  1. Some people age better than others. My ex mother-in-law is only 75 and she's nuttier than an almond joy.
  2. You expect Fred to make sense, Dargs? C'mon, he's like 95 years old or something.
  3. But far more people a great disservice, don't you think?
  4. Anyway, we don't have to drive it. Honey, we can park it out in back..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y56S9vIuODo
  5. I was beginning to wonder if you were all gone.
  6. Not always easy to do when your up against a performance as awesome as Stanwyck's. Certainly one of her best.
  7. I thought I already did - 'inherently morbid' is enough of a label, I would've thought.
  8. Well, this is an inherently morbid thread.
  9. The last time TCM ran 'Kaleidoscope", it was window-boxed. Today it was run widescreen. Thank you TCM.
  10. 'The Patsy' (1964) is my choice for his best work. I don't understand why TCM has not shown it - it's the most perfect film it could show, considering all of the studio era performers that are in it (George Raft, Peter Lorre, Rhonda Fleming, John Carradine, Everett Sloane, etc). I don't think Lewis has ever been more likeable or genuinely amusing than in this one.
  11. Oh, those "silly hippies". Boy, that Elizabeth was one attractive chick, wasn't she.
  12. Turner Classic Movies is by no means whatsoever a "misnomer". It's a remarkably excellent title for the station. And any movie at all can be a classic to somebody. People who try to argue misnomer are just belly-achers. Malcontents who live to complain.
  13. My accepted definition of the term says they are classic. Other people's accepted definition of the term is irrelevant to me.
  14. I have seen 'Man on the Moon' - and Carrey's performance as Andy is terrific. I don't think anyone could do justice to that role any better than Jim Carrey. If Andy had been more popular, Carrey might have won an Oscar for that.
  15. I'm one of those rare birds who just couldn't get enough of Andy Kaufman - and I don't mean in his role on 'Taxi'. I mean his fascinating "reality" plays in life that so perplexed the world. I think I remember every single time I saw him on anything, anywhere, and how I would just watch him incredulously - not quite sure if what I was seeing was real or not. But never bored by it. Always transfixed. I wish I had taped it all. Every appearance. Every bit of it.
  16. This is one movie I truly love. Strangely love? So much so that I read the novel after seeing the movie a couple of times. I've come to realize how truly peculiar Yul Brynner is for a Hollywood A-lister. That foreign voice. That unequivocal masculinity. That bald head. Hey, maybe that's why 'The Sound and the Fury' is my favorite Yul Brynner performance! The hair! I so admire the character of Jason, without whom that family would be out on the streets, and his determination to keep them up even though their weakness and pettiness is probably undeserving of it. The tough as nails boss of the family, unappreciated and misunderstood, gifts them with enormous love that they cannot seem to see or thank him for. Although the movie does end on a hopeful change to that attitude from the young Quentin after his wisdom (and sacrifice) saves her from a regrettable decision. A lot of people poke fun at 'The Sound and the Fury' movie. But I think it's exquisite.
  17. I used to have this album. Wonder what ever happened to it.
  18. Oh, wow! Mashing together threads! What'll they think of next?
  19. Has everyone noticed that misswonderly's thread on the subject of how the spam bothers her, which was getting some pretty fair discussion, has mysteriously vanished? That seems pretty weird. Was something said in there that isn't supposed to be said?
  20. He's had plenty of tribute days. Not necessary to do one every year.
