By the way they are talking about the Salton Sea in "The Monster That Challanged the World". That's a "monster" WE made! http://www.fogonazos.es/2007/12/salton-sea-disaster.html Lol in the movie I think that monster just blew its nose. -

I'm watching it, nice Ray Harryhausen movie. Did anyone noticed that when they fired the bazookas, *nothing* came out? Lol!. You know if something like this monster happens today, Coney Island will make a thrill ride named after the beast. Agh, monster was too easy to kill. Godzilla can't be touched. Great, "It Came From Beneath the Sea" coming up next. -

Referring to "The Three Lives Of Thomasina", what happened to the other 6 lives? The "Homeward Bound" movies that can satisfy both camps has a couple of dogs and a cat? Edited by: hamradio on Mar 12, 2010 12:26 PM -

John Boorman Will Direct: "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz"!
hamradio replied to CelluloidKid's topic in General Discussions
CelluloidKid posted: << While a darker cinematic version of the story may surprise lovers of the classic film, it might actually bring the tone closer to the original source. >> Another *dark* movie? The economy might be bad but what's with all of these "dark" movies anyway? We need something with a little more cheerfull theme. Besides John Boorman will have his work cut out for him. Beating the 1939 film will be a challange enough. How about a comedy called "The Wizard of Id"? (that's never been done before). Edited by: hamradio on Mar 10, 2010 7:22 PM Fixed typo. -

I hate this new standard the government set a few years back, it messed up a LOT of electronic devices. Leave it up to them to fix something that is not broken, the morons! I have several devices that was programmed to set DST automaticly, one didn't have to bother with it i.e.. my home automation, time lapse VCR, standard VCR's, Heathkit ID-5001 Weather Computer, etc. that had automatic DST settings. Now I have to turn the DST off and set it manually twice a year. Even had to download software patches for Windows 98SE and Windows XP so my computers can update the time properly. At least my home automation is kept at the old standard, it cares less because the sun rises and sets as usual by it onboard time keeping so the functions stays the same. The only thing I don't have to worry with is my 24 hour (23:00:00 format) digital clock, its kept set with WWV's CUT. Lol, this Heathkit clock has been keeping time 24/7 since December 26, 1975 - never had to worry with it. Question: Is TCM going to start EDITING movies??
hamradio replied to hamradio's topic in General Discussions
After all these years of watching "Saturday Night Fever", I *just noticed* a BLOOPER. Its at the beginning, near the end of the opening titles when John Travolta was carrying the can of paint. Pay attention that its a very nice *sunny* day and just when he got to the paint store where he works *its raining* wet pavement stands out. LOL! -
That is a very nice story, the best you can hope for is to get TCM to air the movie if they actually have it in their collection. The info I got from TCM is very limited but I learned the movie is a unique love story. I love to see Ron Howard as a toddler, lol. That in itself should get some responses. If TCM ever airs it, it may be a once in a lifetime opportunity to record it. I don't think there is enough demand for DVD production, movie is virtually unknown today. I found a movie poster and downloaded it but its too large to post on this site. It took a while for the 1.6 megabyte photo to download on my dialup. http://aziomedia.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/frontierwoman1.jpg Noticed its filmed in "Vistarama", isn't this the same as Cinemascope? http://www.widescreenmuseum.com/widescreen/vistarama01.htm Good luck in your quest.

Question: Is TCM going to start EDITING movies??
hamradio replied to hamradio's topic in General Discussions
I know of this version of "Saturday Night Fever", even remembered the trailor ads on TV in which the studio wanted *everybody* to enjoy the John Travola sensation. I never have never known of a studio to do something like this before and after which makes SNF a unique release / PG re-release of a movie. Now if TCM wants to air this version, that's perfectly OK as long as TCM states that this will be aired as "Saturday Night Fever - Special Cut Edition" and having Robert Osborne to plainly tell us, this is what will be presented. TCM is NOT editing in matter of speaking. My original post was that when I saw the PG rating on my Directv's guide, I wondered was this the version or not, since they never stated what version TCM was showing. To my surprise it WAS the R rated version that *now* has the PG rating. I mean, talk about confusion, people be asking *which PG version??* If they are going to rerate R rated movies down to PG then the "Special Cut" version needs to be rerated to *Rated G.* Ha that's only fair To add to the subject like I stated before, how can parents set the parental controls on their TV's, boxes, DVD - Blu ray players. etc if they don't want their kids to see the rerated movies. Are they now going have to exclude *all* PG movies to be on the safe side? The purpose of the V chip technology was to give parents control over what their children watch. Now if the studios are going to rerate movies down from R to PG, this in all practical purposes sort of defects the purpose of the safeguard some parents wants. "Saturday Night Fever" when presented on TCM should have carried the TV-14 or TV-MA rating which the parental control can lock out.. My Directv Box parental controls are as follows, for "Entire Audience TV" the ratings are TV-G, TV-PG, TV-14 and TV-MA. For "MPAA - Movies" the ratings are G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17 and X. Now "Saturday Night Fever" on TCM *according to the Directv guide* was PG. See the problem. Many of us now have became desensitized to violence, rough language, sex but in respect, there are those who still have higher moral standards for their family to live by. I think I might have came across an issue *the TCM Programming Manager* should take a close look at. I hope this can be fixed because I want EVERYONE to enjoy TCM! -

hamradio replied to hamradio's topic in General Discussions
What is playing right now on TCM is the original 1977 Rated R theatrcal released movie NOT the older tone down (tame) PG re release the article is referring to. I see NO difference between whats on now and my LaserDisc, the only difference is that its rerated PG - Directv or TCM's PG-14. The very good news out of this is that TCM does not edit - held true to form! Edited by: hamradio on Mar 7, 2010 1:55 AM -

Thank goodness TCM stayed true to form but I am a bit floored this movie has a PG rating. How time has ever changed!! Maybe this is telling me I need to get out more. :| Big question is how does this affect the V chip settings, does the new ratings make parental settings *useless?* Things has changed as much as John Travolta's hair, LOL! -

Funny "The Blackboard Jungle" (1955) has the TV-14 rating. These 2 movies are worlds apart, very confusing rating system. -
Was "Big Bad Mama" a big step down for Angie Dickinson?
hamradio replied to HollywoodGolightly's topic in General Discussions
I thought her step down was divorcing Burt Bacharach I have a large commentary booklet that came with my old "As You Remembered Them" cassette tapes and there is a very nice large photo of Angie and Burt walking through an open meadow holding hands. So sad when I heard about their bitter marrage breakup. "Big Bad Mama": is simply seeing a side of her we don't like to see. That doesn't make it a bad movie but "Rio Bravo" its not. I know her best from the old "Police Woman" TV show and I was young at the time they aired, got to know her mostly from watching them. Man has it been that long ago? -
I was looking through my Directv guide and I was looking to see what TCM is playing tonight and I noticed that "Saturday Night Fever" (1977) is airing at 12:15am EST and by my surprise, I saw that its Rated PG. What?? I have "Saturday Night Fever" on Laserdisc and I know its Rated *R*. What gives, is it a mistake on the Directv's guide? Add to the fact its playing after midnight!
