  1. ..and also has nice timing. How ironic, has anyone noticed the commercial for "The Collector"? The hype for the movie is *A new horror icon is born*
  2. This is why I don't watch movies from those channels. A HALF of a movie? I don't think so. How much people are paying for cable and satellite, we should be getting the whole "kit and kaboodle". I've noticed that the movie "Dune" is virtually cut in half by some channels showing the "short version". You couldn't say it any better CK, *Thank G_d for TCM!!* Hopefully with this revelation TNT's viewership will be *cut in half!*
  3. ARRRRRRR!! The Scallywag producer should be made to walk the plank but Davy Jones' Locker is not in ye space. Shiver me timbers.
  4. I never remembered ever have to go to the restroom during a movie, only between showings. Anyway I always watch a movie 2 or 3 times so I wouldn't miss anything if I did went. This was when my downtown theatre was open and didn't have to leave after 1 showing. Funny that the mens restroom was next to the auditorium but the womens restroom was upstairs on the 2nd floor. Go figure.
  5. There are 2 movies called "The Hurricane". The one you're referring to is made in 1937, it is about a naive native sailor working as first mate on an island hopping windjammer that is unjustly jailed in Tahiti for striking a racist planter with government connections. Nature deals its form of justice in the form of a hurricane The other one is made in 1999 and is about Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, a boxer wrongly imprisoned for murder. The plot of both movies is about wrongful imprsionment but the latter lacks any wind. A great way for TCM to get the films confused and get criticised for showing the wrong one.
  6. I feel sorry for the guy who had to put that up on the marquee.
  7. "Snakes on a Plane". When you hear it what else can it mean?
  8. That really is nit picking. The word icon is an image, person or thing that symbolizes the subject, it is referring to. Even the little flash images on the top left corner of this page are icons. When you see them, gangsters, drama, romance comes to mind. A paticuliar person depending on what that individual represents are called icons whether if for good or bad.. When I see a photo of Clark Gable, well he's an icon of the golden age of Hollywood. Any image can be an icon of what it represents. When you see a crucifix, well thats an icon of a paticuliar religion. The small picturegrams we see on the computer when we boot up are icons, that is, its symbol represents the program linked to it. I rather use the word icon instead of "the little picture on the screen". The "Hollywood Walk of Fame", is an iconic group of stars embeded in the sidewalk to represent each actors and actresses. Bruce Lee is an icon for martial arts. Micheal Jackson is an icon for "pop" music. Merle Haggard is an icon for country music. The name James Bond or *007* is an icon for secret agent. Icon is such a simple word, with different meanings, maybe some people only look upon it as a *four letter word.* Has *TCM* (the 3 letters) became the icon for classic movies? (unless you're thinking of food when you see it!) Speaking of *icons* Message was edited by: hamradio
  9. It was rumored that Freddy the Freeloader and Phyllis Diller did some hanky panky.
  10. I forgot what channel it was, I think it was Tvland or The Family Channel, show several of the old B&W "The Red Skelton Show" back in the late 1990's. He is so funny. I do remember him back in the 1960's when I was a kid. One of the episodes really cracked me up, its when he was 'drunk' and he gazed toward his house and he said, oh look, there's my wife. Then he started singing the song "How Much is That Doggie in the Window". LOL.
  11. What you are referring to is one of TCM's *fanfare* clips. We should take care of our video collection from the movies we recorded from TCM. The old TCM fanfares from the past will make a nice nostalgic collectors item. I have noticed that TCM has always used the same "Silent Sunday Night" fanfare and I hope they never change it. I have several of the "street scene" from videos and from downloaded trailer video clips from the TCM video section, plus other fanfares like the "skyscraper" clip. I always convert the flash video to the .avi format (plus I keep the original .flv file). By the way does anyone still have any of the *original* 1995 TCM fanfare clips. If so, *keep them* and consider yourself lucky! Out of all the fanfares I have seen come and gone (besides TCM) the one I miss the most is the RCA SelectaVision Videodisc. I only have the downloaded .mov clips to remind me of the player, since its GONE! http://www.cedmagic.com/home/fanfare-movies-page.html
  12. That makes perfect sense. I was thinking will they eventually start showing (if they haven't already done so) the "Special Edition" of movies which would extend the running time.of movies. "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" is a perfect example. The video release is longer then the original theatrical release. Does anyone knows if TCM forbids the showing of "Directors Cut" of movies?
