Ironically its the only few channels where you won't see a Snuggie commercial.
-
The channels I mostly watch is The History - History International, The Science Channel, TCM, AMC and Spike on occasion, G4 and the Starz / Encore package. Once in a blue moon Sundance and IFC might give me a rare treat.
There have been days in which nothing at all is on I like and have to fire up my DVD or VCR.
When my local theatre was opened, they on occasion showed a 3 Stooges short before a movie. Very few theatres back in the 1980's showed them I bet. The one thing I remembered about The 3 Stooges was that the print my theatre was presenting looked like it was a brand new print.

Yes Fred that movie was *terrible!* This is why I don't like remakes, made for TV and direct to video movies. They never live up to expectations.
Actually it was the Spike channel where I saw it, they showed "Meteor" as one complete movie instead of a mini series. Some members have ask me to give remakes a chance before commenting, well I did , again and the rest is history.
Since NBC showed it originally, it couldn't have hurt their ratings because their ratings can not get any *lower.*

I must have misunderstood your intent. I thought your point was to compare TCM with other channels that has virtually nothing or little to offer. Otherwise why start the thread to begin with.
Even other board members has issues with the TCM programming at times but by in large it gives people uncut classic movies one cannot find elswhere with the exception of FMC, which I don't get.
Your bit of rudeness tells me you been in the desert a bit too long.
-
It means there are too few channel with anything worth watching.
That remake was 4 hours wasted !

So you saw the 2009 remake of "Meteor" too eh?

Its rumored that Francis, the Talking Mule was the end result of Mr Ed and Balaam spent a night of horsing around.

Even though I don't own a Blu-ray player at present, that is much BETTER news I've heard about them so far. I'm referring to "The Beatles Rock Band" for the Xbox. I mean turning them into CGI charactors! Whats the point?
Everything that is Beatles on video will be eventually be on Blu-ray and the transistion to digital (music/video wise) will be great. The recording equipment they used overseas are in my view is far superior then what we use during the same time period. Few Americans back then can afford equipment like Studer / Revox.
Case in point, the last CD I purchased was "Wingspan, Paul McCartney and Wings - Hits and History". The quality of the early 1970's recording blew me away. It sounded like it was recorded last month! I can expect the same quality on Blu-ray.

Question: Back in 1972, I've heard a song I beleive was called "Clouds" by Paul McCartney - I might be mistaken on the title. I have only heard it for a couple of months on the radio and then it disappeared. Have you ever heard it or please correct me on the title if I'm wrong. I like to obtain it.

How ironic tonight. We have a choice between "The Ace of Hearts" (1921) about an *anarchist* group and "Sons of *Anarchy* on FX. What a choice for Labor Day.
I'm choosing TCM, Happy Labor Day!
Message was edited by: hamradio To correct typo and to mention that Lon Chaney looks like Angus Scrimm in this movie.

Did we just learned something during the end titles of Nick? They showed the WWI actor soldiers running from the exit to the entrance of the glass house in order to "reuse" them. That must have cut down on having to hire more extras back then.

scsu1975, I think the "Thread Bites the Dust" thread has bit the dust. (I don't see it, lol)
-
Why do I have a feeling it might create another "Thread Bites the Dust" thread.
-
What better way to start off 2010 is by showing the movie "2010" (1984).
I just hope the unreleased films in their vaults are not on their way to Jupiter.

You might be glad to know that 80% of everything I bought this year is American made Heathkit. I should know, *I* made it! (not including 1 Knight Kit - old Radio Shack)
-
Are you referring to "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" (1988) or "Munchhausen" (1943) or
"Mama MAMA", a movie about Munchausen syndrome by Proxy??
Is that "Habernera" or "Havanera 1820" (1992)
I had enough of "Titanic" movies, I seen that ship sink and break apart in more ways than one. (Unless you want the rare 1943 Nazi version)
-
Maybe you might have better luck at getting TCM to show "Hells' Half Acre" (1954).
-
That's the truth ! Remember the good ole days when stuff use to be made in Japan?
-
Thanks for pointing that out, the wrong Castle, lol. I guess Joan Crawfords face and "Halloween" cause me to get my wires crossed.
About the Dark Castle remake, I've had it with remakes. I just last week gave a remake a chance and wasted 4 hours. It was the 2009 remake of "Meteor". 3 hours of this let down was centered around a pychopath and there was "little bang for the buck" in the movie.

<< ) I love the ending .... Esp. when the camera pans up to the telephone lines with talking coming out! >>
I saw something similiar on "The Flintstones", 2 birds were nearly electrocuted while sitting on the telephone line. (if you never saw it, you wouldn't understand, lol)
What is even more funny is whats printed on the bottom of the movie poster "William Castle warns you: This is a motion picture about UXORICIDE". Why is the the very first time that people were about the learn that it *was* possible for a husband to kill his wife? Was this William Castles version of "shock and awe"?
The picture of Joan Crawford on the poster is the exact same expression she had when she discovered fine clothes on a lousey coat hanger.

<< Tender Comrade (1943) 11:15am ET
Lady welders pool their resources to share a house during World War II.
Cast: Ginger Rogers, Robert Ryan, Ruth Hussey, Patricia Collinge Dir: Edward Dmytryk BW-102 mins, TV-PG >>
I'm trying to absorb the thought of Ginger Rogers welding a battleship. If she was at today's point in time, I bet she would have a role in "Junkyard Wars".

Happy Labor Day to you too and to everyone else on the board. Relaxing and BBQing outside is exactly what I am going to do. An entire 3 days of perfect weather !

The Beatles on Blu-Ray

Thanks, that is it. I downloaded the lyrics and the first line of chorus is right on the money. I was right about the title but wrong about the artist. I just purchased a David Gates 45 record with it on side 1.
This is the 2nd hard to find song, oddly by the same artist but I knew the title "Audrey". The song itself a few years ago was hard to find but finally got it on cassette, "Anthology of Bread".
"Clouds" was released in 1973 - we were both off by a year. My goodness its been 36 years!! Time needs to put on the brakes a little. When I first heard "Clouds", I remembered the radio announcer said "coming up, Paul McCartney" - probually played him later. I just finished constructing a 3 tube TRF AM receiver and that's when I heard the song. Within the same time frame, I heard Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die"
This is the 3rd song I found with help from fellow board members. Not only has TCM become a place to get hard to find movies but also hard to find music. Who knew, lol.
