SD shows no signs of dying off soon. > Well, I don't think BR has to "win out" completely. I mean, more and more people will have HDTVs, no doubt, but there's also the possibility that both conventional DVDs and BRs will co-exist for a very long time. It'll all depend on whether some people want to make do with just upconverting DVD players > and that's what edgecliff is highlighting with this 'holiday inn' dvd (hi edgecliff)..... with no release in blu ray, 2 separate editions of the same film in SD released in this short time frame makes no sense, that's all we're saying.... It makes no sense to some of you, but it makes sense to me. And that's all I am saying.

If there is any reluctance (over switching to BR) it will most likely be temporary. The economy isn't doing so great right now and prices are still kinda high. But just wait, as more and more people get HDTVs for their homes, and BR players start coming down in price, and more and more titles are available in BR (including classic and "catalog" titles), it will gradually make more and more sense to make the switch. People didn't switch from B&W televisions to colour TVs overnight, but eventually it kinda became the standard.

> {quote:title=Edgecliff wrote:}{quote} > marcco44, Amazon still lists the recent HOLIDAY INN issue for $14.99 so why pay more for a colorized version. BTW, I can see Xmas 2009 Universal releasing a 4 disc version of the film with the same extras as the 3 disc version but with the fourth disc being Blu-ray. Edgecliff, I don't like beating a horse to death, but I happen to be one of those people who have been thinking about buying *Holiday Inn* myself. And for one, I am glad that I'll have a choice of which release I may be able to get. That, alone, makes me more likely to defend UHV for this latest re-issue even though I really hate the lack of care they've shown for many of their old classics.
