  1. You can't make this stuff up. Trump has an actual Russian lawyer? Named Epsteyn??? This sounds like that - "My name is not Igor it is Egor" joke from Young Frankenstein. It appears that the Trump team thinks our election laws are a racket to be exploited.
  2. I was surprised that Goodbar has never had a region one DVD/Blu release. It is certainly a product of its time. I also think this is likely to be picked up by Criterion if it is picked up by anybody.
  3. This probably is an issue of Disney giving them a cut edition of the film. For some reason, for the last ten years, Disney has been stuck in a mode where they almost always churn out cinematic oatmeal, due to their over caution regarding their legacy. They have infected everything they touch - the Marvel films, the Star Wars franchise, and even Pixar. They are so cautious they have become mediocre. And that has become their legacy at this point in time - mediocrity.
  4. Could be. I know that a Congressional committee subpoenaing other sitting members of Congress is uncharted legal water. And things will end up in litigation in the case of any members of the Trump family being subpoenaed, because Trump has always used litigation to drag things out.
  5. Back in the 90s Directv gave us the local LA channels for some reason. There was always some program being interrupted for live helicopter coverage of a fleeing suspect - sometimes crashing, running, hijacking a second vehicle, crashing that one, running through backyards.
  6. Question - Why all of these invitations??? Why not just start out with a subpeona?
  7. OK, that makes more sense. Is that unusual? I've never heard of that being done before. But of course that doesn't mean that it isn't done all of the time.
  8. I'm not a fan of 1960s films in general, especially after about 1963. From about 1964-1969 films were stuck in two worlds, trying to add shock value by adding subject matter that by the 1970s just seemed routine. There are always exceptions of course.
  9. You'd probably have to be somebody who follows the Dallas Cowboys to get this, but here goes.
  10. Question: How can you compel someone to testify if they invoke their rights under the fifth amendment?
  11. Yep. The main problem with the latest wave of crime is that it is largely non-violent theft, so preventing gun violence really doesn't play into it at all. There has been a rise in violent crime too, but it is small compared to the tsunami of ordinary theft.
  12. I'll have a pack of gum and the tabby on the right.
  13. And in some people it plays out like amputation, multiple organ failure, and brain damage. And then they take up a hospital bed that somebody else with a non Covid related illness needs. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/01/20/surgery-postponed-delayed-covid-hospitals/
  14. Hmm. If you don't like repeats OR virtually unknown movies, then you must only want movies that are somewhat unknown and not shown very often?
  15. There was a DVD set put out a few years ago by Flicker Alley entitled "A Modern Musketeer" that had a bunch of Fairbanks' films where he had a modern dress role. It is worth picking up and watching if you can't find the films streaming.
  16. I really think that is just a gaffe, like when he said 2020 instead of 2022. Biden knows what year it is and that he is the president. What he says repeatedly that has me worried is that he thinks Build Back Better would decrease inflation. In what economy ever did unleashing a trillion dollars on the demand side without increasing supply lead to anything other than more inflation? This indicates that probably his entire administration believes this, which does worry me.
  17. I have noticed this trend of crazy drivers since the pandemic. I live in Northern Virginia, and overall it has a pretty affluent and rather pandemic proof economy. There are lots of federal government employees and defense contractor employees. I don't think any crazy drivers I've seen in this area are trying to bait anybody. I just think the continued social isolation of the pandemic has made drivers less concerned about others. The thing I wonder about is - as I see them driving on shoulders and changing lanes without looking - aren't they concerned about themselves? Even if it is a minor ca
  18. Another reason for this trend, other than the police, are the so called "woke" prosecutors that have been elected in large cities in the past few years who have it as part of their platform not to enforce the law. And people actually voted for their nonsense. One thing that several of them have done is to plead theft as opposed to robbery down to trespassing in every case. In some cases below some arbitrary amount no charges are filed at all. Word of this gets around and the criminals consider it open season in that jurisdiction. I have no idea if this is the case in San Jose, but it is defi
  19. "The U.S. Supreme Court rejected, 8-1, a request by former President Donald Trump to stop the release of presidential records pursued by the January 6 Committee, dealing a major blow to Trump’s months-long campaign to keep the records about the Capitol attack away from investigators. The presidential records are currently housed at the National Archives and Records Administration and with Wednesday’s order from the high court, that means that transmission of the documents to the committee could begin as soon as this evening. The Supreme Court refused to consider Trump’s appeal
  20. I realize that this is an old post, but I found a post of the TCM schedule for the first 10 days and I don't see Lylah Clare scheduled. After GONE WITH THE WIND on April 14 they ran SINGIN' IN THE RAIN (1952) plus deleted musical number "You Are My Lucky Star". "100 Years at the Movies" repeated. GONE WITH THE WIND repeated. SINGIN' IN THE RAIN repeated. IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT (1934) THE PETRIFIED FOREST (1936) THE CAT PEOPLE (1942) Friday, April 15, 1994: THE STORY OF LOUIS PASTEUR (1936) THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE (1946)
  21. If oil prices are up around the world, then it "makes zero sense" as you say to decrease production here and make prices even higher and life harder for Americans.
  22. Cat invades orchestra in Istanbul.
