  1. I hope the following explanation explains the reason I posted it. At the time of posting it, I totally forgot about her death and if you remembered her during the 1980's she always over did it a bit with makeup. I thought the picture of her on CNN was simply the ravages of time and nothing else. I do not make fun of people who are sick and members here know I don't do stuff like that and I will correct any errors such as that. I figuered I will mess up sooner of later - with nearly 2,000 post, its a miracle it haven't happen sooner. Thanks for accepting my apology. I think I should give this board a rest for a while. 2. I wish you pointed that out to me earlier, I forgot about her misfortune. I deleted the photo with an apology. Sorry.
  3. I want to apologise for the photo, I absolutely FORGOT about her death, only heard about it only once and it slipped my mind. I thought she was still alive and was married. My mind was on the 1980's PTL scandel. Again sorry. I was Googling photos with her name and that photo was in the group so I posted it without reading that website. We all make mistakes and I can not remember *everything and everyone* thoughout history.. That explains why the first reply after mine was a bit confusing. I don't do stuff like that.
  4. Its somewhat reminiscent of "The Wilderness Family" movies made during that era. Here is a related topic http://www.livingwithwolves.org/project.html

Not a movie line but a one liner that still brings me a smile every time I hear it. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall !! by Ronald Reagan on June 12, 1987. 7. No, the History Channel but the movie "Public Enemies" covers the same topic which I haven't seen yet. I'm in no big rush, just waiting for it to get to one of the premium channels. Saving it when there is nothing else on. Should be on within the next few months. Hope to find out what does Baby Face Nelson has against cows, lol!
  8. Little Ceasar G Men Dillinger Bonnie and Clyde The following is a documentary but is just as good Crime Wave 18 Months of Mayhem Edited by: hamradio on Nov 5, 2009 12:40 PM
  9. For sound movies, my top 10 are Star Wars, A New Hope Smokey and the Bandit The Swarm Harper Valley PTA (my LP is *green!* ) Rocky Annie Skatetown USA Purple Rain Caddyshack Beverly Hills Cop For silent movies, referring to the music score The Ragman Captain January Nosferatu (the version TCM *has not* showned in the past 3 years) The Jazz Singer Napolean There is a couple of others I can't think off the bat.
  10. I think you should Google it if you know what I'm talking about. It might not be agreeable with the TCM Web Administrator. Hint: Its not just for infants any more, lol! My mom told me about this a few years ago after seeing the subject on the Oprah Winfrey Show, she was not please with the topic. Since then I've seen similiar subject matters on 20/20, National Geographics "Taboo" and Weirdspot.com -keyword teenage. I think its becoming a trend. I think any alien life seeing this before landing will do a 180 and go back at Warp 10.
  11. Read the program description for "Uncle Silas" .....scheming uncle and his *hag* accomplice. lol I was wondering who let the dogs out.
  12. My TCM is playing OK on Directv. My signal meter reads 91 on Transponder 21 Network 101 degrees. While I was checking the other channels, I just saw a commercial on G4 for the *remake* of "V"!! Why?? "Uncle Silas" does have the contrast a little "off".
  13. I would say any of the early silents that has a grainy appearance or have been restored a bit to late. Anything shot by Thomas Edison i.e. "The Christmas Secert" (1898) a nice little Xmas movie short. I wish TCM show that one again! Any of the surviving Baby Peggy silents. "The Bluebird" (1918) that was saved *just in the nick of time!* Here is a snapshot taken from my DVD-ROM drive of the movie showing the nitrate decomposition scene that was left in. I'm glad it was, some of the newly restored silent prints has such material removed and replaced with a still. The woman is the sick girls mother, yeah I know, how *drunk* was that guy, lol!! (Best argument for Prohibition????) Just for the sake of argument, does "Howard the Duck" need to be on Blu ray?
  14. You really got me to thinking about the present DVD / Blu ray technology and you will have to see this to beleive it. Use the Zoom in whenever possible. How about a DVD player with *vacuum tube / HDMI output!!* http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/220620327/Vacuum_Tube_DVD_Player_FT800_FM.html A hybrid CD player with vacuum tube amplifier already built in http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=VICDS6%20%20%20%20SIL And to top it off check out the Blu-ray.com discussion forum about adding vacuum tube amplifiers. http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=60734&page=2 Am I'm right or what?
  15. WGN Chicago is airing "Bewitched" at 4:00 and 4:30 pm Monday - Friday They have become a sort of a TVLand recently.
  16. These two sites should expalin. http://www.electronics-tutorials.com/receivers/regen-radio-receiver.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regenerative_circuit They can be tricky to use. For *local* radio stations its no big deal but for shortwave or DX AM broadcast, there is a fine balance between tuning and regeneration level. Most people who don't know about these receivers but comes across them thinks they are broken. Its just that they need a long wire antenna, about 100 - 130 feet, a *good* ground and needs to know how to operate the set. Trivia: On the wiki site above, they mention the name Lee De Forest. He is the same guy who invented the vacuum tube and *sound on film recording - Phonofilm!* You might remembered the old TCM thread from about a year ago when the topic was about the earliest sound on film recordings besides the Vitaphone disc recordings. Radio is what got the ball rolling for the development of talking pictures. So when you listen to the *sound* in movies, you have this old radio tech to thank!
  17. The tubes are 12AT6 detector, 50C5 audio amplifier and 35W4 rectifier. You might be surprise to know this but tubes are still being used in high end audio and guitar amplifiers. Russia are the main supplier of vacuum tubes and are probually the best ever made. Check out Audio Advisor for amplifiers. Be prepared for sticker shock. http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=VIV60
  18. 15 years? Try waiting 30 years to build this. Regenerative radio, my way!
  19. You might like this behind the scenes photo of Boris Karloff wearing the Egyptian attire standing center right between the camera and the automobile mockup.
  20. I think you're trying to post a photo. Remove the IMG and the /img and use only the exclamation mark before the http and after jpg Here's your photo. Welcome to the boards.
  21. Lol, glad you joined the club. http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=148709&tstart=30
  22. Well I'm not crying, matter of fact, I had a nice Halloween week. Just a couple of nights ago on the History Channel, they presented a documentary "The Real Wolfman". Its about the investigation of the famous Wolfman attacks in France during the 1760's. It was very neat. Spoiler Alert: They came to the conclusion that a village outcast became a serial killer by using a trained African hyena to do the attacks. He finally came to the so called rescue by claiming to shoot the monster with a silver bullet. His story did not add up at all. I learned that hyenas has a jaw pressure of 1,000 pounds - amazing. http://www.history.com/shows.do?episodeId=488248&action=detail I like to add that this poor guy is probually glad that "The Wolfman" with Lon Chaney Jr wasn't shown. Suffering from hypertrichocis. he is using humor in dealing with his condition. All in all, don't you just love it when fact is stranger than fiction! *Happy Halloween !*
  23. In a society of planned obsolescence, the increase sales of Blu-ray should be no surprise. The million dollar question is *when* will a Blu-ray recorder be available? I myself just purchased a DVD recorder and am planning to use it during the holidays. I will NOT replace any of my VHS tapes (those that I have purchased) until they wear out or malfunction. I still think the quality that standard DVD's and Directv gives me is still great and I don't care to read the fine print on a piece of paper that some actor is holding. It will be quite some time before I purchase Blu -ray since I am still using a standard TV set. When it finally goes on the fritz, I will still be using my old recording equipment. When they *finally* malfunctions - which I hope be some time off, then I will buy a Blu ray, at that time a recorder might be available.
  24. *Stand by for Action* was the catch phrase coined at the beginnig of "Stingray".
