I wish TCM show "Godzilla vs The Smog Monster". I haven't seen that one since its original release in 1971. I they ever remake this movie, I suggest filming it in the Gulf of Mexico with the monster destroying New Orleans. (oh shoot that's already been done)

This has to do with a charactor in the standard comics instead of comic strips but I thought be worth mentioning. I just learned from G4 (Tech TV) channel that the costume photos were released for the movie "Green Lantern" produced by Warner Brothers is expected to be released in 2011. I hope it lives up to expectations. http://www.bscreview.com/2010/07/ryan-reynolds-as-green-lantern-on-ew-cover/ Like to add that I noticed on the cover of "Entertainment" magazine the mentioning of "Tron". They are doing a sequal (more looks like a remake) called "Tron Legacy", scheduled for December 2010. Now that news to me, can't wait to see that one. Edited by: hamradio on Jul 19, 2010 10:08 PM

About Don Knotts, that probually was a smart move, I don't think he can be taken seriously in anything else but comedy. The Barney Fife charactor is too well engraved into peoples minds. You may have heard of the story of Max Baer, Jethro in the "Beverly Hillbillies" who really wanted to do drama but failed big time. His one man attempt at it in "Macon County Line" didn't pan out as hope. The casting departments back then knew what was the best role(s) for each charactor. Doing something else different could lead to a flop and for the studios back then only money counts not experimentation. As an after thought, can you imagine what would happened if they cast Jim Carrey in "Titanic"? There is already a long worst miscast list so we don't want to make it longer. John Wayne in a *horror?* The horror!!

Danny Elfman does have one good one, "The Nightmare Before Chritmas" which I like very much. He did "Batman" (1989) but that one is more Prince. Got the soundtrack and its *all* Prince.

I've never heard of this story about Thomas Ince before, very intriguing. Here is the complete story, a lot of rumors involved. If this was true then its not actually murder but manslaughter. Crime of passion is Hollywood and tabloid fodder. http://www.snopes.com/movies/other/ince.asp The article was written by Barbara "Ince'ing out the competiton" Mikkelson. Lol thats a good one.

"Hunchback of Notre Dame", big and bad.

Well that was food for thought but why would Todd Browning hire a fake? Most of the poor souls in "Freaks" actually did suffer from medical admornalities so wouldn't JJ be out of place if he was an impersonator? He had to be shunned upon by the others if he was a fake and one would think this would be an insult to the others. I'm just trying to use some logic, but what you stated could had happened. Very confusing. :| Speaking of fake freaks "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1923) is coming on.

I thought you and everyone else might be interested in the medical/genetic condition of one of the charactors in "Freaks". Its the half man, half woman person called Josephine Joseph that I found out very recently on the Science Channel really does and can exist. The condition is called *Chimerism* in which in this case 2 fraternal twins were fused into one individual during the zygote stage. I've learned this from an episode "I Am My Own Twin". Shows nature can really throw us some wild cards. What really brought this condition to the forefront was a legal case in which a mother was challanged in court for claiming her kids were hers but were not. They found the other DNA (from her other fused twin) in her and she was the mother even though standard DNA test says she wasn't. Some info from wiki, be sure to type the _(genetics) at the address bar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_(genetics) I've also heard about this on an episode of "CSI" where a person has chimerism almost got away with murder.

I replied yesterday but my post got deleted. "The Swan" has been released quite some time ago because its available on VHS http://www.amazon.com/Swan-VHS-Grace-Kelly/dp/630197879X Its rather expensive for for an old release because its getting rare and probually is the original domestic release. This is one of the reasons why I keep my VCR. Note: TCMWeb Administaror - if these types of post are not allowed please attach a note when deleting so we will know in the future. Thanks. MovieProfessor, I like to ask a question. Is the portrayal of James Whale in the movie "Gods and Monsters" true? If it is, thank goodness the public didn't got wind of his personality. Sure did surprised me. I'm hoping its only a whale of a tale.

Speaking of Nelson Riddle, I have one of his soundtrack scores "Harper Valley P.T.A.". The movie itself very funny, a getting revenge on the local hypocrites comedy. Like the soundtrack very much, its on a *green* vinyl LP. © 1978.

The definition of *Premiere* is the first performance of a play or showing of a movie. If TCM has already showed it in the past it is no longer a premiere. They can do an encore presentation like some other channels do for people who has tuned in late.. Now other channels have stretched the definition, lets say *Its their premiere* even though it might have aired on other channels like Pay per View or HBO in the very recent past.

I know RFD, that's where I recorded several videos about trains. Saved me a fortune for not having to buy the videos. Be nice if I knew this *before* I posted. Nebraska cable company is all I read. Thanks for the update and the *correct* information. Since RFD owns it, Roys Rogers can now RIP, again.

I like the new score for the silent "The Ragman" (1925) by Linda Martinez. John Williams music I like for modern movies i.e. "Star Wars" (all episodes) and "Jurassic Park". For classics "Spartacus" (1960), powerful score by Alex North. One of the WORST is a movie in which I don't know the title. It was a long time ago on the CBS Late Night Movie, which was a desert thriller. What I remembered the most was *that so called score*. Reason why I forgot what the movie was about! It was a guitar chord that played over and over and over and over! Nothing else. Would anyone know the title?

