I always thought the "Who's on First" gag was funny.

What I remembered from the last doctors visit, I could have read the entire Encyclopaedia Britannica. We're dealing with medievalism here!

"Around the World in 80 Days" is the only hot air balloon movie I can think of. Don't confuse this with the couple of Micheal Moore movies that is simply hot air. Boy was found hiding in the attic!! Did the idiot parents think to look there *first?* They might make a movie about the father's UFO contraption but the title "Unidentified Flying Oddball" is already taken. The guy said he was hoping the balloon would be a "commuter vehicle". I think after today, that idea has crashed and burned. Thanks but I'll take a taxi. Lesson for the day: *Parents watch your children!* Edited by: hamradio on Oct 15, 2009 9:45 PM

I wished they repeated "The Scarlet Letter" for Silent Sunday Night but "The Phantom of the Opera" will be playing which I've already seen. The last Lillian Gish movie I saw was "Orphans of the Storm". I noticed the tall guy (Karl Dane) in the movie, he's the funny one in "The Big Parade". He impersonated a woman calling the govenor a nincompoop. I like his character. The sound version of this movie made in 1995 with Robert Duvall was *great.* I do not like the fact that the daughter (the little girl in the movie) was stigmatized for her mother's sins. I thought one was only accountable for ones self? I really felt sorry for her. The "Puritian" hypocrites. I like when Lillian removed her head piece showing her hair - the taliban will be horrified! We could of course bring back the dunking punishment for idle gossip. There's a couple in my town I like see have that done to in the river. Here is some historical info on the Puritians http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~riss/hrtg/engl.html I've learned that the sleeping quarters were a bit crowded to say the least - about 6 to 7 to a bed, lol. Me sleep next to my mother in law? I don't think so, I rather sleep in a hollow log. Learned that on The History Channel.

Beleive it or not they had answering machines, dictating devices, intercoms (ever noticed them in 1930's - 1940's movies?) Here's something fun http://inventors.about.com/od/astartinventions/a/Answering.htm How about a 1930's *FAX Machine?* http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=dde_1179420596

It might have been easier on our children if the supercontinent Pangea stayed intact. They would have been dumb as a dinosaur if they couldn't name only one continent. Imagine our political structure today if Pangea existed. Wonder what did the one in the blue sweater learned in school?

We are simply getting *old.* We are sounding like our grandparents who use to say "I can remember back when..... " or "I can remember in our day........" How long will it be when we will be coining the phrase "I have falling and can't get up"? The best *Ed Sullivan Show* was when The Beatles first appeared on it wearing suits. He use to coin the line , tonight we have a very big shooww. My mom told me she remembers when Steve Allen first hosted "The Tonight Show". I only can remember Johnny Carson and the transistion to Jay Leno was easy. But having Conan? Too many changes, it just might best better be called "Thre Conan O'Brian Show". Thank goodness Jay Leno is back on. I generally watch it on NBCw at 1:00am EST. Funny thing is that its virtually unchanged, for me its STILL "The Tonight Show".

TCM did a Lon Chaney double feature last night. You got your wish very fast.
-
I watched it about 15 min past the "nude in the field" scene when she and the other guy she met were making boring love. I remembered that she was looking up at a Coleman lamp hanging from the ceiling and I said to myself, they had Coleman lamps in those days? That nude scene is on Youtube and I don't know what else could have been edited out. According to Robert Osborne, it was pretty well edited and this was the "best" restored version. I just found the movie simply boring. Maybe if they had less horse and brush. I loved Lon Chaney dressed as a granny, he reminded me of Jonathan Winters doing the old Mrs Butterworth pancake syrup commercial. Can you picture Lon Chaney doing the same ad?
-
Well I loved the Lon Chaney double feature. "The Unknown" I haven't seen in a while, its a movie very well acted. His expresssion when he went through the trouble of having his arm amputated for nothing!! That's an extreme you don't even see in today's movies. Its, I guess unique to see Joan Crawford in a silent - I don't associate her with silent movies. "The Unholy Three" was a bit of a comedy with Tweedledee (Harry Earles) who impersenated a baby, lol. Didn't anyone think something was a little "off"? He also starred in "Freaks". Ironically it was a bit of a freak night. The chimpanzee scene with Hercules (HA what a squawny Hercules, he should have been called Tweedledum) got him thinking to himself "where's that cop when you need him?" (referring to the recent chimpanzee mauling attack). "Ecstasy" was a letdown, I saw no more than in the Youtube video. Talk about a DULL honeymoon, where did Hedy find that *boring* husband? She would have gotten more attention from a pet rock! About Czechoslovakian romance films, Zzzzz, wake me up when Hitler invades.

