Anything you post in a TCM forum can be commented upon. Those who don't wish their posts to be commented upon by the forum membership can always use personal messaging to express themselves to others on a private basis.

Exactly. Like "posts that derail", we're free to place our posts where we wish - we just have to be willing to absorb a little lecturing and bossiness from a certain type of person. Easy as cake.

Actually, I think it has more to do with how much better you've been behaving lately, Fred.

Heterosexuality is worthy of discussion now? I had no idea things had gotten that out of whack.

So What Happened to the Crosby-Sinatra Thread?
darkblue replied to TomJH's topic in General Discussions
That's a darn shame. Bing gives probably the best performance in that movie (of an impressive ensemble cast). Other standouts include Robert Cummings, Keenan Wynn and Red Buttons. For the life of me, I can't figure out why TCM doesn't show this movie - it seems like a natural for this movie channel. -
More than "You Light Up My Life"?

Good for the weapons industry. Different kind of "weapons" mentioned here as Rough Trade shouts "It's War" on this 1983 curiosity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izhlvH_-x84 -

Nope. A comment on the word I hear in American media more than any other. War on crime, war on poverty, war on Christmas, war on drugs, war on marriage, war on women, war on the middle-class, war on religion, war on freedom, war against Communism, war of words, war of opinions, war of the sexes, war....... well, you get the idea. Seems to be the favorite concept, if not the favorite word. You said you had me on ignore, so go pick a fight with someone else. -
December 21 Primetime and Late Night Schedule Still TBA
darkblue replied to HoldenIsHere's topic in General Discussions
There is no primetime on Dec 21 this year. We're all gonna experience one of those missing time phenomenons like what happens when people think a UFO has been close by. -
Yeah, well - Bing never got to duet with Bono.

I see. The English alphabet, and its attendant pronunciations, are all I know. It seems that a letter of it may be of the exact shape to look at as a letter of another language, but that other language may have an entirely different sound associated with the shape. As some of us English-only speakers might say, that's whack.
-
I'm with you on that - what on earth does a soft K sound like? Unless of course we're talking about the K that's used in "knife" or "knell" or "knight". They aren't pronounced at all, and I guess ya can't get any softer than that.

NoBODY is checking out Crosby's music. His movies, maybe - the 'Roads', the 'Bells of St. Mary's' and whatnot. But buying his records to listen to them (unless it's Christmas) - not. Sinatra albums, on the other hand, are still selling.
-
Remove seasonal Christmas from the equation, and I believe people will be listening to Sinatra for many more generations than will be listening to Crosby. Even with Christmas in the equation, Crosby's 'White Christmas' is already on its way to having all the artist recognition for listeners as most elevator music does.

I get it now!! If I reveal anything private, it won't spread beyond these boards! I wasn't actually worried about that - but it's disconcerting that I didn't get that until now (I just woke up). I have got to start getting more sleep.
-
?? I think I'm getting senile. Not following so well this past week or so.
-
But what about the bossy members who seem to feel it's their duty to reprimand us for our wandering ways? You wouldn't wanna put them out of business, would you?
-
What, and end up sounding like Lucille Ball? Wouldn't recommend.
-
Big Bad Bruce was clearly a satire on a certain effeminate stereotype. Late 60's release I believe.
-
Apparently, we were supposed to describe our "personal relationship to the movie".
-
Maybe everybody's wrong in calling anything anything. 'Vanishing Point' may not have been intended as a "cult classic" originally, but it has become that, in my estimation. I have no problem with it being scheduled in the 'Underground' timeslot.
-
Automatic filters have no intelligence behind their programming. They're idiotic.
-
Cult classics qualify.
-
And some people might even consider them to be fightin' words. One should always be conscious of that possibility.

That Linda Purl was such a cutie, wasn't she. She was in a lot of made-for-tv movies in the early 80's, one of which was 'Women at West Point'. I developed a crush on her from that one. She's still a very lovely woman, most recently seen as Pam Beasley's mom on 'The Office'.
