  1. Its been years since I've seen this Universal horror, so I can't place.that scene. I think I have tsped from AMC many years ago, but where do I have the vhs cassette. Hmmm....
  2. The mission church used in VERTIGO, San Juan Bautista, does not have the bell tower seem in the movie. It has had at least one before, but I don't know if it was torn down due to its incongruousness (it was added late.in the 19th century and didn't match), or done in by one of the many Magnitude 5 or 6 earthquakes so common there (San Juan Bautista sits along the San Andreas Fault rift, and that.middle section of the fault is not locked, like the northern and southern segments, but creeps and releases.fairly regularly timed.moderate quakes. Anyway, it now has a bell tower, rather more.like.a.bell rack, the kind known as an espadaña. The tiny town is not too far from San Francisco, and would.make an enjoyable day trip, if you're ever up there again.
  3. Another classic written and directed by Joe Mankiewicz, like A LETTER TO NO.WIVES (see below) is ALL ABOUT HEAVE. With a cast that includes Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, George Sanders, Celeste Holm, Gary Merrill and Hugh.Marlowe, they all recount the night when they met at 21, "where the elite meet", and they all had too many magnums of champagne and breadsticks. The each tell.when they knew for sure, that the uneasy feeling they had been building, was that they were about to be violently sick. Phoebe got her big break when both Margot and Eve were too sick to perform in Aged in Wood the next.night.
  4. Donald.Sutherland,.Stockard.Channing, even Will Smith are all excellent.in SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION. What a marvelous, serendipadous story.
  5. It reminds me of the bust done for publicity purposes to promote that film about a WW2 battle in North Africa, TOR-BRUK, when Johston was still pegged as the star. In one if those common games of casting musical.chairs in Filmdom, Tor, who had taken over when Laurence Harvey had dropped out, himself had to drop out, after not listening to advice that oysters were not in season to be safely edible at that point. It was deternined to hire soneone who someone who shared much of Tor's immense appeal, and Rock Hudson was.hired. A plus.was that the production company saved much money by adapting Tor's outfits for Rock; the excess material served to outfit all the extras in the battle sequences.
  6. Today I watched FIVE FINGERS (1952) on FMC, and a couple of days back I saw THE 13TH LETTER (1951), on a fairly poor quality dvd, which I only watch because of Linda Darnell. Anyway, Michael Rennie is in both movies. I started.singing, after each film, ROCKY HORROR'S opening number, SCIENCE FICTION DOUBLE FEATURE, with all the movie personalities it names,.starting with Rennie....... Michael Rennie was.ill The day the earth stood still But he told us where we stand.......
  7. I totally concur. Raquel Welch trumps Olivia Newton John. The best thing about XANADU is the Pan Pacific Auditorium, now just a (very beautiful streamline moderne) facade since.an arsonist NIMBY who didn't want it restored torched it in the 1980s........this is L.A. after all.
  8. Lisa Kudrow was very good in that, but I still love that she was one of the co-creators of Post-Its. She and Mira Sorvino were.perfect in ROMY AND MICHELLE'S HIGH SCHOOL REUNION, such a fun movie.

  10. As.much as I love Judy Holliday, and all the nominees, I would.also go with Gloria Swanson's magnificent performance, followed by Eleanor.Parker. I also wish more could have been nominated, including Claudette Colbert for THREE CAME HOME,.Linda Darnell for NO WAY OUT, Irene Dunne for THE MUDLARK, and Gloria Grahame for IN A LONELY PLACE. What an amazing year for female performances.
  11. Imo, I.think Doris.Day's least.appealing costar.was probably Ray Bolger in APRIL IN PARIS And I can't even tell.you why, since I like the guy, maybe just not with Doris.
  12. I always say, "If it.ain't broke,.don't.fix it".
  13. Earlier today, on one of the Spanish language movie channels.I get.through Directv, they aired EL.NORTE, without commercials. It had been a few years since I've seen this classic, and enjoyed if all over again. As timely as ever, it has some great writing and an excellent cast, including a great turn by the recently deceased Lupe Ontiveros.
  14. Such a sad development,.and now Omar.Shariff.
  15. Linda.Darnell, Jeanne Crain and Ann Sothern star in A LETTER TO NO.WIVES, in which the mischievous.Addie Ross relied on the unreliable USPS to send three wives a cryptic letter. The movie tells of the fun filled.day the wives spent volunteering to picnic.with underpriviledged children on the Hudson River the first Saturday in May, with not a thought by any of them of their husbands all day.
  16. Ginger Rogers in 42ND STREET, "It must've been tough on your.mother.not having any children". Yeah I know, it's in a frequently played.clip.on TCM.
  17. Great movie, great cast. Hope that's midnight.eastern time, so I can watch it all, instead of falling asleep at some point.
  18. Here's.a sleeper with,.among.others,.Geraldine Page, Gene Tierney and Dean Martin,.TOYS IN THE ATTIC (1963).
  19. Years later, they all.marched in unison (and not because they were soldier.ants or worker ants) to protest the treatment.of some of their brethren in HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS.
  20. Well that could.work lol. In Spanish it has a bullish connotation.
  21. She's a little more wholesome than what I prefer, but I never found her unattractive or untalented. In fact, I was kinda mad at her for not wanfing to do the sequel, but choosing STARMAN instead (if I remember correctly), although I liked her in that as well.
  22. That's.because he got.banned.from fhe CotTor.Club.
  23. This reminds.me.of.a quote.Bette Davis said re. Jayne Mansfield, durong her 15 minutes, " Dramatic art, in her opinion, is filling.out a sweater", or words to that.effect.
