  1. Some films on the moviecollector list were shown only once because they were mediocre - TCM showed lots of below average westerns in the 1990s. Some of them were shown only once because TCM made a mistake early on and aired something that they did not have the rights to. Still others were shown in the 90s but not later on because they have not been restored and today the poor quality would be unacceptable. Let me give you a suggestion of a Columbia film that aired only once, in January 2007, and in pristine condition. It is "By Whose Hand?" (1932). I have no idea why Columbia restored t
  2. I don't know about that, but Eric Adams is a retired NYC police captain, so I doubt that he is SHOCKED! SHOCKED I say! that when you make life easy for criminals that you just end up with more of them, and brazen ones at that. Given the political climate of NYC, I do believe it is going to take an African American mayor to convince the people that it is not racist to enforce the law.
  3. Cities around the nation did defund the police, and the cities listed in this article are controlled by Democrats. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/mar/07/us-cities-defund-police-transferring-money-community
  4. I will say that when I learned they were having a reboot I wondered how they would make that go over considering that everybody in the cast was getting long in the tooth by the time it went off the air. I remember J. Parker in an old network sitcom called "Square Pegs" where she is playing a high schooler. The year was 1982. So, yes, the original cast is getting up there.
  5. Can I talk about a small performance I hate? The drunk in Me and My Gal (1932). He interrupts lots of scenes in the first half and his act gets tedious and tiresome in about ten seconds. Maybe during Prohibition people thought this was funny. Every time he would reappear I would cringe. Fortunately he is completely missing from the second half.
  6. I don't think I've ever seen an entire episode of that show. But if they are shoe horning all kinds of diversity into the reboot for diversity's sake I would say I am not surprised. I would be more surprised if they didn't do that. Like a commercial I saw last spring - exactly once - where there was a family with a black man, white woman, and Asian kids running around the kitchen. They were selling... something. I don't remember because I was too busy trying to figure out how genetics could work that way. I never saw the ad again. If I saw a family like that out in public I wouldn't think an
  7. There were a variety of announcers over the years. What I assumed happened is that TCM thought that cutting the announcer would save some money.
  8. Now that is an argument with which I can agree. I don't like Trump. I didn't vote for him either time. I wouldn't vote for him if he runs again. But I do wish we'd get out of this hole we've dug for ourselves of wanting to elect octogenarians or near octogenarians for president. I'd like to see somebody younger get a chance. Andy Bashear, the governor of Kentucky, is a fresh and promising face, for example.
  9. TomJH...Blind partisanship??? Have you read your posts? Oh the irony!
  10. Bill Clinton may be history, but his wife still has delusions of trying to run for president again. Now, hopefully, she has been reduced to just crying online about the presidential victory speech she never got to make, but you never know. And it is important to keep Clinton's record of accusations out there, because the left wants us to believe that there was never a person who occupied the White House with any such accusation against him until Trump. And that is just not true.
  11. I don't have any knowledge based in fact that Biden is a sexual predator. And I guess it is predictable somebody would bring Bill Clinton up because he was as big a pal of Epstein as Trump. Unless you are saying all of the photos of Clinton and Epstein are photoshopped. And Bill Clinton also has a long record of alleged sexual assault going back to at least 1978. The advantage Bill Clinton has over Trump is that Bill has always had his wife as a not so silent enabler.
  12. I'll grant you everything you say about Trump, but don't forget Bill Clinton.
  13. There is a big difference between small children who may try to please by answering a leading question in a certain way, and girls who were adolescents at the time they were assaulted or molested.
  14. I've enjoyed post war Japanese films too. They are well made and interesting and also teach me something about Japanese culture.
  15. The Chinese are undergoing a historic military build up, claim to be ethnically and culturally superior, are putting people who are not Han Chinese into concentration camps, and demand their right to absorb other nations that are ethnically Chinese (Taiwan). Where have I seen this before...1930s Germany perhaps???
  16. The programming is not that different, but the promos at the end of the film remind me that in 2004: 1. TCM was not trying to sell wine 2. TCM bothered to have actual announcers for what was coming up next and what time rather than NEXT, THEN, LATER. 3. TCM had audio/visuals that reflected the classic film era rather than some weird swirling C and audio that seems like it is trying to provoke an epileptic seizure. The main differences in programming is that TCM is now partnering with Criterion so there is more international fare, and that is not a bad thing. Also, no Edd
  17. This is on the tail end of a movie on youtube. I don't know how long that movie will be up, but enjoy while you can.
  18. I have no idea why this would cause him to get hate mail. It really is his decision and he is not proposing forced vasectomies.
  19. You do understand how ludicrous it is to give handouts to people making up to 200K a year don't you? Is that now the poverty level?
  20. I imagine, from what I have read, that it is mainly a buffer against severe disease. I was largely quoting an article in my post.
  21. News from down under: "New South Wales reported 6,394 new infections on Boxing Day and 458 cases in hospital, with the health minister warning “we’re all going to get Omicron” and the Australia-wide tally reaching almost 10,000 cases. The case numbers in NSW are a slight increase on the already record case numbers reported on Christmas Day. “We would expect that pretty well everybody in NSW at some point will get Omicron … and if we’re all going to get Omicron, the best way to face it is when we have full vaccinations including our booster,” Brad Hazzard said. “The challenge
