Cannot find this in the TMC library. Who would have a print of this movie?

What is the name of the movie that the lead character is a detective named "Bill Smith? I believe it was released in the late forties. Other characters are a mom and her teenage children. The oldest son uses the word "gauntlet" as a meaningless expletive. The plot is about a murder that was committed in the neighborhood and the kids solve the mystery by determining the correct time of the murder. I saw this on TV in the mid 50's
