  1. I never would have guess that! (You're too independent for that sobriquet).  I somehow missed those moved threads -- don't know what they were, don't know where they were moved.

It was just the one thread that was moved - when TB didn't like us talking about the movie 'Decoy' in General Discussions. Bad decision to give in to him on that, judging by how much we all hate that they did. It was moved to the 'Noir-Gangster' sub forum.

Any posts that have been removed because of my reporting them were just posts by TB. Nothing special about them - just hateful things specifically said to me. I've always dealt with stuff like that by simply answering it in these forums, but because TB had such a bad habit of reporting others, I decided to give him a taste of his own meds. You haven't missed much - certainly nothing of value.

  2. I know who Skipper is but who is Little Buddy? I missed something here. (LOL)...

It's me, Hibi! I've been christened "the little buddy".

It's because I infuriated primos on Monday morning when I kind of agreed with james that she might want to not repeat so many posts about how TB had had a thread moved. It'd been days and days, after all.

Funny thing is - prior to setting her off with that small - and I thought, considerately worded post - she and I had been getting along pretty darn well for days - she was liking my posts with regularity. And believe me, that had been the very first time that she had done that. For years she hated me with a vengeance and it was kinda nice for that short time to not be hated anymore. Sigh.

Now she's pretending that because I took on TB and fought fire with fire by reporting his posts the way he'd done to others - and recently to me especially - that everyone's now in some kind of danger of me snitching on them. And she's only saying these things because of that tiny thing I said Monday morning in answer to james - and after him, to her.

Some tides really do turn quickly!

I really don't like being called "the little buddy". It certainly isn't appropriate in any way - not the least bit fair. But I don't really understand how to stop someone like primos from being the way she is.

  3. there've been several (maybe many) posts that have been removed after I've reported them

I've bet you have. You and the bully are like that, right Little Buddy?

    Right.

Quick, run to The Skipper and have this removed! Quick now!!!!!!!!

I don't know why you're so upset. None of your posts were reported that I can remember.

TB kept reporting me, and others, so often that I eventually decided he needed to learn that any two can play that game.

Your posts may be often hateful, but as long as you're not reporting others I think we can live with it. You're what we think of as a "character" around here.

  4. Funny, but when they were younger, I always thought they looked just like a couple of these little troll dolls here...

(...but then again, I suppose we ALL go through our little "awkward stages" huh!)  LOL

I remember when they were little - two of them playing one part on 'Full House' - I'd see them together on the Carson show. It looked kind of chilling - the way they'd sit there staring at him, answering together in unison. I remember one reviewer referring to them on one appearance, saying ,"Last night Carson had........ and those demonic Olsen twins".

  5. Although the title of this thread has the word "physically" in it I think there has to be some acknowledgement of a person's mental attitude about aging ( a lesson for us all).  While an actress like Barbara Stanwyck may have been blessed with some  good genes (as far as  aging well) and she also took good care of herself physically she maintained a positive attitude of herself and didn't seem to mind getting older and playing the characters that went with that. The people who go to the extremes to fight the aging process generally don't fare so well. There is a lot of peer pressure, especially for the women, to stay young looking and vibrant for the camera. It takes a lot of guts to stand up to that, just accept what you are and make the most of it. You'll almost always come out ahead in the end.

It's just that the ones who can't really act worth a sh!t - like Kim Novak, for example - may not feel they have the option of anything but trying to keep going for the romantic lead roles.

It may be that being a "movie star" rather than an actor makes for a precarious decision-making process.

  6. Hey, anyone catch inside edition tonite? some studio execs emails had some decidedly uncomplimentary things to say about angelina jolie. He said she had a raging ego and was a minimal talent.

Studio execs....... those are the guys you respect so much, aren't they.

  7. Many of the actresses mentioned in the lists, and some of the men, had "work done" on their faces.  Even Jack Lemmon had an eyelift near the end of his career (compare his last appearances with something like Glengarry Glen Ross).  Honestly, and personally, I think he looked better before the wide open eyes that made him look a little weird (to me).  Jane Fonda?  Sure, she looks great but, c'mon, she's had a boatload of work done.  The plastic surgery to make one look youger sometimes works, sometimes backfires.

You're right - that IS brutal. Shame on you, Christine.

  8. Personally, and with all due respect to everyone who participated, I think this thread is in bad taste. Is it anyone's fault for not "aging well"? That is the luck of the draw and due to a lot of factors that many have no control of. It is one thing to pull apart someone's performance in a film, that is fair game, but this is unfair.

While it may not be the nicest thing to talk about, it is a fact of life that we all "age badly" if we live long enough. Some are blessed with good gene's that see them through longer (generally) than others, and some engage in life-choices that greatly diminish the length of time that outward beauty is theirs - and it may not be the nicest thing about us that we like to gossip about these special people who filled our silver screens - but I don't think it's all that unfair. Most of those in the studio era are passed now, and anyway, it's all part of the deal - they get wealth, fame and privilege from the attention we give and we get to talk about them.

  9. I think moving a post to another section is like kicking someone out of a room for smoking and expecting them to come back again. It is not a very friendly thing to do, lol.

I think if it was for smoking, there'd be a lot more support for him. It's more like kicking someone out of the room for speaking about something that isn't on his agenda today.

  10. Of course I am a relative newbie here, and therefore do not have a full grasp of all the happenings on the board, but while reading this thread, the thought has occurred to me more than once that perhaps said person in question is a moderator, and can therefore do what he or she wants (within certain parameters), while ignoring, or perhaps even deleting, everyone else's requests for intervention.

    Just a thought.

Over the past few weeks, there've been several (maybe many) posts that have been removed after I've reported them as the trollings they were. Seems unlikely that he's an actual moderator. However, I don't think there's much doubt that he's inculcated an ongoing communicative relationship with administration.

  12. It has been my experience that reporting one particular poster to Moderators is futile. I have reported incidents of offensive statement re: religion, inappropriate political comment and a personal attack and Moderator neither removed the posts nor explained why that one poster is exempt from code of conduct. My placing that poster in: 'Ignore' queue is only remaining option. I do not suffer fools gladly and I do not need such aggravation in my life.

Since the upgrade happened, I've found the response to reports to be somewhat of an improvement over past years.

Nevertheless, that last sentence (about fools and aggravation) is easy to relate to. Not that some fools can't be entertaining sometimes.

  13. By 1967 LBJ said he didn't want to be President anymore and was gone and a year later and we entered the magical year of 1969.  We read in The New York Times that God is dead. We woke up, went to Woodstock, tried  LSD and bought The Beatles White Album.

    Good times.

  14. I saw 'The sure Thing' once, back in the 80's. I remember just one scene - to do with shot-gunning a can of beer. I know I enjoyed it - it had its charm - but little else about it.

Gonna record it tonight and give it another look.

  15. Isn't it interesting how those shows we sat in front of, entranced, have not held up well?

Mr. Ed, Gilligan's Island, Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, I Dream of Jeanie, Bewitched, The Munsters, The Addams Family - oy gevalt.

Of those, the only one I liked was 'The Addams Family' - I dug Astin and thought Jones was sexy. As for 'Bewitched', I'd watch that from time to time because I thought Elizabeth was the most beautiful woman on television and just wanted to look at her.

The rest were brainless and had no hold on me of any kind.

Well....I will say that Fred Gwynne as Herman could make me laugh sometimes if I happened to catch a few minutes in passing.
