I've noticed that not only you but a few other posters use the phrase "no longer show" or "use to show" a particuliar movie. Have people forgot the reason why the *video recorder* was invented and produced? If I like a movie I will either record it or buy it on VHS or DVD. You should be thankful that the movies you like are available on video. I have a lot or recorded movies and I don't have to wait for TCM or some other channel to show them. There are simply too many movies for TCM to show and there are a lot of unreleased material that should be shown. With TCM now showing movies from the 1980's and yes even the 1990's there will be even less time for them to show a movie that has aired previously. If you ever see a movie you like on TCM's schedule, program your recorder to record it and burn it because that might be your only chance. Have *I* ever learned that! At present there are only a couple of movies I want to watch, I'm waiting for one to get on Starz which is scheduled and one old one that is not available on video. If there is an unreleased movie, you might want to check Ebay every now and then. People from Australia and the UK been recording and selling extremely rare movies and old sitcoms and selling them there. I just recently acquired 3 episodes of "Hawaiian Eye" an early 1960's detective sitcom I haven't seen since I was 7 years old. I also got Able Gance's "Napolean" and a double feature Al Jolsons movie "The Singing Kid" / "The Singing Fool" on Ebay. If I wait for TCM to show them, I will probually have the longest wait in the world. PS I don't want a LONGER version of "Napolean" the one I have is long enough!

The one thing I like about the photo, which I beleive that affects peoples in a way is simple *symmetry.* Conveys a lot of meaning to people.

Another stupid idea that has come down the pike. You simply cannot recreate this great western icon of the 1950's to 60's. Just take a look at the photo, that IS "Gunsmoke". My parents been watching Gunsmoke since they got their first B&W TV and that is one of the oldest western classics I have in living memory. The Rifleman, Bonanza, Rawhide are great westerns that have a unique charactor of their own including Gunsmke and simply cannot be replicated. Ever notice how Fetus and Doc sort of fuss at each other in a funny way. I have a ViewMaster reel of Gunsmoke titled "The Rat Trap". Talk about seeing my favorite western charactors up close and "personal". Lol. I beleive it was the IFC Channel but I have watched "Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002)" twice and that is a very nice film. Imagine those poor little girls walking *that far* just to get home. That really showed the human spirit. I think they are made of better stuff then our kids who can't walk a mile without taking a bus or something.

I hope the movie "A Star is Born" is not somehow 'cursed'. Take a look at the marquee in the back in the photo. It was taken after the waters receeded during the April 1977 flood in my town. Yes its the same marquee that had "The Town That Dreaded Sundown" on the other side I posted a couple of weeks ago.

One thing I would love is for it be possible to get 1 channel directly from the UK, Australia, New Zealand, etc. That would make for some very interesting viewing. Fred if you haven't seen it, you should watch the documentary "Black Blizzard". It tells the story of the dust bowl disaster which is refected in "The Grapes of Wrath" ( the reason why the farmers in Oklahoma and the neighboring states packed up and left). Until I watched "Black Blizzard" I had no idea the dust bowl was *that bad!* Having that and the Great Depression, no wonder people during the 1930's thought that it was the *Wrath* of G_d and the world was coming to an end. At least those poor people back then didn't have to endure listening to the theme song of "Oklahoma".

I remembered some poster brought up a long time ago about the benefits of having repeats on certain movies. The logic is, movies that are not available on video should be repeated if by chance the person who wants to watch and record it gets a second or third chance. I like when TCM shows unreleased material which is rare and something TCM should do more often. This is one case in which repeats are needed! Repeats can be usefull for getting the very young viewers interested in classic movies just in case they have never seen the film before or missed it. I think repeats bothers some of the TCM fans because thats the ONLY channel they pefer to view. In that case you will have a better likelyhood of seeing a repeat. For myself I don't watch TCM, to phrase it "24/7". I don't pay Directv just to watch *one channel!* Last night Cops was the only thing on that I liked at that paticuliar time. Some movies are just not my cup of tea. I bet that revelation horrifies some TCM diehards - but thats life. The UK must have different standards in showing their movies but I think that if enough British movie buffs complained more then TCM UK would change their criteria.

I like to make an obvious comparison between books. Its funny that David Brent was about 6 years old when Clark Gable died, the man never met Clark Gable, many of these events simply happened too long ago for anyone now to care or to back up. Now this book gets CK's attention. When I mentioned the film "Mommie Dearest" sometime back that was based on Christinia Crawfords book, which is mostly a recollection of her childhood, CK dismissed it. I think that a person who has lived with a person has better knowledge of a star then a guy like David Brent who wasn't even born, to write a book. There can be both sides at looking at the motives of Christinas book, was it revenge or "getting the last word in" or maybe a bit of both. People who suffers from child abuse are less likely to be beleived if their parent(s) are a celebrity but the rest of the accused, guilty by press. But David Brents book, sounds like a National Enquirer novel. Would you beleive a guy that was quoted in saying that Rudolf Valentino had the eyes of a pig - very mean spirited. Whats the big deal if anyone is gay or not, thats the persons *own business!* Do we sometimes forget that movie stars are human and are not immortal beings from another planet? I watch a movie or listen to music for one thing and one thing only, *if I LIKE IT!* Why don't David Brent write a book about OJ Simpson while he is ALIVE or is he too chicken? GG, I am glad you posted the answer to the question because Dody is a girls name. There are 2 derivatives, Dody and Dodie. Matter of fact its sort of rare, probually why the husband thought it was Dody instead of Dora. I myself do get the sound of words confuse a lot because people (even actors) may not speak clearly at times and it causes problems at times for me. This is why I like to see the lyrics of music at times. I can't understand a some of words at times and when I hear a song I never heard before, its a challange to find the title. Dora is very common but Dody or Dodie, I have only heard only about twice in my life. The first time I've ever heard it was in the "My Three Sons" TV sitcom, the little girl (Dawn Lynn) was called Dodie and on the comedy TV series "Mary Hartman" and the movie "Grease", the actress Dody Goodman who past away last year. But a *man* named Dody, ha I hope not.