Hey, your thread got me to thinking about Fred G. Sanford (Red Foxx) in the TV sitcom "Sanford and Son". He on occasion says "my name is Fred G. Sanford the G stands for ...... Here's the story on it you might find interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_G._Sanford Lol.
-
That got me to thinking, I wonder has a couple of TCM members / ex members ever got together after chatting, dated and got married? That would make an interesting romance story. Maybe some of the older posters here would know. I can just hear one of their kids saying in the future (if that happened) "I am here because of TCM."
-
Its simply a twin sister assuming the identity of her deceased sister. Funny that Bette Davis produced it - three times the Davis, twice the fun. (did that add up?) In real life, identical twins do sometimes act alike. A nice twist could have been if Bette Davis played whats called "mirror image" twins. That would have been interesting.

Ideology and this forum seems to have made an explosive combination in the past. Ah I just remembered the old "Left, Right, Left" thread.

Two more I've heard during the past month. On *Dr Strangelove* during the brawl at the Pentagon - "you can't fight in here, this is a war room". *Meet the Robinsons* Wilber said, "if my parents found out, they will bury me alive and dance on my grave."
-
Be glad you found out now before marrying one of them! My suggestion? eharmony.com Do you think you are alone? LOL! If that was the case TCM would have long since been history. Those women probually like Madonna and S&M (its not a name). Don't feel bad, some people think I'm a little weird for my fondest of the vacuum tube and regenerative radios. If it makes you feel any better she would find us creepy also. Kelly Osbourne

SYBIL JASON Tribute on TCM and in Los Angeles!
hamradio replied to MrTinPanAlley's topic in General Discussions
I got the "Singing Kid" along with "The Singing Fool" on DVD early in 2008. I love the music in it especially "I Love to Singa". That tune stuck in my head for an entire week. For me it was something new even though it was made in 1936. There is a "Merrie Melodies" cartoon short with the title "I Love to Singa". with a few trailors. Take note this DVD was from Australia. "The Singing Kid" is available here http://turnerclassic.moviesunlimited.com/product.asp?sku=D01675 I saw the TCM November's schedule for November 23rd and its a great lineup. An unreleased Humphrey Bogard movie "The Great O'Malley" with Sybil Jason is in the schedule. So Humphrey Bogard fans will be getting to see one of his unreleased films in the bargain. If you're interested "The Changing of the Guard" that TCM showed several months ago is on Youtube in 2 parts. A TCM member got me interested in Sybil Jason a few years back, before I never even paid any attention to her. I'm hoping to see her other movies next month. and she might break the 2009 boredom. So far I like what I've seen. Here is a movie set photo (behind the scenes) of "The Singing Kid". Explains why the fish wasn't biting, lol! Edited by: hamradio on Oct 7, 2009 11:32 PM -
Sounds like the normal logic in conspiracies. Maybe shes an alien.

I'm not certain but I think the "C" was the wit of Jack Warner. Jackie Gleason was performing regularly in nightclubs, and was "discovered" while performing at Club 18 in New York by Jack Warner himself. Mr Warner signed him to a contract that had him leave New York for Hollywood. The "C" is probually for "Club 18". Sounds like an inside joke between Jackie and Jack Warner..

So far I have heard no complaints about Suddenlink. They must be pretty good.

What is the last film you saw in the theatre? On DVD?
hamradio replied to skimpole's topic in General Discussions
My very last movie I saw in the theatre was "Lock up". It was a re-release at the time. My downtown theatre closed its doors for good afterwards. The last DVD I bought was "The Alien Factor" -
Would you rather have this Spike Strips or this?

Grand Magical Illusions: Movie Sets & Imagery!

Here's a nice site about the Biograph Studios, the oldest film company in America. I like the article about Billy Bitzer, one of the earliest cameraman. 1896 wow. http://www.biographcompany.com/celebrity/bitzer.html