  13. CineSage jr wrote << Why? Is there a prize? >> Matter of fact there is (of sorts). They get to join the "Centenarians Club"
  14. This is cutting it very close (due to how long movies take from end of production to the movie screen) but I think Sharon Tate didn't live to see "The Thirteen Chairs" due to her murder by the Charles Manson psycho members. Your reply for some reason reminded me of Sharon.
  15. Luise Rainer (born January 12, 1910) which at present makes her 99 years - 6 months. Be interesting to see who gets to be 100+
  16. http://www.film.com/features/story/why-arent-more-movies-real/19962115 "12 Angry Men" is mentioned on the blog along with "Hign Noon" and "Rope". (so I don't take credit for listing "12 Angry Men") Is the movie "Knowing" a unique twist to this time concept? Message was edited by: hamradio
  17. You are *right* about that! "Stand by Me" proves that TCM does NOT edit anything out.
  18. I was thinking about Heath Ledger who unfortunately passed away before his final movie opened in "The Dark Knight". Clark Gable passed away before "The Misfits" opened. I won't add anymore to the list - why spoil the fun. What film stars do you know both recent and classic who passed away before seeing their final movie? Message was edited by: hamradio
  19. Don't most of the villians in James Bond movies go out with a bang? By the way Kenny dies in just about every episode of "South Park".
  20. or funnier still in that Granny (Beverly Hillbillies) thinks that Grant lost Richmond and is *still* alive with a stout liver. (Miss Grant?? must be his daughter, lol)
  21. Noticed that the "F" words are appearing more often in PG-13 movies? "Smokey and the Bandit" if made today would be rated PG-13, I'm surprised that it still has the PG rating. It almost had an R rating if some editing wasn't done. Remember the scene when BT Justice ask the local police to set up a roadblock and his son replied "good idea", Justice replied "what the hell you know". If one is wearing headphones (or got a very good ear), you can tell that its not what Justice originally said. Very noticable sound editing. What justice said to the state trooper was replaced with a truck horn. The TV network version has the worst editing I have ever heard! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ About the NC-17 movies, I have only seen 2. My most recent one is "Bad Lieutenant " on IFC. I forgot the title of the other one. I've read that "Evil Dead" originally had an *X* rating, lol give me a break, its barely worth an R. It don't have no nudity (except for a one second glance pass a window), no profanity and no sexual scenes. Teenagers today would laugh at the gore. I always thought the "zombie" women look like the witch sisters, "Thelma, Zelma, and Velma" if showned in real life. To show how laughable the X rating is in it, the last sequal "Army of Darkness" is virtually a comedy satire of the "Evel Dead" movies. (also a turkey of a movie!) No wonder ratings are confusing at times!
  22. ChipHeartsMovies wrote << FRANCE? China and Russia, okay, but why on earth France? >> Since we are referring to the late 1970's to early 1980's we have to remember the political atmosphere at the time. I think the link below might provide an answer. I remembered news reports that France made us very uneasy at the time. (I even still remembered all those terrorist bombings that occured in Paris about every other week!) But today its no big deal, after all they have Arianespace ! http://www.answers.com/topic/french-communist-party
  23. Cinesage jr wrote << Colossus and Guardian ought to gang up and obliterate Universal Pictures for this travesty.>> Lol, what I have heard about Universal recently, I think they already have. At least Colossus and Guardian are not as *mean* as Skynet who wants to obliterate *everybody!*
  24. The modems were called the acoustic couplers which were very common. Radio Shack sold a couple of versions of them during the 1980's as well as the first generation standard modem that had a transfer rate of 150 to 600 baud compared to todays 150,000,000+ baud rate (aka 150mbs) but when programs were only a few thousand bytes in size, it was no big deal. Strangly the acoustic modems were phased out due to the newer telephone headset design. The only holdover today are your pocket phone number memory dialers - they doubled as a calculator. One example if the Casio Quick Dialer 50. I never got the oppurtunity to use one on my Color Computer because all BBS dialups were long distance calls back in the 1980's. About the cassette tapes, Radio Shack also sold a few computer versions of them also. I still have to use it whenever I have to unplug the floppy drive controller from the Color Computer expansion slot. Cassette is the only way to load any programs in i.e. the Sound / Speech cartridge. Here is my present day (beleive it or not) Color Computer system. Notice the cassette on the left. The floppy drives are connected through a controller on the very back right - you can just barely make out "Disto".
  25. Oh boy, I bet *whale lovers* are fuming over the trailer of "All the Brothers Were Valiant " referring to whales as MONSTERS. Were people that ignorant about whales in 1953? If that comment don't get MGM to start a "Whale War" nothing will (well slaughtering them will - sad).
