The important thing is for the studios to release to DVD the movies that people want to see.

We've played plenty of films with a lot stronger content than what's in "The Prisoner of Second Avenue." I was watching it myself on the air and was angry and disappointed. But it was just a mistake. Thank you for the clarification, TCM programmer.

I do remember reading a newspaper story about Netflix bringing back their telephone customer service center back to the U.S. because they thought the service would be better and friendlier. And back to the thread topic - anyone catch the re-issued DVD of *Joy House* ( *Les Felines* )

> {quote:title=marcco44 wrote:}{quote} > > i missed this.......yes, i just bought this last xmas, how ridiculous to re-do it so soon with new packaging & a cd thrown in! so is my edition out of print or something? Well, if any retailer still has copies, it's not OOP. Now I'm just going to play devil's advocate here and say that people who already have the DVD from previous issues are happy with it, why should they care if the film is re-issued? Let's just imagine that some folks who might want to buy it this coming holiday season were for any reason unable to buy it last year. They'll be happy to know that the film is going to be re-issued, and they probably won't care that much about the new extras, just as long as they can get the title for their libraries.

OK, so as some of you may be aware, *Starship Troopers 3* came out this week - straight to DVD. I was always a big fan of Verhoeven's Hollywood sci-fi films, although I'd admit to liking *Robocop* just a little bit better than the original *Starship Troopers*. I'm probably going a little bit easier on the 2 sequels simply because they were never meant for theatrical release, and as projects that were always meant to be seen in the small screen, they seem a bit better than, well, the average straight-to-video sci-fi flick to me. The best part of all 3 movies is to try to figure out what political analogy is being subtly (or not-so-subtly) being used to try to move things along. Oh and btw even though Verhoeven only directed the first one, that doesn't mean the sequels weren't made without the input of the original team - Phil Tippet directed the 2nd movie and screenwriter Ed Neumeier, who wrote all 3 movies, directed the 3rd installment.

The Garbo version of *Camille* is quite good, although personally I kinda like the Nazimova version just a little bit more because it has this offbeat quality that I just loved.

The fact is, many people curse in real life. And in many movies, the characters are supposed to act like some people act IRL. It's really just as simple as that. Heaven forbid we should end up with movies that have to be put through the PC filter, with all cursing, smoking, sex, nudity, etc. censored out. It'd be practically back to the heyday of the Code.

I wonder if the "Walt Disney Treasures" series is eventually going to be released in Blu-Ray. It'd be great since so many of them have gone OOP, IIRC.

I know. I keep waiting to run into a very obnoxious or stuck-up European just to repeat that whole speech. But so far, they've always been very nice to me. B-)

> {quote:title=JackFavell wrote:}{quote} > aaagh. I can't stand that I am stuck here in a burg that has no foreign film theatre..... it is awful. One theatre occasionally gets things that are most popular, like La Vie en Rose, but then I can't find anyone to go with me..... bummer. Got Netflix? It's the next best thing, I mean, I assume you live in the U.S.?
