Do you remember the very first movie you ever saw?
hamradio replied to BruceGhent's topic in General Discussions
That was a problem with those old polarized 3D glasses. Gave many a *migrane.* http://www.thewrap.com/blog-entry/1522 -
I like to include one that was made in Germany (not including US made versions). The 1953 Elsbeth Sigmond "Heidi" and the 1965 remake with Eva Maria Singhamner. The latter might have to be subtitled because the English voice over version is no longer available. Whats strange is that the 1965 is what I call a "carbon copy" remake of the 1953. Funnier still is that Herr Sesemann looks a LOT like *Goldfinger!* Lol. Edited by: hamradio on Jan 17, 2010 2:17 AM

For side by side comparisions? "Captain January" (1924) and the 1936 remake. "Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) and the 1939 remake. "Pygmalion" (1938) and "My Fair Lady" (1964).

cough..cough.. There's a place a smoker can go to if he miss the good old days. Agh. (oxygen extra at the concession stand) http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=980DE6DE1639E333A25756C0A9679C946997D6CF -
I am stunned by the events coming out of Haiti. President Obama announced the biggest releif effort in US history. This makes our troubles looks so trivial. http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7017542632?Obama%20Announces%20Clinton%20And%20Bush%20Teaming%20Up%20To%20Help%20Haiti Horrific story. http://www.news.com.au/world/adopting-parents-fear-children-have-died-in-quake/story-e6frfkyi-1225820281613

Dreadful Copy of "Three Wise Fools" - AGAIN!
hamradio replied to patful's topic in General Discussions
Could they be broadcasting an old CD-i video? The movie "Highlander, The Renegade Version" I have is like that (pixalated). Large SD and Hi Def televisions will make the older videos show up noise / pixals better. Thats why I hated the old "projection" television sets back in the 1980's - 90's. My max size for any SD televisons were 27" Ever notice how "noisy" a SD signal looks on a large HI Def set? -
Hugh Herbert, now thats a name I haven't heard in *years!* My local TV station use to show some of his shorts as well as the largely forgotten Andy Clyde. hoo hoo hoo Oh yes a bit of trivia: Hugh Herbert left an impression on Paul Winchell (famous for voice overs) did an imitation of Hugh Herbert as the Dow Cleanser Scrubbing Bubble's voice in the TV commercials for the sink cleaner. This was the older Scrubbing Bubble's commercials with the hoo hoo hoo if anyone remembers. Edited by: hamradio on Jan 15, 2010 11:12 PM

Its called Stephens' ODS (Omni-Directional Stereophonic) Sound. Very early indeed, hearing movies made during the 1950's and 60's in stereo really is a treat, something I didn't know until recently. I've heard of my local theatre manager sometime back mentioning magnetic sound in some movies during the 1960's but to think of the 1950's WOW! My local theatre stayed MONO!!! yuck, no wonder it closed! On of the first movies during the early years of stereo on TCM I heard in stereo was "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea". Here is a list of early MGM movies in stereo http://instereouk.com/1953_MGM.html *ENJOY!*

Thinking how bad is Rura Penthe, a penal colony asteroid of the Klingon Empire portrayed in "Star Trek VI, The Undiscovered Country". The commandant is well cast.

Your reply got me to thinking about a "Twilight Zone" episode "Time Enough at Last", starring Burgess Meredith. He was the only human left alive and all he cared about is the fact that he had all the time in the world to read all the books. Cruel ending that he broke his glasses, which made him wish he was dead. (Hmmm, that image is the firemen's of "Fahreinheit 451" worst nightmare.)

Lol, I know exactly how thrilled you are. TCM showed a few movies I've been suggesting for the past couple of years. Just to think that some people believe that "Suggest a Movie" doesn't work. (it takes a l-o-n-g time but its works)

Funny, I just watched "From Freezer to Furnace" on the Science channel. It starts in Oymyakon, Russia, which is the coldest inhabited village on earth. Temperatures often plummet to -71. degrees. Brrr! The movie "Ice Age" seems to be a bit warmer.

Nice survey. I like that "Life After People" series, it is something out of "The Twilight Zone". Did they ever figure out where everyone gone?? Its not a type of rapture because that only targets a select group of people. Very eerie, couldn't that series at least left "Apocalyse Man" behind?

Unreleased Humphrey Bogart films available

No, I didn't miss the point, I thought you could use the link in case you had old copyrighted videos laying about you got tired of and wanted to legally trade off. We fellow members here just don't want you to get into trouble. Beleive me I know your frustration in waiting (sometimes for hell to freeze over) for studios to release movies to the general public for sell or to companies to broadcast. I myself wish they would give TCM the rights to broadcast them, there are tons of unreleased material. Yes as you said, its their lost but matter of fact *its everyones lost!* By the way I would listen to Kyle, he's one of the smartest members here on the board! Take his HINT! -
HG, you just might like this. My mom has a tape of "African Queen" along with "Key Largo" on a Polaroid Supercolor VHS tape (what a heavy well made tape!). She dated it, it was recorded on July 18, 1985 from WGN Channel 9. Lol how long ago. I made a temp DVD recording of "African Queen" and a WGN "Newsbreak" (back then). The first photo is a DVD dubbed snapshot is of the movie which appears to be a nice 16mm print. Sound is a bit narrow band. The VCR was an old Magnavox that had the old type tuner "presets" in other words you would see 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 , etc. across the front panel. This is a snapshot from the Newsbreak of a *young* Tom Skilling, the weatherman on WGN. This drives home how old the recording is!

This site might help you a little http://www.informationweek.com/news/internet/ebusiness/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=191801303 I don't know how much it will help in this case. These types of uploads are one of the reasons broadcasters are beginning to be required to copyguard their transmissions, that is your DVD recorder won't record certain movies even from TCM at times. Here is a very recent thread about it. http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=150158&start=75&tstart=0 This site specailizes in the trading of copyrighted movies. http://www.flickflop.com/ -
HollywoodGolightly wrote: << A six-year journey filled with challenges nearly as difficult as those faced by Rose and Charlie, the restoration process began at the source: Romulus Films ?one of the film's original production companies? provided access to the original three-strip negative at a London facility where the film was carefully scanned and digitized. The separate elements were then transferred to Los Angeles and painstakingly recombined and inspected frame by frame to ensure that every detail aligned and that any dirt and scratches were removed. >> Remember my recent comment about the old 3 strip Technicolor? You see now why I appreciate it better. I bet its been a *long time* since those negatives seen the light of day.

Its a shame someone had to make a disturbing movie called "Hounddog" that involved Elvis. I bet he's turning over in his grave. http://www.elvis.com.au/presley/news/hounddog_trailer_poster_dakota_fanning.shtml Is it safe to come out? Not by a long shot.
-
You must didn't see my last post about a guy I work for that got a life size Elvis statue that takes 2 people to move around (one person if you risk damage). http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=150447&tstart=15 Is that an Elvis fan or what?
-
You're right, they shouldn't write such gossip. That should be left to the experts i.e. The National Enquirer. The next thing you know somebody be claiming that Elvis is still alive. Many people think that "Mommie Dearest" should be taken with a grain of salt but they are mainly Joan Crawford *fans!*
