Far as I'm concerned, 'Walkin' After Midnight' is Patsy's very best song. I once saw some program about after-death experiences and the title was 'Walking After Midnight' - with Patsy's song a part of the presentation. I also remember George Harrisons 'Art of Dying' being on the soundtrack of the program as well.

A teenager could never do it, that's for sure.

Hell, no.

I ate it (and all other kinds of luncheon meat) when I was a kid. Mom made sandwiches with it for my lunch and I ate it. We were pretty poor and I was a growing boy with a large appetite. I still eat it sometimes. I have what's known as a poor person's palate. Even as a kid, I ate spinach and liver and anchovies and green pea soup. Never complained about food like other kids did. And no, I wasn't even a little bit fat. My kid is just like me. In first grade she'd ask "Daddy, can I have liverwurst for lunch tomorrow?" I packed the lunches then. She even liked anchovies on our pizza. Still likes all those things and I told her a little while back that she has a poor person's palate. She replied "yep".

I'm not much of a fan of country music (maybe some old classic stuff from the 40's, 50's, 60's) - but I sure love when Willie Nelson does the old standards. I've purchased his 'Stardust' album several times, and a couple of others. His versions are stripped-down and heartfelt.

No, it sure doesn't. Wish someone could convince today's pop fans of that - but most of them seem pretty impressed by it all. Oh, and by the wearing of short-shorts too. Gotta show those legs in their entirety, dontcha know.

And what does that tell us about the integrity of the award? That it's an industry contrivance for the benefit of certain approved people - and that, for other than those who profit from that contrivance, it's pointless. "Soma" for star-watchers.

No, you were right the first time. Her songs are terrible. She has a strong voice but she wastes it with a poor style of delivery on songs that come across as either boring or assaultive. I've found her music quite unpleasant so far.

Frankly, anyone who actually cares about the Oscars is just silly. Excluding those who stand to make money from them. Their care is understandable.

Harpo Marx?

Eastwood's 'Unforgiven' ranks very high with me. Very. I can't think of any better western than that. The torment of not being able to forget what a monster a man can be has seldom been better - or more chillingly - portrayed. As Will Munny continually slips into the remembrances of his past when speaking with his partner, it becomes clear just how unrelentingly haunted he is. As he lays dying of fever - "I saw the devil, Ned. He's got snakes eyes. Oh, Ned - don't tell no one - don't tell my kids - none of the things I done." A truly great American movie.

I very much like Robert Vaughn's voice. He voiced the computer 'Proteus' in the sci-fi thriller 'Demon Seed' (1977). I've always found that his voice sounds extra-intelligent while being oddly sedative, so that casting seemed quite adroit to me.

The Breen bunch probably had the copies burned.

Val Kilmer is my favorite 'Doc', followed by Jason Robards and Stacy Keach. My favorite Earp is Harris Yulin, followed by Kurt Russell and James Garner.

It could be seen as psychological horror. And quite effective - made me very uneasy. When the mask appeared on the bed next to his sleeping wife, I was chilled to the bone.

Is Close Encounters Of The Third Kind narcissistic?
darkblue replied to NipkowDisc's topic in General Discussions
well, your understanding is inadequate - one might say substandard. Even a rudimentary search for the word at dictionary.com would've alerted you to the basic meaning - that being: inordinate fascination with oneself; excessive self-love; vanity. Synonyms: self-centeredness, smugness, egocentrism. -
Is Close Encounters Of The Third Kind narcissistic?

Obsession with something outside of oneself is not the same thing as narcissism. Narcissism is believing that you deserve attention all the time because you are just that special. Narcissists have a need for attention and praise beyond what's usual for most. -
I once heard Bugs Bunny tell Elmer Fudd to "unlax".

Will do. Hey, are you THE Liza Minnelli?

Ow! My phreakin' ears!

Credibility? Shatner? Don't get me wrong - I'm very fond of my fellow Canadian and have found him immensely entertaining at times, but I've never considered credibility in terms of acting to be a strong point for him.

I said "since", not "as". No leading lady ever was as un-sexy as Allyson. But Reynolds comes pretty close - never did anything for me, ever. That shiny, plastic-looking face with the pronounced eye-socket bones was just not "it". Daughter Carrie, now - she had some sex appeal.

I just watched the movie 'Star Trek' (2009) last week for the first time and enjoyed it very much. I thought the guy playing Spock was especially good. Haven't seen 'Into Darkness' yet, but I'm looking forward to it more now.
