Guess you missed the subtleties of the post.
Guess you missed the humour of my response.

Wish I could watch Svengoolie. Always liked horror hosts.
Don't get it up here.

Bless you, darkblue-- have a good day posting at TCM City!
It would be most pleasant if that meant you were leaving for the day.
-
I think I was offering up an observation about online posters at large.
I think you were confessing - possibly unintentionally.
-
That is how I see it.
I don't believe that for a second. Nobody who's been here for any length of time does.
-
because we have posters who have spent years online and have learned how to subvert the posting policies of TCM City and bully others.
You're very self-aware, aren't you? One could conclude that stating your modus operandi so openly is an example of feeding one's delight in rubbing people's noses in such habitual and guilefully placed trollings.

Sounds like an unnecessarily harsh view.
Actually, it's a perfectly reasonable reality - not a "view" in any sense.
I'm aware that some people would like to be able to say anything they please without ever receiving feedback that's not to their appreciation. That being the case, I believe such people would be far more suited to writing blogs than to participating in discussion forums.
In such discussion forums, if you say something disagreeable you should not be surprised when you receive disagreement. Quoting keeps such activities clearly understood by the members who read these posts.

I like discussing noirs, don't you darkblue?
Not particularly.
-
If you don't want to be quoted for the purpose of disagreement, try not to say anything disagreeable.
Otherwise, suck it up. Anything you say in a public forum is subject to comment. That's the deal.
-
How about 'Decoy', james? Did you see 'Decoy'?
-
Have you seen any other film noirs lately, james?
-
Hey, anyone want to talk about old classic movies??
Go for it.
-
But I think it's getting worse again for some reason.
Gosh, I wonder what it could be.

"It says more about what's on your mind than about the films shown on TCM."
Here's an interesting note - a study at Western Illinois University addressed the connection between social media and narcissistic behaviours. Study results confirmed that forums (ie: Facebook and others) provide the perfect environment for narcissists, who have “a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration and an exaggerated sense of self-importance.”
Remind you of anyone?

Bless you always, TopBilled.
Thank you, Father.

I have found it most useful to use: 'Ignore' feature of forum. There are posters who are excellent at provoking others and yet their own posts walk the fine line of not quite so insulting as to become target of moderator. It is by placing those posters in: 'Ignore' list that I avoid temptation to provide information on how bigoted and self-righteous they are....
But you do realize that you've left some of us to fight the good fight by bringing such nefarious activities to the attention of the powers that be without your engagement?
Of course, many of us could simply use the ignore feature as well and join you in paradise, I suppose.
But I won't. I'd feel like a deserter.

Let's lobby for a "Navel-Gazing" board!
Well, okay - but I'll only gaze at the navels of our female members.

As far as I know, both of them were very sexually oriented.
I think we're supposed to say sexually asianed now.

Let Bopper learn how to make friends without being his enemy. Thank you.
Maybe you could teach him. Heaven knows you have more friends in TCM's forums than anyone could possibly count.
-
I don't want to hurt your feelings so I will try and word this with that in mind. Do not quote me or post about anything I write. If you need to confront somebody find somebody else.
Anything you post in a TCM forum can be commented upon.
Those who don't wish their posts to be commented upon by the forum membership can always use personal messaging to express themselves to others on a private basis.
-
If you're asking related to 'where should I place a topic', first I wouldn't worry too much about that and I'll let those that do care address that.
Exactly. Like "posts that derail", we're free to place our posts where we wish - we just have to be willing to absorb a little lecturing and bossiness from a certain type of person.
Easy as cake.

With this new system, and the system of locking threads and deleting threads, we've had a lot FEWER fights on this board, and that is GOOD.
Actually, I think it has more to do with how much better you've been behaving lately, Fred.

According to a recent poll, we should be discussing the sexual orientation of Crosby and Sinatra, and not their singing and acting abilities.
Heterosexuality is worthy of discussion now? I had no idea things had gotten that out of whack.

Having participated in the Programming Challenge, I actually don't find that there's much interest in that, as evidenced by the number of votes cast: almost always single digits.
The Challenge is maybe too complex for most of us. It requires one to have a very good memory of the movies one has seen, as well as the analytical skills necessary to break down themes and other connections. And one needs to have seen a great many movies to come up with these lists.
Additionally, one needs the writing talent to express one's reasoning and analysis, as well as the willingness to expend all this effort. As a poster with very little talent - and an absolute dislike of expending effort - I've not been tempted at any time to engage.
I consider the members who do engage in the Challenge to be the cream of the crop of TCM posters. I very much admire their willingness to share their movie knowledge as they do.

There's one Castle I haven't seen since I was 15 years old (1965) - how I'd dearly love to see it again, but it never seems to be played anywhere where I can get it.
It's 'The Night Walker' (1964)
