  1. I tried to watch as many of the Ann Sothern films they showed today and record the ones I couldn't watch. Right now *Cry 'Havoc'* is on, and after that it's back to the Thursday series of "New York vs. L.A."

In any event, I guess it's not every day we get to celebrate the Centennial Birthday of one of the old stars, so I'm glad TCM was able to schedule these 7 movies today.

  2. Easy Living is one of my favorite comedies. I really love the scene where Arnold and Arthur are arguing in the car when they first meet and also how he get's so exasperated with his family.

My favourite scene in *Easy Living* would be the one in the Automat when Milland's character gets into trouble. I started a thread a while back asking for impressions of people who had actually eaten in an automat, when they were still all over the place.

*Did you ever eat at an old-fashioned automat?*

Not all remakes are bad: *The Wizard of Oz* (1939), *The Maltese Falcon* (1941) and *Waterloo Bridge* (1940) were all remakes of earlier movies.

More recently, Martin Scorsese's *The Age of Innocence* is arguably a better movie than the old RKO version (which has been shown on TCM).

A remake that I'm really looking forward to is Tim Burton's live-action *Alice in Wonderland*, which has been made into a movie before both as live-action and as an animated feature.

  4. Don't forget this Saturday, Jan. 24 at 9:45am ET:

    *The Big Heat* (1953)

A police detective whose wife was killed by the mob teams with a scarred gangster's moll to bring down a powerful gangster.

Cast: Glenn Ford, Gloria Grahame, Jocelyn Brando, Alexander Scourby Dir: Fritz Lang BW-90 mins, TV-14
