In Search of Good BHOWANI JUNCTION Trivia

"Think" is the operative word. I have doubts that very much in the way of thinking went into that labelling of Ben. -
Have you tried watching it a second time? I have no opinion to express as I've not gotten around to watching it. I have it in my collection, but haven't felt the urge to put it into the player yet.

If "censorship" is strictly a governmental activity, what then is "self-censorship"? I sometimes think or feel something unkind, unflattering - maybe even racist - that I have an impulse to speak out, but then I decide to not say it because of the effect it may produce. That would be self-censorship, would it not? Or am I misunderstanding the term?

I've seen about a dozen or so threads started for the purpose of complaining about Ben for some reason or other. That would be pretty tedious except they never seem to last that long. I think some have been shut down or deleted. No great loss, though - they're always pretty pointless. -
Lets name films that TCM doesn't show anymore

I don't think so. If it did, I musta been in a coma - it's my all-time favorite James Stewart movie and I've been waiting a long time for TCM to run it. -
Yep. Never boring. Among his memorable roles, I'll always favor his uncredited role as Proteus in 'Demon Seed'. He had the perfect voice for that and pretty much stole the movie with it. And I think he played the best Casca ever in the 1970 'Julius Caesar'. A bizarre moment that's lived long in my memory was in 'The Big Show' (1961) wherein he was eaten - head first - by a polar bear! Now, that's entertainment! To this day, I look for Vaughn movies to watch. Love that guy.

'Reflections in a Golden Eye' (1967). The first American movie to be unequivocal about a homosexual attraction.

Wow, Fred! You must be just about the happiest TCM watcher on the boards! Eighty percent of what TCM shows features at least a couple of those. -
Nope. That's not why.
-
But you define "argument" as someone simply stating an opposing opinion. Perhaps you'd be happier if no responses were allowed?
-
Well, Fred - you do realize that for some people there's no such thing as an "argument" that isn't big.
-
I'm curious - is this about the cream-of-the-crop in Bowery Boys movies? Or is there a better one?
-
Sleazy is a word I might use for Joe McCarthy or Jack Abramoff. But not for TCM mods. The orders are to keep politics off the boards for the sake of peace among the membership. It's hard to keep from discussing, I know - but we have to abide by the decision if we wish to remain in good standing here. As a parting shot, though - I believe that all compaints about "political posts" come from one particular wing and I'll give you one guess as to why that is.
-
Not in the least, no.
-
Does just the word "conservative" now automatically qualify as political?

'Bedtime Story' (1964) - starring Marlon Brando, David Niven, Shirley Jones. If it ever did show it. If so, bring it back. If not, it's about time. And yeah - I'd like to see 'Hot Spell' as well. -
He plays it to perfection as a suave and discriminating con man-gigolo in the 1964 comedy 'Bedtime Story', as well. A wonderful film that TCM never runs. I know you don't enjoy Brando much, but I think you'd like this movie. Niven and Marlon make great foils. Brando said that 'Bedtime Story' was the most fun he ever had making a movie and it was because of David Niven - said he was absolutely delightful to be around.

I've read the entire schedule. Ughh. When I react this way, it usually means lots of other happy members for the month. The 2 or 3 that actually interest me will probably not be shown up here - that's Canadian Murphy's Law.
