  1. Patrick Macnee? Patrick Stewart? Michael Caine? Richard Attenborough? I'm completely grasping at straws now...because NOBODY fits all these clues! This is ridiculous... We should have gotten it by now.....
  2. Now, I know Edmund Gwenn never played Hitler....
  3. That's too funny! Every year when Andrew shaves his beard and moustache in May I'm sure he can see my disappointment..... He looks so good with them. I tell him he doesn't have to shave, but it's a ritual with him, and his life revolves around ritual.... so I smile and wait till September for the beard to come back....
  4. > {quote:title=coopsgirl wrote:}{quote} > I think its unanimous; none of us want to be in that Capital One commercial where they ask whats in your wallet? I do have a funny story about a sixteen year old teenager I waited on at the bank one day. I was chatting with him, and he told me he wasn't into much of the trendy movies of the day, or the music either. He then took out his wallet and showed me the picture he carried - he had a picture of Charlie Parker, the great jazz musician, and a picture of Spencer Tracy! It just goes to show you, you never know about someone until you talk to them. Here I was, thinking this kid was into heavy metal or something....
  5. Hey, Bronxie O'Gill! You are going to look smashing in your new red holiday top and black jeans! I picture you being the life of the party.....the good kind.... not the lampshade on the head, dancing on a table kind....well, maybe a little table dancing..... I love those little wonton thingies..... Ro- You are very lucky indeed, to be married to Ronald Colman! Do you think he would be coerced into growing a pencil-thin moustache? No, wait.... you better not.... because that would just drive all the other ladies here too wild.... and you would have to get out your Peacemaker to get rid of them.... My hubby plays drums. I seem to have a thing for drummers. It isn't on purpose, I just seem to gravitate to guys who happen to be play them......
  6. Hey, Ro! My guy is on the long-haired side (not too long), but he always looks so clean.... I love that about him. He is from the more rock and roll side of what I like in a man. He is a sensitive (DON'T tell him I said that) sixties George Harrison/Cat Stevens type. He looks best with a beard, though he shaves it off every summer. In fact, He looks very much like a blond haired, blue eyed version of Cat Stevens....he's got a sort of crunchy nutty look to him - he likes to wear plaid lumberjack shirts and jeans.....Whew! What's happening to me? Talking about my own hubby got me all feverish.... how strange...! OK. He looks almost exactly like this: But with blond hair. I guess I am pretty lucky.... I have my sensitive, hesitant, early seventies type guy in real life, but I can think about rugged Tom Santschi sweeping me off my feet when I daydream.....
  7. Is there anything cuter than Gary with that doggie? Oh my gosh, I want to come home in the evening to find them sitting in my living room listening to the radio...... I know it's a little weird and rebellious, but for the thirteen years I worked at the bank I used to carry a picture of Pretty Boy Floyd in my wallet, along with a copy of Woody Guthrie's song about him: "Some will rob you with a six-gun, and some with a fountain pen." I wanted to make sure that I stayed on the side of regular folks.... I always liked the idea of "a sagebrush Robin Hood". Floyd was said to have robbed banks but then took mortgage papers out of the safe too and threw them away into the wind... he was also said to have been very generous, stopping to give money to widows and children....... I guess it's a good thing no one there ever looked in my wallet.....
  8. I just bought a hat like that grey one! Well... it's a little smaller.... I love the grey and white outfit. I want one just like it! I don't remember it from the movie, but I am more familiar with Leslie Howard's "Pygmalion" than this movie. Am I the only one who likes Eliza BEFORE her transformation better?
  9. > I _am_ Mark MacPherson! ROFLOL! I feel exactly the same way..... Why couldn't I have been born earlier in time? Or why can't men be more like this today?
  10. "Well, doctor, what's the matter with her? She just sits staring at the screen. She won't eat or sleep and she seems to be burning up." "It's called "Santschi Fever" and it only affects women who register on the TCM message boards, we don't know why.....There is no known cure."
  11. I just googled Thomas Santschi (that sounds like a euphemism doesn't it?) and then went to Images and there he was on Jam'd..... I was so thrilled to find him there...I could have given him a big hug, except of course...... he's only a picture.... sigh. Look at that rugged jaw, and those eyes........I'd like to muss up his hair and sit on his lap.... Oh. Excuse me......Sorry. I got carried away.....
  12. Thanks, FF! I am going to record it this time.....
  13. Ladies, may I advise some tea with honey and lemon? Or at least honey and milk..... My daughter and I have been sniffling around the house for weeks now, with allergies or colds and housebound germs - anyway, her pediatrician (he's BRILLIANT, but that's another story) recommended LOCAL honey for the sniffles. So we have been downing honey like it's going out of style. it is amazing how well it works! I never liked the taste of honey before but it really makes me feel healthy (possibly a placebo effect, but who cares?) and voila! no sniffles. I am using the creamed honey, since it is easier to spoon into a cup without making a mess.... I wish MY doctor was as smart as my daughter's..... Lovely, lovely screencap of Bull Stanley. That is as nice a Christmas present/get well card as I've seen in a long time. You always come on so nice, why don't you try posting another little present for us, Layne? I mean, _Frank_ ? Lookie what I found, curly hair and all (I still like him scruffy better, but the closeup makes me melt):
  14. I liked it mainly for MacLaglen's performance.... It picked up a bit towards the end. I wish it had been a little longer, as the kiss Victor received from the wooden Miss Collyer at the end seemed to open up lots of intriguing plot twists. Unfortunately, this movie was not the place to work those out....
  15. I was just looking at my computer and every day I have a quote that pops up automatically. Today's fis very nicely into this topic, so I thought I would post it: In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. Thomas Jefferson
  16. I'm just thinking out loud.... Sorry. I was trying to think of actors who played musicians. Adrian Brody is not English.......
  17. Nightmare Alley is AWESOME! I have only seen it once, but it was very memorable.....
  18. Geoffrey Rush is from Australia.....
  19. I am so glad people have mentioned Nobody's Fool. It's such a quiet performance in a little quiet movie..... but I love it.
  20. Great post Tiki! I didn't know much about Virginia's life, but I will always think of her up on her toes, spouting french to the "common folk" with a diamond lavalier around her neck.