That missing footage was probually so shocking, it was trashed and burned. I would love to have seen that. I like to see how "Chicken Woman" was created. I once joked she is what one would look like if Howard the Duck and Lea Thompson got it on without the interruption. If by chance they ever do come across the missing footage and restore it, TCM can show it with Ross the Intern hosting it. Another movie was also made which was banned do to its shocking nature was "Child Bride" (1938). Ironically it also had a couple of freaks (literaly) in the movie, one of them shot and killed the creep who forced the poor girl played by Shirley Miles to marry him, giving the movie a happy ending. Some would think the castration scene (if it happened) in "Freaks" would had been better suited in "Child Bride", giving it a better happy ending. Just wondering are there other movies so offensive during the 1930's they were also banned. I know "Ecstasy" (1933), starring Hedy Lamarr was. Loved to have been a fly on the wall in any theatre that had the guts (and gall) to show it. My RX is for you to stop watching Hedy Lamarr nude scenes. Edited by: hamradio on Jul 17, 2010 9:47 PM

Actors whose careers end on a good note
hamradio replied to ClassicViewer's topic in General Discussions
Gene Kelly sort of faded away didn't he. I think his last years that involved televison and stage didn't get the attention his movies did. I don't blame him for the failure of "Xanadu", just a great performer in a flop. In 1999 he was ranked #15 in the American Film Institute's "Greatest Legends" list. So he did left on a good note. Just out of curosity, I Googled *most stupid comic strips* and Nancy is not in the group. http://www.dailyramblings.com/ramblings/561.php http://collegejolt.com/?p=13801 I don't know who these people are who criticised it but I think what has happened was over reporting of the opinions of a few. Look what wiki has to say, comic has won awards and even got a commemorative U.S. postage stamp. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_(comics) Note: You may have to type _(comics) in the address bar after Nancy. I hate when these cut and paste web links does this. Maybe I'm missing something? :| Edited by: hamradio on Jul 16, 2010 8:58 PM Add note about the wiki link, grrrrr.

Welcome to the Boards. At the present time Tom and Jerry are on the Cartoon Network and the Boomarang channels. I just checked my Directv guide to be sure.

Are you lucky! The only old classic I ever saw on the *big* screen was "Gone With the Wind" back in the 1980's Imagine seeing Clark Gable 2 stories tall !

Its just me but I never had in my life judged a movie due to how old it is. I am in my mid 50's and watched the old B&W comedies like The Three Stooges and Andy Clyde when I was a kid. If I like a movie then that's it, age doesn't matter. I guess I grew up not to be snobbish like some of my peers Like to add this little tidbit, I onced asked a girl where I worked who was a movie fan (supposenly) did she watch the silent classics. She replied no and said are those the old movies where people run fast? I couldn't beleive anyone was that naive and ignorant.

Making only one movie leaves a lot of questions i.e. why not more? The following are not exactly a hit but - Hatty Jones who played "Madeline" was her only movie. Eva Marie Singhamner who played "Heidi" in the German produced remake fell completely off the face of the Earth afterwards. (as well as the English dubbed video)

redriver wrote: << Not funny as a strip, it could drag a movie underwater. There was even a controversy in the 1970's about newspapers carrying the strip. >> I get it, I guess she will drag it down, Lol. I like them to put her and Cartman in the same room just to see what would happen. (Katy bar the door ) What exactly was the controversy over it, I don't see anything wrong with the strip. Of all the things for people to complain about.

I am glad to hear that Trigger got a new home where it will (hopefully) be safe but I like to ask the million dollar question, WHY on Earth did a *cable company* bought it. $266,500 is a LOT of money!! These companies are charging everyone through the nose for cable rates stating they are accounting for increasing broadcast cost and other stuff THEY have no control over. If that was *my* cable company, I'd be raising h_ll.

There are 3 comic strips they never done a movie about. Could give Hollywood a chance to do something different for a change. ALLEY OOP NANCY PEANUTS About "Flash Gordon", the 1930's serials were OK for the time period but the 1980's remake? It was too campy and out of date. That one if a modern movie was to be made, it needed serious work done on it. Keeping it 1930's-ish didn't cut it for me. "Dick Tracy" was too COLORFUL (literally speaking). Plot could used some work.. "Duck Tracy" is more entertaining. What I read about the critics take on it, "Annie" arrived at a time in which the political atmosphere didn't support it. Had something to do with the Reagan years. I liked it very much but didn't like that Disney politically correct remake (WHY so soon). I mean, minority children in a 1930's orphanage during the time of segregation. They rewrote history on that one, talk about causing confusion for future generations of kids who needs to know the ugly truth of that time period. It did had the positive side of keeping with the Broadway play. Trivia: Because of a vicious heatwave in 1981, they couldn't do the Christmas theme in "Annie" but went to a 4th of July theme. The people you saw were *burning up*, not acting. I have the made behind the scenes tape "Lights, Camera, Annie" so I know! Shortly after completing "Annie", Aileen Quinn made a recording "Bobby's Girl". Only a few hundred were ever pressed making it a very rare LP.
