *The Pink Panther Strikes Again*, *Revenge Of The Pink Panther*, *Trail of the Pink Panther*, *Curse Of The Pink Panther*, *Son Of The Pink Panther* and the 2006 version starring Steve Martin, *The Pink Panther*.. In terms of the cartons you will find Pink Panther Cartoon Collection Vol. 1 ? 9 on the release. ?The Pink Panther Ultimate Collection? comes to stores on November 25 with a $199.98 sticker price. Make sure you to make a note of it, but don't you just wish they would release these films in high definition also? http://www.dvdreview.com/news/viewnews.asp?id=10451

Kyle, You've raised a valid point; I wish you (or someone) had brought this up much earlier, since the earliest of these "favourite" threads was _started on Aug. 21st_. Even lzcutter posted in one of them, and she (like me) usually tries to politely remind people about certain unwritten rules, when people accidentally overlook them or are otherwise unaware. Having said that, I'd be all for moving all of these "favourite" threads to the "favourite" forum, if there is no technical impediment to doing so. People in the forums seem to be enjoying these threads, so it's just a matter of moving them where they belong, wouldn't you agree? Cheers, FF -

Bootlegging is a major concern to the studios. > > If we don't support the official releases of films on DVD by buying them instead of knock-offs, we are contributing to the problem of why studios feel there is no market for classic era films. Of course we should support official releases whenever possible. However I think there are three very different kinds of movies involved here: 1) Movies that are officially available on DVD from the studios' home video divisions 2) Movies that have not been officially released on DVD by those who hold the rights 3) Movies that are in the public domain. At least with movies that are in the public domain (many silent films now fall in this category), people should be allowed to trade, since no copyrights are being violated, right? -

I was planning on buying it, but I think I'll pass now, especially since the last 10 movie pack from Fox I bought was less than $50 (Tyrone Power vol.2) At that price, I'd rather rent than buy. Even if it's marked down to about $180 online it still comes to $18 per title, approximately.
