And you won't - because it's called 'A Guide for the Married Man'. Robert Morse and Walter Matthau lead - love that movie! PS. The first of the "Billy Jack" movies was in '67. It was called 'The Born Losers' and it was a huge hit in Toronto. Saw it at a midnight showing of its premiere and the packed house loved it.

Try not to wander into a ditch. -
'The Incident' was also '67. 'Night of the Generals' too. And 'Waterhole #3'. And 'Reflections in a Golden Eye' - that was the one that forced changes to the ratings traditions. And 'Point Blank'. And 'Valley of the Dolls' And 'Wait Until Dark' 'And 'Hombre'. I could come up with others. What a year!

No wonder she sounded dumb. She was saying it wrong. It's yip, not yup. -
She sure was good in 'The Sound and the Fury' (1958) - same year she did 'Long Hot Summer' wasn't it? Super character actor!

There's a little scrolling, yes. But not much - and it's better than clicking on another spot and having to go to another page. Hey, I've said it and I'm not gonna unsay it - I like the way TCM is set up. I have no problem at all and think that people who keep insisting they do have a problem are overstating it considerably. I was able to adjust to it within a minute or so. It's been two years and some people are still going on about this? It's easy, people! -
I guess that's what DGF meant by "intentional"? Sure made a lot of movies anyway. Quite a busy actor she was. Kids or no kids, Paul was and would still have been the bigger star, so it's a moot point in terms of intentionality. The "back seat" as DGF denotes it was decided by the paying public.

Was she wearing a flight suit with a giant cod piece when she said it? -
That 1967 was a watershed year for filmmaking! There'd been signs of the coming "new Hollywood" since '63, but in '67 it exploded with a plethora of really excellent movies with a whole new non-traditional esthetic. 'In Cold Blood' is but one excellent example of that.

Didn't see a uhf dial until the 70's. Shortly after that it was on to the Jerrold Converter and dials may as well have not have existed anymore.

Then what's in all those little brown bags I see most of the men there hiding in their pockets? -
I asked my dad that very question. He didn't know.

You believe everything you read? I suggest using your common sense to figure it out. Lots of people would say "let's see the new Paul Newman movie". Fewer would say "let's see the new Joanne Woodward movie". Nothing she could do to change that.
-
Doubt that. Newman was better box office, that's all. If it was her that had been better box-office, you might be saying he took a back seat to her. It was what it was - they got what they got. The paying customers decided, not Woodward. It's not like she didn't work - she was a very busy actress from the 50's to the 70's. Lots of movies. I don't call that taking a back seat.

Yup? I think all the Gary Cooper talk is affecting you, missw. -
She retired from film-acting, yes. Or semi-retired, if we prefer to think that way. That she did so when she was still on top in terms of box-office and fan adoration, is impressive. Came out of retirement briefly to do a movie with Connery. I guess, considering she did what she wanted to do, she had exactly the career she wanted to have, which is a pretty darn perfect career trajectory.

You surmise incorrectly. I understand perfectly. Unlike you, I have no problem with most recent first - I find it better than the original post first layout. I understand you have a problem: you just can't adapt to it. -

Been in many forums over the past 16 years. I prefer most recent post first like it is here. It's easy, so it's a mystery to me that you have such an issue with it. -

I don't think it's unfair to just admit you don't care for an actor. There is sometimes no explanation for it, but the face, the voice, something, just doesn't work for a person. Not everybody likes everybody the same. Like Meryl Streep. It would be foolish of me to state that she has no acting talent - yet I've never enjoyed watching her in any movie. I just am cold to her and I don't know why. Maybe a past life thing, I don't know. Apart from 'High Noon', I've always found Cooper to ne kinda boring. It's difficult for me to honestly appraise his talent because I'm bored by him. Like with Streep, I can see them going through the motions of acting - saying the words - acting sad or happy or angry, but for whatever reason I tend to be unconvinced - unreached. Chemistry. It's a mysterious thing. -
Just so long as the schedule is limited to channels 2 through 13. That's all the dial ever allowed for.
