It's been ages since I read a Hitchcock bio but I seem to remember something along the lines of Hitch being too insecure about his own looks to ever think he could get the kind of "ice-cool blonde" that he apparently drooled over. Alma was very much the kind of woman he apparently needed, regardless of what he thought he would have liked to get, imho.

I've been trying to catch up on my Japanese cinema but I think this one has somehow managed to elude me for quite some time now. At least now I will remember this one is not a Kurosawa movie.
  5. Trekkers who didn't want their Trek episodes upgraded digitally can just hold on to the DVD sets they already have. No harm done.

  8. I have an easier time imagining Lionel Barrymore (In Henry Potter mode) as Scrooge McDuck.

It's a GREAT Documentary, it's still very sad to see a great studio fall like it did. It was indeed the saddest event in the history of Hollywood, marking as it did the end of its Golden Age.

  14. digitalbits.com is now saying that the first 3 Indiana Jones movies might be released on BR by 2009, but that it is strictly "rumour" worthy info and definitely *not* official.

That outfit would make any film essential. I don't think TCM standards & practices would approve, but hey, it might be worth a shot B-)

I will try and keep that in mind next time I watch it, which will probably be in December

  21. Replacing the old special-effects shots on a 60's show isn't the most representative example of how modern effects are usually used, although you do have a good point that they were well-used in that instance.
  22. Patrick Mcnee was in *The Elusive Pimpernel* which also features Jack Hawkins
