Oh, yes, tomorrow will be quite the Garbofest.

I was stuck trying to decide whether this might belong under Sci-Fi or Family Films. Ultimately I guess many people who enjoyed the SW movies since '77 might be drawn to it even if it's mostly aimed at little kids. Some of us who are already big animation fans will have an added incentive to catch this in theaters, I suppose.

Well, there's not much to be said for horrendous horror films.

> {quote:title=joefilmone wrote:}{quote} > Tarantino needs to either write a great original script or adapt a good book into a movie. I would like to see him do that, too, but I don't expect him to. He's much happier indulging his geekdom. Speaking of the supposed *Pussycat* remake, how would you like Britney Spears to star in it? http://weblogs.variety.com/thompsononhollywood/2008/08/britney-spears.html August 06, 2008 Britney Spears to be Tarantino's 'Pussycat'? (posted by Stuart Oldham) Quentin Tarantino is a busy man. First, there was news of his wining and dining Brad Pitt to star in 'Inglorious Bastards.' Then, we hear that 'Hostel' director Eli Roth, in fact, landed a 'Bastard' role in the World War II drama. Now, rumors are swirling that pop-star Britney Spears has been approached by the director to star in a remake of the cult-classic, 'Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!' Whew! And you thought Paris Hilton was busy... I know what you're thinking: "Britney Spears? The only thing she's acted in (besides 'Crossroads' and 'The Mickey Mouse Club') is TMZ-vision!" Tarantino_pussy But before you lash out at Ms. Spears (or Mrs. Federline or whatever...), please consider a few things: 1) This is only a rumor. It may have about as much merit to it as an Elvis sighting. and 2) If true, she would be purrrrfect. Not only would the film re-vitalize Brit-Brit's career but Tarantino is a campy movie genius, not to mention visual poet. So while pop culture fans entertain the thought of such a union, let's only hope the Weinsteins aren't considering Lindsay Lohan for 'The Attack of the 50 Foot Woman'

I think the Chaney Vol. 2 box set was mentioned in dvdbeaver.com, but there is indeed no official announcement AFAIK.

The 2005 restoration with a Robert Israel score. Again my sincere thanks to TCM programer for making this all happen! > Jolly good news. Speaking of Chaney, whatever happened to the 2nd box set of his movies that was supposedly in the works? Any chance it'll be out before 2009?

I think it's more than that, to me focusing exclusively on the actresses seemed a bit misogynistic, but maybe that is not the intent with which it was posted.

Griffith's ORPHANS OF THE STORM (1921) with the Gish Sisters, is in-fact the brand new Kevin Brownlow-Patrick Stansbury restoration from Photo-play Productions produced in 2004! It has not been broadcast in the United States before, and hasn't been released on DVD either. So you will be seeing both a TCM, and American Television Premier come November! That's wicked good news!

I didn't realize iowahawkeye would make so many people upset just by mentioning the *Holiday Inn* reissue. I beg to differ with you on this one - it's a holiday perennial and it makes all the sense in the world for a studio to re-release it in time for the holiday season. Retailers aren't likely to stock as many copies all year long, and a reissue may help generate a little bit of interest. Think of this: the constant reissue of films like *Holiday Inn, White Christmas* and *It's a Wonderful Life* might -- just might -- help get more people interested in classic films who otherwise might not be. (Folks who already have the DVD can simply ignore the reissue). Don't get me wrong - I'm just as disappointed as everyone else here by the lack of interest on the part of Universal & Paramount (and to a lesser extent Columbia too) in releasing more of their classics on DVD. But if people see *Holiday Inn* or *It's a Wonderful Life* on the DVD shelves instead of just stuff like *The Santa Clause* during the holiday season - I try to see the positive in that.
-
*Murders in the Rue Morgue* also featuring Bela Lugosi

Well I guess *Holiday Inn* and *It's a Wonderful Life* are such holiday perennials that it is nice to know they will be available, for those that didn't already have them, in a nice, bonus-stacked version. I do think at some point you do have to give the studios some leeway for relying a bit on their most beloved classics, to hopefully supply a steady cash flow which in turn allows them to take a few chances with lesser-known movies. Not that Universal shouldn't be as active as WHV, because they should be. But with some titles it's good to know that they will remain actively in circulation.
