  1. Where in Texas were you born, Jackie? I know the Austin/San Antonio area best, but also Houston and the whole southern border. I may not be a native Texan girl, but I sure have spent quite a lot of time all over the state. B-)
  2. > {quote:title=JackFavell wrote:}{quote} > This is a difficult challenge because many of the movies cross the boundary from one genre into another.... a movie could be a mystery or a film noir, and some horror films are also sci-fi......... There's quite a few movies that don't quite fit into a single category, and oftentimes they're some of the more original ones. I mean, *The Wizard of Oz* you can probably count as a musical or a family film, right?
  3. > {quote:title=eanm wrote:}{quote} > Anyone who has Encore Western, Jan. 23 is a Six Gun Salute to Randolph Scott. Guess I'll be missing that! But I know they don't always play them letterboxed, so maybe it's just as well.
  4. FF....no book signings....but there are negotiations for Heather Locklear to play me in the Made for TV movie. That would be cool. Any chance you'll make a cameo in the movie? We had a blue beetle! What a coincidence.....and yes, we used to rub that red dirt all over ourselves and play indian. Not very PC, I guess, and the red wouldn't come out of your skin for about a week after, no matter how many baths you had to take. We loved it. We had VW beetles too. I also had one when I was in college, a yellow one. It was a neat car! B-)
  5. I always thought it was cool that KC straddles two states. It's like the Berlin of the midwest.... sort of.... or maybe not. Well at least in KC they never had to worry about a wall dividing the city. Which Ford movie or landscape would you most like to be in? I mean, not really, because who would want to actually live out there in Monument Valley? But I mean, what movie is most appealing (for whatever reason, landscape, people, whatever) to you? Ireland seems quite lovely for me, personally. That's the one I would probably most like to be in. :x
  6. Very nice Garfield list, OneSharpDame. I could never put together a list for him and leave out *Four Daughters* even if it wasn't one of his largest roles, but it was his first and apparently the one in which he first caused quite a reaction at the time. But even though his career was sadly shorter than it should have been, he still made quite a few excellent films, including the ones you have chosen.
  7. I had no idea it was the first time she appeared on TV. How cool. I can't imagine how special it must have been back in that era to see movie stars you'd known for decades suddenly making their first appearance on TV. What an era!
  8. Don't forget to catch Capra's *Platinum Blonde* this Saturday night as part of the primetime Jean Harlow tribute! B-) *Platinum Blonde* (1931) A heartless heiress seduces a hard-working reporter into a disastrous marriage. Cast: Louise Closser Hale , Jean Harlow , Robert Williams , Loretta Young Dir: Frank Capra BW-89 mins, TV-G
  9. > {quote:title=clore wrote:}{quote} > I once read that even after he retired, Scott would visit the horse and bring treats. There's a scene in THE MAN BEHIND THE GUN where Scott is pitching woo to a woman who is a suspected insurrectionist. Meanwhile, the horse is behind him, nudging him and I get the impression it wasn't intended. > He must have liked that horse a lot! I like the idea of a retired movie star visiting the horses he used to ride in the Westerns he made. It's kinda cute! :x > But thanks for the help on putting up pics from an online source, that will help in the future. Anytime! It's always fun to see new photos. B-)
  10. Whew!! ( The hardback version of Rohanaka: My Life Back and Forth Between the State Line is on sale now at Barnes and Noble and other fine book stores everywhere!) NOW aren't you sorry you asked??????????? :-) Are there any autographed copies available?
  11. David Manners was in *A Bill of Divorcement* with John Barrymore
  12. I have a recording of *The Big Sky*, if anybody wants it.
  13. It's very easy - if the photo is already online, just add * Then at the end you just put in a ' *>* ' If the photo is on your computer, you can upload it to a site like Photobucket or tinypic.com B-) If that isn't clear enough, there's a whole thread about how to post images on the forums: http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=123944&tstart=0
  14. Well I didn't find your earlier post, but they are at the CES conference so I imagine they are getting all the latest titles. However a lot of the ones that are for older movies have already been mentioned, and a lot of the other titles are for newer movies, like *Monsters Inc.* and that kind of stuff. Sorry I didn't comment on *Pulp Fiction* earlier, it would be cool to have as I already have *Kill Bill* on blu-ray, and *Reservoir Dogs* is also available. But more than anything, what I would look forward to in 2009 would be an announcement like *Lawrence of Arabia* on blu-ray, or maybe the *Indiana Jones* trilogy.

Ah, the German word you're looking for is *wunderbar*. Sounds like you had a lovely time in Australia, it is also a place I would like to visit soon. B-)
  16. There is also a thread dedicated to Randolph Scott: http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=138792&tstart=0
  17. > {quote:title=JackFavell wrote:}{quote} > I had that battle over CGI when thinking about the animation part too. I just think that Toy Story was the most accessible animated film ever - you could be a boy or a girl and still love it.... > I loved *Toy Story* since it first came out, and I enjoyed *Toy Story 2* a great deal - one of the rare sequels that is as good, if not better, than the original. If it didn't involve Pixar, I wouldn't be looking forward to *Toy Story 3*.
  18. > {quote:title=movieman1957 wrote:}{quote} > Since itunes has reorganized their prices I figure I'm old enough I'll start saving some money when I buy something. I hardly fit the prime demographic. Did they really change their prices much? I haven't bought much music in iTunes recently, most recent thing I got was from Amazon France, because it wasn't available anywhere else.
  19. > {quote:title=JackFavell wrote:}{quote} > I feel bad about a couple of these - like The Third Man, or Witness for the Prosecution? or Toy Story over 101 Dalmatians? You shouldn't feel bad about those, Jackie. Your choices are terrific, imho! And personally, I would just have created separate categories for hand-drawn and CGI animation. They involve somewhat different artistic and creative criteria, I think. But that's just me - most folks just see it all as one single genre.
  20. There are a few more blu-ray titles for 2009 being mentioned in the digitalbits.com today. Many of them are relatively recent, personally I'm looking forward to *Pulp Fiction* on blu-ray. B-)
  21. I'll try and find my recording of *The Big Sky* and see if I can ramble a bit about the things I enjoyed about the movie... I still think it's a bit of an underrated western, although by no means one of Hawks' best movies.
  22. > {quote:title=gagman66 wrote:}{quote} > Lordy Mama!!!!! You OK, Jeff?
  23. Oh I think they're both very gentlemanly and wouldn't mind letting a girl do this: _Gloria Grahame_ *It's a Wonderful Life* *In a Lonely Place* *The Big Heat* *Human Desire* *Oklahoma!*
  24. That's a good line from *Valentine*, Jackie. Sorry you didn't get more into *The Big Sky*. I enjoy that one quite a bit even if it isn't by any means one of HH's best movies. Kirk is good, too, imho. Have you seriously never heard of Dewey Martin?
  25. Nice photo, mongo. Glad to hear you and your daughter had a good time in Atlanta B-)
