I was wondering whether anyone else had watched or recorded *The Wonderful World of The Brothers Grimm*. There was a laserdisc issue of the film, but the quality of the print used for the laserdisc issue was very poor, and was missing the prologue, overture, entracte and walk-out music from the Cinerama roadshow version. The film was also transferred in the incorrect aspect ratio, cutting off the far left and right portions of the image. I had the opportunity to watch this on laserdisc a few years ago, and it was a great deal of fun. However it seems that even this TCM broadcast wasn't quite complete - it included an overture and intermission music, but there was no exit music. Having said that, it's still the best presentation currently available of this great movie - one of only 2 narrative movies ever filmed in true Cinerama (together with *How the West Was Won*, of course). One can only hope that this movie will some day receive the same kind of treatment as *HTWWW* and be properly restored and released on DVD and blu-ray. Until such day might come, the TCM print is the best thing we have.

Hopefully, the TCM print will look as good, if not better, than the VHS you have. I'm not sure about the broadcast signal, but wasn't VHS capped at about 280 lines of resolution?

My understanding is that the discussion you started was about the TCM forums. Your reference to the quote from the Obama speech brings to mind the very real and serious threat of fundamentalist terrorism. With all due respect, I believe if the intent was to create something of a parallel, it might not be the most sensitive way to go about it. Certainly not when terrorism has had a very real cost in human lives, while anything having to do with the forums would, I would presume, involve at the most some bruised egos and hurt feelings. Perhaps I have misunderstood the intent of your reference to Obama's speech. If I did misunderstand it, then sorry. But I do think that the people who have lost loved ones to acts of terrorism would not appreciate such criminal acts to be compared to something that has happened in a movie forum. Having said that, I too hope that the message of the new U.S. administration might prevail upon the spirit of the American people, and that, in all walks of life, we will try to distance ourselves from petty disagreements and divisive strategies. Together, we can do a lot to make everything around us a more conducive environment for people wanting to create a true community where mutual understanding is the norm rather than the exception.

Kim, I almost forgot to mention this other Ning site: http://netflixcommunity.ning.com/ Obviously it is centered on the needs of Netflix subscribers, but you find a lot of folks who like all kinds of different movies. And if you are a Netflix suscriber, you'll get a lot of useful information on the "throttling" of DVDs, occasional slowdowns in DVD delivery, etc. With almost 8,000 members, it's definitely one of the largest movie-related communities I know of on Ning.

Dear kimpunkrock, As one of the creators of the TCM Fans site, I'd like to thank you and let you know I appreciate your suggestions. Like you said, it's very new at this point. We just created it around New Year's Eve, so it's approximately 3 weeks old. Of course everyone who wants to start a blog there about classic cinema can do so! The other neat thing about a Ning profile is that you can set your own privacy settings, so you decide whether your photos, videos, blogs, etc., are visible to everyone, or only those in your friend list (or just to yourself).
