  2. *Godzilla* which has nothing to do with Toshiro Mifune
  3. Anyone else watch/record any Marie Dressler today? I really like that they played quite a few pre-codes today, including one which also stars Norma Shearer. And of course, the great ol' musical *The Hollywood Revue of 1929* of which most people have only seen a brief clip in *That's Entertainment! Part III*

  5. I wonder if he's made a bucket list...

I never had a chance to watch the series, so this was all new to me. I could have done without some of the gross-out scenes, though. It was designed to work as a "stand-alone" movie that would more or less make sense even to those not deeply familiar with the series, or with the complicated conspiracy theories. As for the gross-out scenes... I like that a lot better than the **** humour in a lot of modern-day "comedies".

It looks no better than the laserdisc copy I've seen. It was probably the same video master. I don't think WHV is in any hurry to release it on DVD, so they haven't bothered to remaster or restore it in any way.
  11. Looks like the video transfer for *Prosperity* wasn't done quite as carefully as some of the other movies they've shown today. Still, gotta love those title cards - 1925 - Money talked and was on speaking terms with everybody etc.

  13. I would like to think that precisely because this is Blu-Ray, catering to more sophisticated (I hope) customers, there will be less tolerance for horrible-looking PD versions - companies issuing PD titles will somehow maybe have to find better source material or otherwise won't be in business for long. But I admit, that's wishful thinking.

As for MGM - my guess is this might have been more true while Irving Thalberg was still there, maybe a bit less so when Louis B. Meyer was running the studio by himself.
  15. I'm glad to see so many of her movies on TCM, too. I'm really looking forward to *Min and Bill, Emma* and *Tugboat Annie*
  16. Oh and Neil Jordan's *Interview with a Vampire* is out in BR on 10/27 There - how long do you think before CK comes and repeats that same info?
  17. You may find more comments about Marie Dressler here: http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=132561&tstart=0
  18. Is it too much to ask that if someone answers late because two people post at the same time, he/she edit their post?

  20. > {quote:title=Fredmill38 wrote:}{quote} > In regards to CK, some of what has been mentioned already is correct in that he is trying to get attention. He's also trying to **** us off (sorry for the mild language) by disregarding what we've asked him to do and probably enjoying every minute of it. It's a shame since there are so many of us here who frequent the boards and post info about upcoming releases for others to know about who are devoted to classic film and television in general as well as posting info in other sections of the boards on just classic film and television itself. > Donna, No question about it, in my mind. Regardless of whatever age he claims to be, he behaves like someone barely in his teens, and I suppose should be treated as such. Or, more simply, like the joke that he has become. If he does not want to be taken seriously, we will not take him seriously. > Anyways, with *"Beat the Devil"* coming out, it stinks that it's going to be released possibly by a PD company. This film is one of many Bogart films that I have not seen yet and would like to since I've been unable to catch it when it was aired a while ago. However, I have not purchased it on DVD due to the fact that it is in PD. It would be nice if MGM/UA could get a hold of it and with the agreement that they have with FOX, a proper DVD treatment could be given since if I recall United Artists had released the film when it originally came out. > > ~Donna To the best of my recollection, the last legit release was by RCA/Columbia, but it's possible someone else owns the rights now, I guess.
