  1. I'd recently had my entire post deleted when I'd said that the moderator censored words that even young people used.

We're not allowed to comment on what the moderator does - that's why your post was deleted. At least misswonderly's was only shut down - which is almost the same as being deleted, except it takes a couple of extra days for it to sink from sight, rather than being ripped out all at once.

  2. With of course the major difference here being that the slogan "You're either with us or against us" is not only much more a divisive slogan than "Yes we can", but the latter here wasn't used in efforts to START A NEEDLESS, GIGANTICALLY COSTLY AND COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE FREAKIN' WAR!

Counter-productive is putting it exceedingly mildly.

Without even getting into the trillion dollars wasted, the thousands of innocent lives lost, and the millions of lives thrown into a state of horrendous suffering, the net result was what we see now in that region  - destabilization (understatement), utter turmoil, and an enormously more dangerous world for everyone.

The Bush/Cheney administration has so much to answer for it'll be impossible to ever get justice for it.

  3. Nah! C'mon now, dark! Doncha think it might've been MORE the case with those Dems that they didn't want to appear "unpatriotic" to the electorate by voting against that REALLY STUPID FREAKIN', COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE, POWER VACUUM-CREATING INVASION OF IRAQ?!

'Cause aaaaah, DESPITE as that crap they NOW say about the "Administration "misleading them", I REALLY think that THAT'S why they all capitulated to this BONEHEADED FREAKIN' MOVE!!!

(...nope, those gutless Dems in question here weren't swayed as much by any "corporate interests", they were just TOO GUTLESS to speak out and dare mentioned WHAT a boneheaded move it would be and against all the freakin' FLAG WAVERS after W got 'em all fired up, THAT'S ALL!!!)

I said they were cowards a couple of posts ago, didn't I?

And if you don't think the War Machine is run by Corporate America and is ready at all times to take advantage of absolutely anything, real or made up, to enrich it (cough...Haliburton...cough), you're not paying close enough attention.

  4. Guess who also voted YES to go to war in Iraq......

Joseph Biden- our current Vice President under Obama.

John Kerry - our current Secretary of State under Obama.

Harry Reid - Former Senate Majority Leader and ally of Obama.

Hillary Clinton - The Senator and former Secretary of State under Obama now running for President.

They wanted that war as much as anyone, lol. Voting "yes" were 29 Democrats and 48 Republicans.

Nobody said most elected Democrats weren't cowards back then. Most of them still are.

  5. The movie is airing as part of the tribute to Sidney Lumet.

    The following movies are scheduled:

    DEATHTRAP

    RUNNING ON EMPTY

    THE VERDICT

JUST TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT

    BYE BYE BRAVERMAN

Deathtrap and The Verdict are available at my library, so I won't be recording those. I will be recording the other 3, but I had to erase Running on Empty last time because it was edited - so here's hoping for a different result this time.

  6. How many is Canada taking in??

    http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadas-immigration-reputation-charting-the-conservative-governments-commitment-to-taking-in-refugees

Between January 2014 and Aug. 24, 2015, Canada has resettled 2,374 Syrian refugees. About 26 per cent were government-assisted refugees and roughly 73 per cent sponsored privately.

“It’s basically a matter of who’s footing the bill,” says Janet Dench, Executive Director of the Canadian Council for Refugees. She takes issue with the Canadian government taking credit for resettling refugees when, by and large, it’s private citizens who are sponsoring and supporting Syrians.

Canada has a fascist government at the moment - and for the past decade. Conservatives, ay.

This happens every so often. People forget how much better the country gets under our more center-left Parties like the Liberal Party and its shadow, the New Democratic Party - and do something stupid and regressive like elect too many Conservatives to Parliament.

  7. The issue is and always has been ILLEGAL immigrants.   I'm A-OK with taking in refugees as long as they follow the established legalization process.   I say the plan should be that for every illegal immigrant that agrees to self-deport and does so,  the USA takes in a legal refugee.

Refugees will quickly become a much bigger issue than it currently is - as Germany is discovering right now.

I read a truthdig piece a couple of days ago that guessed there'll be another million on the way in short order. With ISIS terrorizing so much of the middle-east, I think this could prove to be just the beginning. Democratic countries will be facing a hard choice as regards their humanitarian impulses if it is.

I forget where I read it, but one commenter was taken to task for saying something like "this isn't a migration, this is an invasion". Who knows - our softer impulses tell us "these people need our help", and yet there is a nagging, cynical suspicion within me that ISIS has planned this very thing to happen. How better to spread Sunni Muslims throughout Europe than to drive them to it as refugees?

  8. The economy and the debt are always worse after a Republican administration.

There's a nefarious reason for this - when Republicans hold power they always spend freely on everything they want - most often the war machine and the prison state in addition to lowering taxes for themselves and their wealthy bosses, deliberately creating a handcuff situation for the Democratic administration they know will follow.

This strategy gives Republicans every opportunity to take advantage of the painstaking improvements Democratic administrations are forced to make in a necessarily corrective term or two (or more, if they'd ever get the chance), while - having driven the debt into ridiculously extreme straits (gaining nothing to show for it in terms of ever improving the lives of average citizens) - depriving the Democratic administrations of the funds to make actual progress for the country.

It plays that way over and over again.

  9. But then again on the FLIP-SIDE here dark, depending on WHAT they might be exaggerating about, it CAN somethings be rather beneficial to their lover's public image, ya know!

(...sorry...sometimes my usual "glass half-full" persona is just too much for me to restrain, ya see)

    you go, girl!

  10. OK, here's another angle on Z Pizza. And by the way, the "do-gooders" were the voters of Seattle. The minimum wage increase was an initiative.

    http://civicskunkworks.com/z-pizza-the-15-minimum-wage-and-what-q13-fox-didnt-tell-you/

"As to Shah Burnham’s claims that she’s “terrified” her employees will have a hard time finding work, she can rest easy: Working Washington yesterday published a list of 14 Seattle-area pizza places that posted job openings to Craigslist last week alone. Z Pizza’s employees, if they want to stay in the same field, will likely be able to find work fairly easily. In fact, they’ll soon be paid even better in their new jobs."

You learn this about "capitalists" - they lie. They're as bad as cops for it, which is partly why they're always on the same team.

  11. The hidden gem of the month for me is 'Steelyard Blues' (1973).

Jane Fonda, Donald Sutherland, Peter Boyle, Howard Hesseman, John Savage.

It's scheduled for 9:30 on a Monday morning. Just another reminder that I have to go over the schedule with a fine-tooth comb to make sure I always catch these rarely-shown 70's oddities.
