Well they altered some sequences (and removed one from one of the anthology films) for PC reasons. Like someone else just mentioned, digitally removing the cigar that Pecos Bill previously smoked, for example.

    > Frank, please don't ramble about "IN A LONELY PLACE." I'd rather continue to read about you rambling about rambling rather than actually read you ramble about a movie. It's more entertaining.

Oddly enough, I'm kind of inclined to agree with that statement. :P

  3. Well, I guess Frank isn't going to tell me why he's mad at me. :P

At any rate, I was going to ramble a bit about *Never Say Never Again*

I've just heard this movie is about to be released on blu-ray in a couple of months. This is a great announcement, since this is the only James Bond movie with Sean Connery that isn't part of the "official" series, which means that MGM Home Video doesn't own the rights to it. The movie is a sort of remake of *Thunderball*. It marked Connery's return as 007 in 1983, more than a decade since he'd last played the part in 1971's *Diamonds are Forever*.

While it's not one of the greatest Bond movies ever, it does have some unique appeal, maybe because the cast is just so unlikely: Kim Basinger is the Bond girl (Domino), Max Von Sydow plays Blofeld, and Edward Fox plays M. There's also the smallish part for Rowan Atkinson, as Nigel Small-Fawcett. Many years later, Atkinson would take his own stab at making fun of the whole 007 with his mildly successful comedy *Johnny English*.

I am really looking forward to the blu-ray of *Never Say Never Again*, not just because of the movie itself, but also because the most recent DVD of the movie was manufactured quite a few years back, so even by the modern-day standards of DVD production, the last available incarnation of the movie left quite a bit to be desired.

  4. I would never argue that *Never Say Never Again* is one of the best Bond movies ever. However there is some unique appeal for those of us who'd missed Sean Connery after he left the "official" series. Incidentally, here is the cover art for the blu-ray version:

So you want to be 10 years wiser before you'll share your insights with all TCM viewers (as opposed to just us here in the forums)?

Well, sometimes certain things are worth the wait.

Now, suppose you share some of your film knowledge and writing prowess and tell me what you thought of my rambles for today? (for *Counsellor at Law* and *Johnny Belinda* ). My writing must be pretty bad, I got no comments from anybody! :(

molo, based on everything that you've written, I do wish you'd been asked, as well. ;)

  7. Well, I had promised earlier to try and have some screencaps from *Charade*. Sorry it's taking a little bit longer than I expected, there's just so many great scenes in the movie.

In the meantime, here's a couple of shots taken from the trailer (which is included in the Criterion DVD):

I love how they set up the kind of expectations they hoped the movie would fill. Some of the elements of Maurice Binder's artwork for the opening credits were also used here.

This is one of the shots of the French Alps, apparently, taken directly from some of the scenes in the movie. B-)

Oh, molo, it is not so hard. I just wrote two rambles and some screencaps, to boot. When is Frank going to be as prolific? As the Duke said, "That'll be the day!" :P

*I could sense she was goin' for the rope.*

I promise, I won't be goin' for no rope. ;)

    Frank,

Are you mad at me for somethin'? You're usually such a sweetheart. :x

    > Well, you replied to Cinemafan and quoted Cinemafan from a post he made about how he felt the Guest Programmers were chosen and you replied that you thought his criteria was "highly subjective".

    >

    > Guess my sense of logic is out of whack. I'll send it out for repair, pronto.

    =sigh=

"highly subjective" referred to *content* being used as criteria, generally speaking - not to what cinemafan was suggesting was the criteria for this particular selection process.

    clear now?

  10. Lynn, Lynn, Lynn. Is it completely impossible to have a serious conversation without one or more serious misunderstandings?

OK, I re-read the thread, and while it is true that cinemafan was referring to _guest programmers_ when replying to Fred, I did not mean to imply that my comment was in reference to _anyone in the forums_, and I think I was extremely clear about that. It was NOT in reference to the folks who were chosen. It was a comment in general, about folks in the forums, in general. Please, as I asked Kathy yesterday, do not take offense at a comment that was not meant for you or in the way that you interpret it. At the very least, if you think the words or the meaning aren't entirely clear, ask for a clarification.

Honestly, I cannot believe how quick some folks in the forums are to take offense over something that they have entirely misunderstood, or misinterpreted. If you are uncertain as to whether or not a statement is perfectly clear, is it not better to politely ask for a clarification?

I truly wish neither you nor Kathy nor anybody else would be so quick to take offense or interpret certain statements in such a way as to feel alluded to, when it was totally not the case. And I am especially surprised because when I wrote the post to which you just replied, I think I made it perfectly clear that I wasn't referring to any particular persons at all.

Once again, the statement was in reference to folks who represent a subset of all forum users, but NOT in any way, shape or form to the folks who were selected as guest programmers.

P.S. Lynn sorry if I sounded a bit stressed just now, there's just been a few times when I try to make a comment with the best intentions and somehow it is misunderstood or maybe I just didn't say something clearly, I don't know. In either case, I thank you for at least trying to address what I was trying to say, even if I didn't explain it clearly in the first place or if you misunderstood what I was trying to say.
