I think we are missing the point Frank Capra was trying to make, that "no man is an island". The main point of the movie is that George Bailey at the lowest point in his life, thinks he's worthless and everyone is better off without him. Well he learned that his life *did have meaning* that impacted people he could have never imagined.
People know (some will even say WHO CARES) that at the end, Mr Potter will die a miserable, lonely old man and no one will miss him. That's in itself is a tragic death.
I don't want modern day sequals to ruin this marvelous movie which stands alone for that every human does have a purpose in the overall plan in the grand scheme of things.
I am also glad this movie has not become the "poster child" for unending remakes like "A Christmas Carol".

Mr Potter is the meanest, no doubt. Imagine what would have happened if Potter and Scrooge joined forces.
I'm thinking about a plot for the most ruthless corporation, Scrooge and Potter goes into partnership and run the former Enron Corp. The humanity!

I once thought I had very rare "VHS only" movies but found out they have been very recently made available on DVD. You might want to Google your titles to make certain.
The only 2 movies I have that are VHS only is "Dragnet" (1954) and the German / Austrian made "Heidi" (1965 dubbed to English in 1968 but is no longer available).
The following movies I thought were VHS only but just recently got to DVD are
"The Aurora Encounter" (1985), "Matewan" (1987) and "The Private Eyes" (1980). I have these movies on VHS and have no plans to buy the DVD version.

I like to point out that this year won't end until December 31st and I am interested in the upcoming movie "Sherlock Holmes" (2009), starring Robert Downey Jr. I hope it will be a great movie to end the year (and decade). Just have to wait and see. Anyone else interested in it?
Question is will it end the year with a bang or a bust?

I just saw the commercial on G4 (Tech TV). Photoshop will be a bit tough because you will have to edit *every frame* the actor you're replacing. It even comes with a *green screen!*

Fred speaking of lawyers, did you saw that one in "The Captain's Kid"? After knowing that Asa Plunkett found a significant treasure, the lawyer wanted Asa to be represented by his law firm for the upcoming possible murder trail.
After learning Asa no longer has rights to it, it was *goodbye!*

I've read that in the movie "Poor Little Rich Girl" the editors had to add in extra tap sounds to Shirley's because she couldn't match the very fast pace of Jack Haley and Alice Faye.

Depending on the floor, those metal taps on the bottom of the shoes they wore can be pretty loud. Its not to far fetched to think they only recorded the tap dancing sound while filming and mix in the singing and music later.

Fred I think some people like that boy has Thanksgiving confused with *Columbus Day!* LOL!
Thanksgiving was originally a harvest festival modeled after similiar festivals in Europe.
Besides Columbus *thought* he was in India (hence the name Indians). There is so much myth around our holidays we don't know what they suppose to really represent.
Mystery: Who *really* was the person with the caucasion features portrayed in the art work of the Aztecs who was prophecied by them to some day returned???
A documentary you might be interested in is "America Before Columbus" on The National Geographic Channel.
Now some people are claiming The Knights Templar was here before Columbus. Now I seriously doubt that but *if* that did happen, I can't imagine how freaked out the Native Americans would have been seeing those guys wearing chain nail clothing on horses bearing a giant cross.
Personally I think the *Cubans* should be celebrating Columbus Day instead of us.

"Star Trek II, The Wrath of Kahn", I beleive is the *best* Star Trek movie thanks to Ricardo Montalban. A trek movie that has a *great* actor.
The line he used "Revenge is a dish that is best served cold" was used in an earlier movie "Kind Hearts and Coronets" (1949) but the wording is slighly different "Revenge is a dish which people of taste prefer to eat cold"
Also I still remember him doing the Chrysler Volare car commercial quite a while back
The image of Kahn is always to me will always be synonymous with revenge!

I not only looked at the Youtube video of "The Changing of the Guard" but copy the flv files from my Windows temp internet folder and converted them using the Moyea flash video converter to the wmv format for the Windows Media Player a couple of months back. For now its better than nothing.
Please take note that Youtube has been copy protecting their videos recently as I found out when trying to convert "Lonesome Vice Soul Harvest" to MP3. I converted "The Changing of the Guard" in the nick of time.
I was hoping that TCM would had reaired it during her tribute. She has another short called "The Little Pioneer", I think its still unreleased.

This is Sybil Jason as a teenager (I beleive the oldest she was back then available). I've seen an "adult" photo of Sybil Jason but I think its a different person so I won't post it.
This photo got me to thinking was Warner Brothers considering doing their own take on "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm"?

She played Becky in "The Little Princess". Its been several years since I've seen the movie and at the time I didn't pay much attention to Sybil Jason and really didn't know who she was.
A post here a couple of years ago drew my attention to her and now that I got to see what a charming actress she is, its hard to beleive that the Becky charactor and Sybil is "the same person".
(hoping I'm phrasing it right).
In most part she has been largely forgotten about until the last few years, not uncommon for some past child stars. Fortunately the few films she did made havre all survived.
Another past silent era child star, Baby Peggy is virtually forgot about and sad to say 90% of all her films are LOST forever! What I've heard from a couple of film warehouse fires.

I have watched and recorded all her movies aired tonight. What has prevented them from getting to video??? Its a shame more of these Sybil Jason movies haven't been made. Someone at Warner Brothers really dropped the ball.
These movies made this holiday season a little more cheerful. Thanks TCM for showing them.
In addition to these, I also have "The Singing Kid".
"Little Big Shot" used NO rear projection "fake" background but outdoor scenes, it is very crisp, clear and that one should be on Blu ray. I've gotten to know Robert Armstrong very well from the 1933 "King Kong". I absolutely loved the hat trick they pulled on poor Edgar Kennedy. I might try that one at work, if I can find a hat!
"The Captain's Kid" is the top one, very funny and witty. Its a bit amusing that Sybil Jason thought Mae Robson was as old as the town (approx 200 years!!!!!). I hope Sybil took drivers ed after making this movie. What a way to run a jail - what do they think that town is, Mayberry?
"The Great O'Malley" had Humphrey Bogard and Pat O'Brien becoming "scene stealers", lol. This movie really was a unique movie in which the plot taught someone how to be human in every sense.
Bogard was more a victim than a criminal in this one.
The only thing I didn't like was that "Mastro" short after "Little Big Shot". TCM should have shown "The Changing of the Guard" or "Little Pioneer" instead.

Thats sort of weird, why did the song writer made that tune so *short?* No sooner did Sybil Jason got up to speed, the song came to an abrut end. It needed to have been made much longer.
This song is much better (longer!). So much so I have ripped it with the Moyea converter and made an MP3 of it some time back.

By the way a few days ago while trying to convert a Youtube video of "Lonesome Vice Magic Harvest - picture slideshow version" (from the old Geico dogs commercial), it wouldn't let me do so. Youtube is fixing their videos so they can't be converted. I had to feed the audio from one computer into another one to make a WAV file of it.
