It's not like you're Liz Taylor or something.
Liz was a someone, not a something.

I'm glad they've started showing the newer classics.
This month has been absolutely outstanding! Best month I've ever seen of TCM programming.
Only way it could have been better is if they'd managed to get some Universal Monsters instead of Hammer for Halloween season.

darkblue connotes nothing.
Colour of my eyes for one thing.......

I think the British version is better and as I said I think some crucial things are left out. It might have been some stupid producer interference as usual. It's always amazing when you hear what a film was planned to be or who the stars were supposed to be and how it got changed for the better or worse. Shirley Temple as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz?! eeek.
All I know is that I haven't watched 'Curse of the Demon' specifically because I know that it's a butchered version of 'Night of the Demon' (which I also haven't seen).
I just keep waiting for 'Night of the Demon' to show up. After I've seen it, then maybe I'll watch the Americanized version.

Know very much about this subject, or about anything?...I found THE PRODUCERS to be funny, but I don't think many Holocaust survivors did....Did Vic Hitler do Nazi jokes?
About what's funny; about "holocaust survivors"; about anything; about me.
Take your pick; take them all.
I don't care what you say - Vic Hitler is a funny name. Cracks me up.

I heard a story of Burt Lancaster being incensed by Lee Marvin's drunken behaviour while making this terrific film. I guess he found Lee to be less than professional. In any event, the story goes that Marvin smartened up only after an enraged Lancaster grabbed him and held him dangling over a cliff of some sort, threatening to drop him if he held up production again.
I don't know if this tale's true but I sure love to think so. The lesson here - DON"T make Burt Lancaster angry!
Entirely believable. Drunks are not very good fighters, no matter how good they growl.
-
If you were a Holocaust survivor, you wouldn't find it so hilarious.
Says you, but I don't think you really know very much.
I bet I would - I just have that marvellous a sense of humour.
I'm probably a lot like Mel Brooks that way.
-
Now, that's puttin' on a show!
At least, it was for that time.
-
I think he heeded a name change. Laughter is not associated with the name "Hitler". He should have changed his name to Vic Parkyakarkus.
I think Vic Hitler is a hilarious name!
-
I thought you meant Vic Hitler, the unsuccessful comedian on "Hill Street Blues".
The narcoleptic comic. Almost made it big, ay.

In Hot Topics, we now have gobbledygook.

Hot Topics?

Chandler was pretty cool looking. I was always bemused by his white hair - so different from other leading men.
I wasn't a huge fan of his movies, but there was one I watched on the late show around 1962 while I was on a really boring baby-sitting gig (big family always putting me to work sitting my dozens of younger cousins) that made my night - it's 'The Plunderers' (1960). Still my favorite Chandler movie. I wrote something at IMDb for it.

Hey Fred, it's Underground (& I haven't cared for many of its' recent showings)
but that's why we keep other recordings to watch...
Right??

He didn't even see it. He's gotten to the stage now where he rants against even the stuff that's on too late for him to stay up for.
-
Is it ok to look at drab men for two hours?
I doubt that Fred would understand the question, missw.

I like the slightly menacing sound. A good Halloween song!
It's hard to believe it's been like 7 years since I first saw them perform that song on Conan. I'm talking about the old Conan late-night show on NBC.
The rhythm grabbed me quickly and it took a couple of minutes for it to register on me that the singer seemed to be chanting "satan, satan, satan, satan" insistently but melodically (and it registered to me as satirically, not seriously) - and at least two of them were hopping and bopping all over the stage. I thought "what the hell are they singing about?"
I loved it - it was joyous - and I immediately wrote down the name "clap your hands say yeah" on a notepad file - and then generally let them slip my mind.

I just watched "The Cowboys" and enjoyed it immensely. Terrific screenplay and John Wayne's best genre The Western. Also it features Bruce Dern - one of the best actors ever - and the character you truly hate in most all of his films. Also Roscoe Lee Browne and Colleen Dewhurst. Haven't seen this film in quite awhile and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The only John Wayne movie I actually like. Robert Carradine plays the character I enjoy best, though Bruce Dern pretty nearly steals the whole movie.

Here's a good one to spin to, DGF.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's 'Satan Said Dance'
I chose a live version to post. Studio version is pretty awesome for your ipod.

Hmm . . . perhaps TCM could find a promo for the 1987 sleaze-fest BLOOD DINER. Directed by a female: JACKIE KONG ('Night Patrol', 'The Being', 'The Underachievers').
BLOOD DINER is a movie for 'foodies'! It's a pleasant little un-rated film with some of the most god-awful acting you'll ever see and Jackie throws in a few references to Hitler among all sorts of other tasteless material. (There's a wrestler in the movie named 'Little Jimmy Hitler' who gets a chunk bitten out of him by one of the protagonists who run the 'Blood Diner' + there's a tidy group of musicians who are decked out as Der Fuhrer in the final party scene where the goddess Sheetar is to be resurrected).
I think BLOOD DINER would be loads more fun to watch than SUFFRAGETTE.
Always trying to get your favorites played, huh?
Nothing wrong with that, I guess. You and Nipkow are kinda like peas in a pod that way.

‘Suffragette’ Movie Review: Domestic Terrorist or Proud Feminist?

So now we're supposed to cheer for films to fail because they were made after 1960? That's an interesting concept.
Emily must be a Republican.
I don't get it? What's supposed to be the connection between one being a Republican and a post-1960 movie? Or the movie SUFFRAGETTE in particular?
Who's more miserable and wanting something new to fail than a Republican?
Get it now?

How did this political discussion get up here?
Well, it started with DGF's post when he responded to Helen when she asked what is there to say?:
Well, you can "vote".
and then was followed with his response to missw asking him if he had:
Exercising one's right to vote is the backbone of a democracy.
See how easy it is for a simple, average, non-nefarious conversation to turn to something political? It's a natural aspect of social interaction.

From 1970's seldom referenced 'Tumbleweed Connection'

There are a few tired threads on these boards that keep coming back that I would classify as spam.
If only our moderators would do something about those.
Locking would be wonderful. An annoyance for most of us being addressed is probably too much to even hope for.

TCM not so classic anymore?

Sounds more like 'Dracula: Prince of Darkness' (1966).
