  1. There's a few real gems there for me - the one I'm most pleased about is Sterling Hayden in my all-time favorite "Phillip Marlowe" movie - 'The Long Goodbye' (1973) with Elliot Gould. The early 70's was Gould's most prolific starring period. Here, as the bemused private dick, I find Gould's laconic styling for Marlowe to be perfectly gratifying. Now I just have to hope that it plays in Canada when the time comes. Oh, and TheGayDivorcee was recommending 'The Last of Sheila' just a week or two ago - and presto change-o, here it is! Ex-cellent (tented fingers). Have I ever mentioned how much I love the movies of the 70's?
  2. Best eyes on a pop artist ever. Penetrating - and sexy as hell.
  3. Okay. Next time I skewer you I won't flip my tie.
  4. Because my kid said she liked it, I have tried. Several times. I just can't do it. I have not been able to put up with that thing for more than 10 minutes, tops. Has to be the most injudicious use of a laugh track I've ever experienced - it bursts forth every 10-15 seconds over absolutely nothing. It's as bad as the one they use for 'How I Met Your Mother', which I also haven't been able to watch to the completeness of an episode.
  5. All I know about 1001 movies to see before you die is that, if I were doing the recommending, 'The Island of Dr. Moreau' (1996) with Marlon Brando would be on the list. Love that movie!
  6. Afflicted, huh? And you get how many stations?
  7. Sorry. It's just that you keep setting me up.
  8. Grass has provided me with countless hours of feeling splendorous.
  9. Yeah, something tells me 'I Spit On Your Grave' or 'Ilsa: She-Wolf of the SS' won't be on the list.
  10. That's the second time you've mentioned a member jumping from that this week. You're repeating yourself.
  11. She was probably confusing him with Richard Pryor or something.
  12. Yes - and it also illustrates that sexuality can be complex, with hidden longings and conflictive impulses. There are many who do not want that to be acknowledged - who do not want it to be so.
  13. Yep. I just watched Peckinpah's 'Straw Dogs' from 1971 on DVD. That's one that gets a fair amount of hate from today's PC crowd, I believe. When I watched it at the age of 21, it shook me - but not for any PC reason. It's intense, reaching into one's subconscious fears about one's worth and capability - as a husband, as a man, as a civilized being.
  14. 'Daughter of Horror' (1955) It was originally called 'Dementia' (1953) but exhibition was disallowed by the New York censor board at that time (who the hell knows why - society was insane about keeping dark art away from our eyes). Wonderful movie. Here's IMDb's page on it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047976/reference Wikipedia also has a page - search for 'Dementia (1955 film)' to access it. The Rotten Tomatoes site has a couple of well-written reviews.
  15. That Richard is definitely a kindred spirit, Mr 6's. I like the way he writes - very readable.
  16. But weren't most of Doris' 60's movies about the leading man pursuing her sexually? Sounds a bit saucy for a 31 year old who'd find 'Splendor in the Grass' too "fresh".
  17. No. I don't watch AMC, so I can't imagine I'd watch MOVIES! either. I'll just keep searching for the unedited versions on dvd, on TCM, online.
  18. Actually, infinite1, I regret saying that to you. It was pure grouchiness on my part. I should've come back and deleted it but it slipped my mind. No excuse, though. I was offside and I apologize.
  19. And that is the MOST important thing about a movie. There's not much I hate more than boredom.
