Forget those NYC guys. Take my advice and go to Scotland!!! The best men in the world are in Scotland. I used to meet so many totally self-centered players when I lived in DC. Leave those selfish city-boy losers behind and get on a flight to the UK! I went on a business trip to Glasgow that changed my life. I ended up meeting the man of my dreams there, moved there, and now we've been happily married for four years. I can tell you that most of the other men that I met when I lived there all seem to be wonderful to their wives and girlfriends and mothers, I didn't meet any "player" types.
In fact, my new fixation on Gary all started when I saw Mr. Deeds Goes to Town again a few weeks ago. I hadn't seen it since I was in high school, and I was so amused because Gary reminded me so much of my husband (not only his looks but also his sweet personality) that I wanted to see more and more of his films because it's like watching Andrew onscreen. I feel lucky every single day!

Hi everybody, I hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend!!! We were out of town.
-
I love it when Gary says "I'm appealing to you... Miss Totts". He is VERY appealing!!!
-
No, it's really frustrating to me today, too. And I want to talk about Gary, but it is sloooow.

Could be that I can't get Preston's character from Victor/Victoria out of my head! I think that was the first movie I ever saw RP in, but his performances were always wonderful, I just personally never understood why he played any romantic leads. Just watched a clip from Along Came Jones during lunch and Gary is so darn cute.

Waco in the summer does not sound like fun!!! Way hot and feels desolate. Maybe that's why it's good to get some Dr. Pepper as a break from the heat! Maybe it's just me, but Robert Preston's characters always seems a bit like they'd prefer to end up with another man instead of the female lead. I can't imagine many women choosing him over Gary, even though I enjoy his films.

Gary and Deborah Kerr look really nice together - lovely as an older couple in that photo.

Yes, having trouble posting here, too. Have you girls ever been to the Dr. Pepper museum in Waco? Another reason to visit Waco besides looking at the Branch Davidian site! That is funny about finding twins - Carol is really pretty! I just can't imagine your exact twin living as close to you as Gary and Slim. Even their lips are the same, looks like the same eye color and shape - it just seems a little too weird not to be related. I met my twin once and wasn't happy about it - a girl who looked very much like me was visiting our Baylor theatre department with a group from Australia and my boyfriend hit on her big-time right in front of me. She did me a favor, but it was weird to talk to someone who was kind of like looking in the mirror. You always want to think that you are unique, a one-of-a-kind!

I don't know... to me it looks like it's been airbrushed or adjusted a little bit- but maybe not. The eyes have had something done to them at least, painted in a bit, I'm pretty sure. But then again, maybe Coop's dad was irresistable too, and maybe it's possible that Slim was his brother? (I guess that's how rumors get started!)

I think they are messing with the site and the dupe posts must be a coding glitch they need to work out, hopefully they will soon.
Wish I had some Sauvignon Blanc right now! Drink a toast to Gary for all of us! I have a friend who used to teach at SWTX State U, my favorite teacher ever - do you know Rhonda Alves? I went to Baylor in the '90s also, very glad to get back to Austin after graduation, but then I went to Washington DC and moved around about every year after that until '03. In Virginia now.

Tags affect search engine optimization - meaning that particular words (terms) are singled out to help with people searching the net. Like the way I found this forum - I typed in "Gary Cooper Obsession" (which is what I felt I was starting to have and wondered if I was crazy and if there was anybody else out there) and voila! I found you all and feel much better knowing I'm not alone.
In that YouTube video, I love the way the scene dramatizes when he's on the cliff dealing with his emotional struggle. He is so irresistibly handsome in that uniform with his beautiful troubled blue eyes. sigh...

I thought it was just me since I was new to this forum or because I'm on a Mac or because I've never really used this kind of forum before - I can't seem to get any font variations to work or post images. Which I think is probably fine with Coopsgirl because of the gorilla/buffalo image thing!
Buffalo gal won't 'cha come out tonight, come out tonight... Butterscotchgreer, I'm no longer in Texas, but grew up in Georgetown/Austin. But I'm still a Texan girl at heart. In what part of Texas are you?

Hi Butterscotchgreer! Love Lauzi's video, even if it doesn't make sense. It seems like a current movie preview, which is fun. I wish it was a recent film! Some guys are so great they should be able to stick around forever. There is something about Gary that seems so modern. Others actors of that time seem to have things about them that date them to that period, whether it's a moustache style or wavy slick hair or something. But Gary has a timeless quality, makes it seem possible that he could be here now. You see photos of people from the 20s-30s-40s and they look different somehow, but Gary could fit into any time period. WIsh he were... okay, so I'm goofy dreamy about Gary today. Sitting in a coffee shop waiting for a client to arrive so I've got time to sit here and think about him! A group trip to NY to see the play would be fun someday. We could make up "Coop's Texas Gals" t-shirts and totally look like tourists!

Sorry, I know I'm off the last posting's topic but I am SO happy bc I just found this thread about Gary. Sexiest Man Ever! Love the photos posted here and looking forward to more chat about Coop.

Grrrr, If I could only get this reply button to work without hitting it ten times to get it to work....
Coops and Goddess - I completely agree with you on the London guy thing. A bit too proud of themselves to be worth wasting time on, and of course they are SO much more intelligent than everyone else on the planet! It's absolutely a city thing in most cases, although my husband is from Edinburgh - his mom did a good job, I guess! Your trip to Ireland sounds fantastic - I hope you go and that you have a great time!!! May you meet a charming Irish Gary clone on Milleneum Bridge!
I would say that while many Scots are careful with their money, many also like to have a good time and travel, they love rich food, expensive whisky and the women are VERY much into great clothes. Even our housekeeper in Scotland wore designer clothes and went on holiday to Spain often. Maybe I'm the perfect wife for a Scot because I like to save. But Andrew doesn't monitor my spending and seems glad when I splurge. I don't think Scots are "mean" (stingy) as they say, and Andrew would agree. He is constantly amused by the stereotypes people have of Scots in general. I think part of it is that the UK is an expensive place to live.
