Too bad Philly has no names there for you to meet.

Well, it's believable because Travolta's character in the movie is stupid. Come to think of it - an awful lot of the characters he plays are stupid. He's well-suited to play those for some reason.

So what's next week, Tom?

Evidently, you can't have one without the other. Some people are so desirous of self-glorification, you'll always have that shamelessness if the counts are allowed to remain. But, there may only be 2 or 3 people who feel this way about it. I've never counted. I've just seen a dozen or more posts about how some find this to be a nauseating brag source. So I was wondering.
-
It's true that they sometimes do and sometimes don't. I'm just asking a question - prompted by a number of posts I've read that are disparaging of these post counts. Wondering how widespread that disaffection is - and if it's the common sentiment, whether a petition to TCM Forums might be the way to go.

Well, no surprise there. Bruce has steadily become a better actor than he was.
-
But whatever you do, don't stop making your recommendations, Tom. I'm not always too sleepy to make the most of them - and yours are always worth listening to.

Planned to watch. Fell asleep and missed. Maybe next time, if there is one.

Frankly, all the parts of the movie when Bruce Willis is not onscreen are far less entertaining to me than when he is onscreen.

I'm trying to remember that the boards are not supposed to be blogs. But it's not easy sometimes.

It's been mentioned in several places, in several threads, that there is a feature here that some people feel serves only to cause trouble. Post counts. They can be manipulated far too easily for any meaningful value, and yet there are members who insist that they're something at which to point for recognition of some kind. They seem to be becoming a sore spot with more and more members. Perhaps it's time to petition for that feature's removal?
-
Please don't allow one single poster to get a thread closed down again. It's too easy for one person to dominate the boards when that's a strategy that works.

Some people respond to, and process, alcohol differently from other people. That's why you don't understand alcoholics - you aren't one.

The series 'Kung Fu: The Legend Continues' was shot in Toronto. Co-star Chris Potter lived 2 streets over from me. Big House - biggest in the community. But I never did catch a glimpse of Chris in the real world. However, in a bar in neighboring Mississauga, I happened in one night to see David Carradine sitting at the bar. He was drunk - and loud. Appeared to be in a surly mood. He left about 10 minutes after I got there. This friend of mine - Sandra - worked on the show as a location finder. I told her I'd seen David and he was drunk and apparently in a bad mood. She told me, "yeah, he's drunk a lot." I suspect he was drunk when he accidentally hanged himself. Still love him. An evil genius of acting.

Killed on the toilet, wasn't it?

Films That Were Controversial For Their Time
darkblue replied to speedracer5's topic in General Discussions
Yes - young nudity was a no-no for some people, as was the idea of young sex. I believe it was her co-star (Ames?) who quipped "this is the first ever children's rights movie." -
Thanks for the recommendation, Tom.

I can only assume that whoever set the banned list thinks jumbl ies is a racial term of some kind. Did you know that the word un couth is banned too? Couth is okay, but you can't have the un in front of it.

I cam't think of any justifiable reason why a discussion of what trolling is and how it should be dealt with should not be allowed. I simply asked what it was in my title. My opening post was entirely reasonable. It said, verbatim: "I've seen the term used a great deal. I'm wondering if everyone defines it the same way. Do YOU think a troll is a good thing or a bad thing for a message board? Do you appreciate what a "troll" brings to a board - or do you revile what it brings? Have you ever dealt with one? What did you do?" Why in the world would anyone object to any of that? Unless it was someone who actually doesn't want people to be aware of the phenomenon.

The Story of Temple Drake?? People were excited over that old thing?

Views don't mean anything. Anyone can bring in a couple of sock puppets and drive their views up to record numbers anytime they want. It's happened a lot with people who wanted something to brag about - in lieu of any actual contributions of which to be proud.

Says the Canadian? Maybe a trip south of the 49th is in order.

He's fighting the good fight for all our sakes. This picture needs to be seen by more people than himself, and he's trying his hardest to make it happen for us.

Done and done.

Yes. It was a really good discussion. Except for the part I couldn't see, apparently.
