  1. Sorry, the tabulations were late this morning. It seems that the moderators were trying to determine if there was "ballot stuffing" for a title that came out of left.field, YOUNG TORLESS. But they gave it a go.

  2. Tor for SOTM!!! That is such a stunningly good idea I'm thinking I may boycott the boards until it happens. Or maybe just start (launch? Create?) a thread titled, "Will Tor Johnson be SOTM for (excuse me, TOR) December?" I mean we haven't seen George Sanders yet, and that thread is kind of stale anyway. (no surprise).

Great idea! Tor Johnson was one awesomely huge star!

  3. Yeah, and on the B-side...IF OUR LOVE DON'T FIT, YOU MUST ACQUIT !

(...I'm telllin' ya, this baby has "hit" written all over it...especially on and around law school campuses)

I'm sure I saw in Billboard that the B side got enough airplay in it's own right that the."45" was considered a double-sided hit.

  4. BORN YESTERDAY ON THE FOURTH OF JULY:

Blonde showgirl,.played by Judy Holliday, has been a kept girl to big time tycoon Tor Johnson for over 7 years. Tycoon hires disabled Vietnam vet Tom Cruise to help her maneuver through the VA bureacracy, in order to see if Tor, an army vet in both world wars, qualifies for any of their programs for shellshocked veterans. Judy becomes so adept at cutting through the red tape.maze, that she is asked.to testify as an expert witness at a congressional.subcommittee on vetersans affairs, and to her witnessing the shabby treatment many ill and injured.vets suffer.

  5. Behind the Green Notebook

With Marilyn Chambers, Nigel Green, Richard Greene, Lorne Greene, Shecky Greene, and Ray Teal. Special guest star Tor Johnson.

Hard-hitting, penetrating look at the call girl industry. Johnson gives a tor-de-force performance as a journalist who stumbles across Chambers’ notebook of clients. He spends the rest of his life looking for trends among her selection of johns.

I bet Charlie Sheen.was prominent among them.

  6. I'm crying foul!  I was up the entire night doing searches for Young Torless and making notations and I simply cannot believe that it did not make the top ten Tor Searches.

Unless TCM did not update its web site and these results are stale?

How can we be assured that the top ten searches are the most current top ten searches?  We need to launch a study right away.

Hey I'm just the messenger. But there can be no errors in this scientific data; why, disserrations have been written following the viewer.search trends reported here.

  8. Did I bust the search engine, or something? I'm waiting for the results with bated breath. I hardly slept a wink.

You may have, since today's list is inexplicably exactly identical to yesterday's.

    1. TORSAKING ALL OTHERS

    2. THE TORGEOUS HUSSY

    3.

    4. THE BRIDE TOR RED

    5. TOR MODERN MAIDENS

    6. SUSAN AND TOR

    8. TOR DANCING DAUGHTERS

    9. ACROSS TOR SINGATORE

    10. TORCH SONG

    10. TOR BLUSHONG BRIDES

Oh well, no reason why this data cannot be used to determine trends among viewership patterns involving TCM.

EDIT: I forgot to post the list.

Btw, human error or intent can never factor into these list of pure scientific data.

  9. Another worthy candidate in that long list of worthies for Star of the Month is Don Ameche. Last evening's programming featuring several of his movies, including three from 20th Century Fox, where he spent a decade, offers a template upon which to build a month of Ameche movies. Obviously, it is doable, especially if enough of his titles from Fox can be leased. Additionally, several of the films done at other studios turn up regularly on TCM.

Ameche was a consummate professional, with his sonorous yet brittle speaking voice perfect for comedy or drama. He had a long career, punctuated by a late in life return to starring roles in the 1980s. Come on TCM, you can't go wrong with the man whose name became synonymous with the telephone.

  10. The Wagons Roll at Night of the Following Day.

Circus owner and TCM fanatic Humphrey Bogart kidnaps librarian, Pamela Franklin and forces her to research the trends of all screenings of Tor Johnson movies.

Don't forget the sequel, THE SNAKE PIT AND THE PENDULUM, where Bogart, sentenced to an insane asylum, escapes from there due to the director's experiments with the patients; Vincent Price is the director at the institution, and Bogart decides to break out with fellow with fellow inmate Olivia Dehavilland, who he helps recall the traumatic expereiences in her life. He leaves her as he again hunts the librarian played by Pamela Franklin, since her research for him is not yet done.

  11. TOPPER TAKES A TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL:

Roland Young returns as the hapless Cosmo Topper, deciding to give in to his wife's nagging requests to return to the town of her birth, to see it one last time. Mrs. Topper is again portrayed as the silly, simpleminded yet singleminded socialite by Billie Burke. Also in the cast are Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, as the harried if insightful chauffeur, and Constance Bennett, as the funloving, pranksterish ghost Marian Kirby, always needling Topper with her levity and mirthful ways. Unfortunately, Cary Grant's policy of not doing sequels precluded him from doing this, but in the casting coup of the year, Tor Johnson stepped in quite comfortably as the dashing and debonair ghost, George Kirby. One of the top hits of the year.

  12. The funny thing about that scene to me is the fact that the hat she is wearing is really kind of goofy...or it would look so on nearly everyone alive but Gene Tierney, who (of course) pulls it off impeccably.

You or I or almost anyone else would look like the gay Gordon's of Glouchester Fisherman in this hat, but Gene? Fabulous.

I wonder if Oleg did it for her...

Tierney's hat is a revival/update of the cloche, the ubiquitous 1920s helmet-like hat worn by women. I remember reading something a long time.ago that it resembled the cloches of 1928-29 (or something like that), in the wide brim it had. Elsewhere in LAURA, she wears another similar hat, in a dark color.

  13. I feel The Sound of Music is a film noir. After all, Captain von Trapp is an alienated figure, full of angst, isolated from society. The nuns are the gang from which Maria flees, the seven children the new gang Maria forms in order to subversively control their father.

And look at all the night scenes.

The song of the Lonely Goatherd is the equivalent of Maria singing a torch song in a seedy nightclub.

    Yodal-ay-hee-hoo.

Yeah, but does it have a murder?

  14. Ok, so the spotlight.on the great classic Tor Johnson-Joan Crawford love team by TCM paid off handsome didvdends, as many of their boxoffice hits made the daily listings.

  15. Arturo, have you seen two more beautiful people? I loved them together.

    057-tyrone-power-theredlist.jpg

I agree, although I think it's.a shame they never made any made any films.once Linda became.an adult; she was between 15 and 17 when they did their four films. Despite several near misses, they never did anymore after.he came.back from the.war,.and her image.had changed.from a sweet young thing to that of a femme.fatale. That could've beeninteresting.

  16. Well, if seems TCMs recent theme, Tor Johnson, Swashbuckler has seen several of those films spike into the latest Top Ten:

    1. THE TORSICAN BROTHERS

    2. THE MARK OF TORRO

    3. PIRATES OF TORTUGA

    4.

    5. THE FOXES OF TORROW

    6. THE FLAME AND THE TORRO

    7. THE TORSICAN BROTHERS

    8. PEYTOR PLACE

    9. THE SISTORS

    10. TOREVER AMBER

  17. I have almost every single one of those scheduled too.  Hard to tell if That Night In Rio will fit into my "Jungle" category, along with White Cargo.  Only one way to find out.

THAT NIGHT IN RIO is a musical, and as such, takes place mostly in a nightclub/casino. It is a remake.of.FOLIES.BERGERE, and has a game cast.which lncludes Don.Ameche, Alice Faye and Carmen Miranda.....plus glorious Technicolor.
