  1. Carrie's revenge at then end doesn't teach anyone a lesson if they are dead. The *perfect* revenge would be like the scene in "Stand by Me". Larda_s Hogan's revenge can't be topped.

Oh yes I know its only a campfire story but its a neat idea. Wil Wheaton should have wrote the script for "Carrie". lol.

Hogan lived to reap the satifaction but Carrie did not. Her fruitcake mom needed a good man in her life!

  2. Wondering if watching "Lilo and Stitch" counts?

There is a store in my town that has one display window deck out "ALL Elvis". Has a 6 foot statue of him along with 45 records hanging from the ceiling, photos, memorabilia, etc. It's a safe bet the owners will be glued to the set all day long!

Here is a photo of the Elvis statue, it is about 6 feet tall.

  3. NO WAY will I pay $70.00 to $85.00 for a movie today especially after its been rerun countless number of times, I don't care what extras are on it. Who's pushing it PT Barnum?

"OZtoberFEST", well that might cause confusion for some. I can just see some guys showing up not understanding the 1 letter difference and complain "I thought you sold beer galore during these events"? hic

Considering Kansas is in the middle of tornado alley, the people living there are already reminded enough of the movie every time a tornado hit. It be ironic if the Great Overland Station gets hit by an F5 twister. The outsiders visiting after recovering from the shock will be saying 'there's no place like home.

  4. If they are not causing problems on your computer, its best to leave them be. I always use the < Add / Remove Programs> in the Control Panel to uninstall programs. It sometimes tell you that it didn't remove everything and will have to be done manually, this is what I always do by going to the MS-DOS prompt C:>

This should only be done by people who has knowledge of the old MS-DOS command line routines and understand directories and subdirectories. That has become more tricky recently due to multi leveled subdirectories.

I have stopped altogether downloading screensavers due to spyware. Freeze.com is the worst.

I suggest you use a utility called AdAware SE and keep the definitions updated. That program found a lot of spyware in programs downloaded from these screensaver sites. I made it a rule of thumb to never use them regardless where its from. I rather be safe then sorry.

Since I always turn off my computer after use, I generally don't need to use screensavers and I keep a carefull eye on what little I download and keep looking at the status lights on my U.S. Robotics modem.

  5. Your DVD should be closed captioned. Turn that function on from your TV remote and see what is actually being said. I use that a LOT, even for singing. People might not say words clearly and some words sound alike.

I had a very similiar experience with the movie "Poor Little Rich Girl". When Shirley Temple was singing to her dolls at the beginning of the movie, I could have sworn she said "son a b__ch" OMG not her I thought. I listened to that several times and that is how it sounded. I back then had a TV set that didn't had the close caption function so I was in the dark.

When I finally got a set that had it, it was to my relief that she actually said "Springovich". That scene is when she picked up the 2nd doll and sung to it.

  6. Its not what you think. Its only preventive editing of certain words. The Code of Conduct rules prohibits religous or political discussions on the TCM website. I don't want to get into it but maybe some other member can explain it better then I. This way I won't offend anyone.

Since you are a new member here, also take note that this website has a built in self editing software that automaticly edits certain words. You will see this as a small string of astericks on prohibited words.

  7. CK, it just occured to me that TCM showed "Saving Private Ryan" very recently and it was also released in 1998, so what's the difference if they did showed the remade version of TA? (beside ones great and the other (censored)).

We (all TCM members) could get into a squabble by saying its OK for TCM to show some movies made in 1998 but not all (even if they stink!) Logicalaly, wouldn't this be setting a double standard?

PS I'm glad you like my sense of humor earlier - just couldn't resist.

  8. Les Paul who invented the electric guitar and multitrack recording died on August 13 due to complications from pneumonia.

Just imagine the impact the electric guitar had on the worlds music and try to think what would music be like today without it.

Another important invention is the multitrack recorder, not only its huge contribution to the music industry but its impact on Hollywood in its sound on films, the biggest innovation since Lee DeForest invented the sound camera. The Surround / Dolby we enjoy in theatres and in our homes is contributed to the multitrack recorder.

  9. Its a shame that CGI has put these gifted craftsmen out of work. I have heard that a few have been hired out to do model railraod work for "true scale" enthusiasts.

On a video I have "Great MTH Layouts" one guy had the ENTIRE Chicago railroad switching yard done in "O" guage. If one would to take a computer controlled camera and fly over the setup, it would be a close match to the real thing. All the switches, signal lights, sound effects it done to true scale. He will let you work his layout that is do the entire switching routine under one condition, you can not touch anything on the track. The logic is that in real life a monster hand don't come out of the sky and correct ones mistakes.

Some people have all the fun.

  10. Does anyone know what type of train did they used on the minature set? Was it specially made in a workshop or was it a "store bought" type like Lionel? If it was done in a workshop, it must have took a lot of time, effort and *expense.* What would have been the scale of the set?

Noticed that the car was only thrown aside instead of being completely demolished like you see in the news footage of people ignoring the signal lights.

The crash scene sort of reminds me of Gomez Addams doing a head on train wreck on "The Addams Family". Lol.

  11. Well your post proved one thing, Hollywood has hit rock bottom. Its enough to make an Indian turn over in his grave.

I think the next thread you start should be called "The Psychology of MGM"

Personaly I think they are 2 cards short of a full deck.

I like the South Park play on the theme better when the boys ask the guy what did you do to make the Indians buried on their sacred ground want to haunt us, he replied " oh I just dug them up, p__ed on them and reburied them upside down".

Yes she is frightening and your reply got me to thinking in what I thought would have been a modern update of "The Bad Seed", the movie "Orphan".

    *** SPOILER ALERT ***

Well I've been reading some of the internet blogs and Esther in "Orphan" is not what the commercials lead me to beleive - another bad seed but something else totally different. Well I'm glad I got the heads up and I am not going to watch such a letdown.

    http://www.knoxroad.com/2009/07/09/knowing-the-orphan-spoiler-is-more-fun-than-seeing-the-actual-movie/

Whats more frightening is that someone passed off the script for the movie.

My feeling is that the person who approved the script should be stoned!
